ABSTRACT: In modern protection system the key challenge is the trade-off between the security demands (no false tripping), the speed of operations and the dependability requirements. To meet this challenge properly, the application of a protective relay, using PI controller, PID controller and fuzzy logic controller in power system protection has been proposed in this thesis along with the simulated data. The examined technique based on PI controller, PID controller, fuzzy logic controller and value estimation to control the protection action of the protective relay was intended to improve the performance of a conventional protective relay control for human safety and system reliability with the use of a PI controller, PID controller and fuzzy logic controller. The difference between estimated and sampled values was used to form the rule base. Proposed relay architecture was used as a detector and was developed to predict faults and to protect particular sections of a designed prototype radial power system at an early stage. Performance analysis of the developed model is simulated using Simulink® and found satisfactory output.

Wi-Fi connects you to your favorite content and communications over your mobile phone, computer, media players and other devices - all without cumbersome cables. To protect Wi-Fi network you can install security safeguards like internet protocol security (IPSec), wired Equipment privacy (WEP) encryption standard, and the most used Wi-Fi protected access (WEP2).

ABSTRACT: The effect of Interline Power Flow Controller (IPFC) on damping low frequency oscillations has implied in some papers, but has not investigated in details. This paper investigates the damping control function of an Interline Power Flow Controller installed in a power system. For this purpose, Single Machine-Infinite Bus model integrated with IPFC is used, and the linearized model is established. Using this model, Phillips- Heffron model of system for steady state digital simulations is derived. The common DC link in the IPFC configuration enables each inverter to transfer real power to another, so regulation of DC link voltage is an important issue in overall performance of the system. In this paper, a new method based on Genetic Algorithm (GA) is presented to regulate DC link voltage. In this method, GA and system objective function are adopted to choose best PI parameters for the linear controller of DC link of IPFC In this paper, numerical results with Matlab Simulink toolbox, which show the significant effect of IPFC on damping inter-area oscillations, are represented.

ABSTRACT: Voltage stability analysis in an existing long transmission line, plays a essential role in power system area. This paper employs the shunt connected compensation (SVC) based FACTS device for the control of voltage ,active power, reactive power and power damping oscillations in long distance transmission line. Here also deals with determination of the optimal location of shunt flexible a.c. Transmission system (FACTS) devices for a long transmission line for voltage and power transfer improvement. The results also show that optimal location depends upon voltage magnitude and the line loading and system initial operating conditions. In this paper the two machine 4-bus test system is simulated using MATLAB Simulink environment.

ABSTRACT: A rail transportation systems project has three aspects to it, namely, rolling stock (vehicle), signaling and the power supply. It’s a complex system of moving sources of electromagnetic disturbance. The electrical circuits from each of the sub system interact and give rise to a phenomenon called electromagnetic interference (EMI). This is an inevitable process, but if a control plan is not in place for this, this could severely hamper the working of the rail system. This paper discusses about the possible causes for EMI in a rolling stock, measures that can be implemented to reduce it and lastly how it impacts the signaling system.

This paper is only focusing on Distribution Static Compensator (D-STATCOM) and Dynamic Voltage Restorer (DVR) and addressing the different controlling techniques available for the proper controlling of both devices. The paper provides the detail description and configuration of the recently introduced controlling methods for both the devices with their advantages, limitations applicable conditions.

ABSTRACT: A predictive boost converter topology with Power Factor Correction (PFC) is presented in this paper that utilizes zero voltage switching to achieve the desired objective. The duty cycle required to achieve unity power factor in one line period integrating input current shaper feature with the AC-DC converter. Simple DC link voltage feedback scheme applied in conjunction with two active clamp switches, where a resonant voltage rectifier helps the output diode to achieve zero current switch operation. The DC link capacitor voltage can be is reduced providing reduced Voltage stress of switching devices. The performance of proposed converter is evaluated for a 160W (48V/3.5A) load and the proposed converter complies with International Electro technical Commission IEC (1000-3-2).

ABSTRACT: This paper presents a micro controller based control of multilevel inverter for single phase Induction motor. Pulse Width Modulation (PWM) techniques; introduced three decades ago, are the most used methods to control the voltage and frequency supplied to electrical AC machines. Multi level inverter has gained attention in recent years due to its high power capability associated with lower output harmonics. Several multilevel topologies have been reported in the literature and this paper focuses on cascaded Hbridge multilevel inverter built to implement the proposed conduction table with five voltage levels. Gating signals a r e g e n e r a t e d u s i n g P IC microcontroller. The performance of the inverter has been analyzed and compared with the result obtained from theory. A scheme based on 5-level PWM inverter, which control a high performance 8-bit standard microcontroller with gate driver circuit and additional hardware is used, which allows a flexible and economical solution. The output voltage can be varied in a large range and with a good resolution. Experimental data obtained from an induction motor drive will be presented.

ABSTRACT: This paper presents an evaluation of Markov models used to obtain unit reliability and availability the operational data of Pathri and Chilla power stations (India) for period 2007 - 2012. The most important reliability indices are found namely failure rate (λ), repair rate (μ), MTTR, MTBF, MTTF Through data collection and analysis. The data of each year and for each unit is time scheduled. After tabulating all the data, we classified for each unit the different type of failure taking into account the various sub units and systems. According to the classification we defined Markov states. Failure rate repair rate of all state are found from the classified data. The determination of availability and reliability from their definition is completed.

ABSTRACT: This article introduces a new image Enhancement approach suitable for digital cameras. High contrast images are common in the scenes with dark shadows and bright light sources. It is difficult to show the details in both dark and light areas simultaneous on most display devices. For solving this problem, there are many methods of image enhancement proposed to improve the quality of the images. However, most of them often get poor results if the images are high contrast and have wide dynamic range. This method for enhancing the high- contrast digital camera images, which enhances the global brightness and contrast of images while preserving details. It is based on a two-scale decomposition of the image into a base layer, encoding large-scale variations, and a detail layer. The base layer is obtained using an edge preserving filter that is a weighted average of the local neighborhood samples, where the weights are computed based on temporal and radiometric distances between the center sample and the neighboring samples. Only the base layer image is enhanced automatically by using histogram equalization method, thereby preserving detail. The experimental results show the proposed method provides a significant enhancement for the highcontrast images and requires no parameter setting. And also in this work processing cost reduction when the new approach is followed.

ABSTRACT: In this thesis a technique for measuring and controlling line currents of three phase AC motors using information from a single current sensor resistor mounted in the DC-link of an inverter is presented. The principal motivation is to reduce the sensor cost, weight, and volume and also to improve the reliability of a drive system.However the basic dc link single current sensor technique poses a limitation because the duration of the active voltage vectors must be long enough to measure the dc link current reliably. To overcome this problem a new algorithm called the measurement vector insertion method is presented along with basic single current sensor technique that overcomes this problem using active voltage vectors that are applied for brief measurement intervals only when needed during each cycle of fundamental frequency.
