This work tries to demonstrate the resauras used by José Saramago to make A jangada de pedra a thesis romance. Following the historical speech of the book, we find the narrative speech, being its opposite also proved. The connections between the speeches are done with great expressivity. The imaginary narrative is presented all the time: unusual facts happens, the peninsula is divided from the rest of Europe, and the controversy that is caused serves as something to confirm this “transiberista” thesis.

This paper tries to exercise a kind of analysis in which the text may instigate in the reader his capacity to produce new texts as supplements. From Marcel Proust’s “À la recherche du temps perdu”, it’s installed a confrontation between various readings of this work to, at the end, understand the interpretation itself as a meeting with the otherness of the text, of the author and of the reader.

Ce travail a pour but de présenter quelques observations concernant l’applicabilité du modèle de traduction d’Heloisa Gonçalves Barbosa. Cette réflexion s’inscrit dans le cadre d’une recherche réalisée pour l’élaboration d’une dissertation de Maîtrise. Nous avons cherché à identifier les procédures employées par le traducteur du roman Essa Terra, Jacques Thiériot, concernant le sens et le registre de langue des termes et expressions populaires de ce roman. Notre recherche nous a permis d’observer que ce modèle présente des techniques efficaces, mais qu’il est limité sous plusieurs aspects.

A reflection concerning the effect of two terrible world wars and the great economic depression of the 1930’s on American life during the second half of the 20th cetury. This effect is clearly refected in the literature of the period, as one might well expect. But, in a very special way, the immense psychological and moral damage wreaked upon the population of the United States by these events can be found in the writings of three American women: Flannery O’Connor, who calls the attention of the readers of her fiction to the need for a Christian perception of human life; Carson McCullers, whose fictional characters suffer the psychological and spiritual isolation experenced by the majority of human beings, even in the midst of a multitude, and Toni Morrison, who writes about the eternal problem of racism in the United States and the negative effects of a dominant white culture on the black population of America.

The purpose of this chapter is to investigate the effects of writing the first name on the spelling of preconsonantal nasals. 25 children from 1st and 2nd grades were divided into two groups and interviewed. In one group the children had a preconsonantal nasal in their first name. In the other group they didn’t. The results suggest that the ones with preconsonantal nasal take advantage from the graphic stability of their own names to develop their conceptualizations of the spelling of nasal sounds. The ones who don’t have the nasal in their first name use the information taken from some memorized words with nasal to make distinctions between minimal pairs. This reveals that distinctive nasal is required before non distinctive nasal.

Segundo a ordem Sujeito-Verbo-Objeto (SVO) na língua padrão do Português do Brasil - PB, a concordância verbal é estabelecida entre o sujeito e o verbo. Em nosso estudo sobre o fenômeno da concordância verbal em narrativas infantis, nós encontramos evidências de que, nesse caso, nós temos um fenômeno variável, como foi mostrado em trabalhos anteriores sobre o português falado no Brasil (Naro, 1981; Scherre & Naro, 1991; Scherre & Naro, 1993; Naro & Scherre, 1996; e outros). Para essa análise, nós distinguimos três casos para mostrar o uso da concordância sujeito-verbo: a) o tipo de sujeito afetando o uso da concordância verbal; b) a inversão verbo-sujeito como um fator que tem influência na falta de concordância; c) a distância e a posição do sujeito com relação ao verbo. A partir dos resultados obtidos, procuramos mostrar que a produção das crianças na escrita reflete o caráter variável da regra de concordância verbal no PB.
