The present study examined the relationship between rumination patterns, death anxiety, and coping strategies among university students. Data of N=304 students (male n = 163 and female n= 141) was taken from different departments of Quaid-i-Azam University, Islamabad, Pakistan. Rumination was measured by using Event Related Rumination Inventory (ERRI). Brief Cope Scale was used to assess the coping strategies and Death anxiety was measured by using Templer’s Death Anxiety Scale - Extended (DAS-E). Results showed that death anxiety was positively associated with intrusive and deliberate rumination. Moreover, death anxiety was positively associated with self-distraction coping, denial coping, instrumental support, emotional support, behavior disengagement, religion, and self-blame coping, whereas, it was negatively associated with active coping and acceptance coping. In addition, both intrusive and deliberate rumination were positively associated with the self-distraction, active coping, denial coping, instrumental support, emotional support, behavior disengagement, venting, positive reframing, planning, humor, acceptance, religious coping, whereas, self-blame coping was positively associated with intrusive rumination only not with the deliberate rumination. In addition, age was positively associated with deliberate rumination, problems solving coping. Female students scored significantly high on death anxiety, whereas, male students significantly scored high on deliberate rumination. Furthermore, male students scored significantly high on substance abuse coping and avoidance copings strategies whereas, female students scored significantly high on religious coping strategies. Utilization of the convenient sampling methodology and use of self-report measures were the main limitations of this study.

The present paper aimed to investigate the mediating role of executive functioning in the relationship between Candy Crush addiction and the academic performance of younger adults. The sample comprised of N = 202 younger adults from different universities of Lahore, Pakistan. The age range of the sample was between 18-23 years (M =19.75, SD = 1.51). The Game Addiction Scale (GASA) and the Executive Functioning Questionnaire were administered to all the participants. Findings showed that the variables of gender (male), nuclear family system and less involvement in outdoor activities were supportive of higher scores on Candy Crush addiction. When executive functioning was controlled, the effect from Candy Crush addiction on Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) was significant. When Candy Crush addiction was controlled only the retroactive inhibition, working memory, flexibility, planning and time management were found to significantly correlate with CGPA. Thus, the results showed partial meditational relationship among the study variables. The results have important implications for parents and educational institutes in terms of devising strategies to reduce the addiction to Candy Crush.

The present study aimed at measuring the effectiveness of parental counseling on parent child-relational problems. This study included (N =31) parents including mothers (n = 20) and fathers (n = 11) from different cities of Punjab, Pakistan. The age of parents ranged between 31-52 years (M = 38.63, SD = 12.36). In a quasi-experimental design study; a pre-post assessment of parent-child relational problems was done by using 78-items Urdu version of Parent Child Relationship Inventory (PCRI). An indigenously developed 6 sessions’ Parental Counseling Program was implemented to improve parent-child relational problems. Results of the paired sample t-test revealed significant differences in pre-post assessment. Parents in post-test significantly exhibited higher scores on support (r = 2.73), satisfaction (r = 1.59), Involvement (r = .91), communication (r = 2.43), limit setting (r = 1.91), autonomy (r = 2.33) and role orientation (r = 3.36) as compared to the pre-test results. In conclusion, parental counseling (and this ingeniously developed program) can play a significant role in improving parent-child relationships. The current study provides a counseling program for educational and school counselors, as a treatment process to improve parent-child relationship and consequently decrease the negative effects of parent-child relationship problems on children.
