he present prospective study was aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of topical application of bee honey on wound healing with hyper granulation tissue of infected split skin graft. Methods: A 27 years old female was admitted to Khartoum North Teaching Hospital plastic surgery unit with painful swelling of the right buttock with localized heat, which was proved as a pyogenic abscess. Swabs were taken from the wound for isolation, identification and viable bacterial count. The abscess was drained under general anesthesia and dressed with saline and MEBO ointment (combination of honey and herbs). Skin graft was performed. After 2 weeks of MEBO dressing, the wound was infected and hyper granulation tissue was observed. Daily application of honey was used instead of MEBO ointment. Results: Isolated organism was identified as Staphylococcus aureus. In vitro antibacterial test of honey against the isolated organism exhibited strong antibacterial activity. After one week of honey dressing, bacterial growth was inhibited and finally the wound was free from S. aureus. After 2 weeks of honey dressing, wound healing with reduced, hyper-granulation tissue was found. Conclusion: Topical application of honey dressing on wound with hyper granulation tissue for 3 weeks resulted in clean sterile wound with healthy granulation tissue and prompt graft was observed. Complete wound healing was achieved and hyper granulation tissue was reduced without surgical interference.

In the current investigation, phytochemical analysis, antioxidant, anti-ulcer and in vitro anthelmintic studies of Tabernaemontana dichotoma Methanol Extract (TCME) and Aqueous Extract (TCAE) from seeds were evaluated. Phytochemical analysis confirmed the occurrence of various secondary metabolites. Biological evaluation showed a dose dependent response of different extracts of T. dichotoma seeds. Both the extracts showed antioxidant potential. TCME displayed higher degree of H+ K+ ATPase on par with omeprazole, thus confirming the anti-ulcer potential of the plant. TCME also exhibited better wormicidal activity compared to the other extract in both paralysis of earthworms (Pheretima posthuma), and confirming its role as anthelmentic medicine. The study confirms the anti-ulcer and anthelmentic properties of T. dichotoma seed extracts, with TCME showing higher efficacy.

Cissus quadrangularis L. is a well-known plant used in Ayurveda. It is also called Asthisamharaka. The etymology of its name indicates its use in the healing of the fractured bone. It is a widely growing plant belonging to the family of vitaceae. C. quadrangularis (Family: Vitaceae) is commonly distributed throughout the hotter parts of India and Sri Lanka. C. quadrangularis is mentioned in classical literature like Bhava Prakash and Chakra Dutta. The present study design to compare three different varieties of C. quadrangularis which includes the species of quadrangular, round and flat types are used to study DNA barcoding marker and phylogenetic analysis. Whole-genome was isolated from the stem parts of three varieties of C. quadrangularis; quadrangular, round and flat. The PCR amplification of DNA barcoding markers (rbcl, mat k and ITS) was analyzed by DNA electrophoresis. The DNA barcoding markers and next-generation sequencing are able to identify the intraspecies genetic variations among these closely related plant varieties of C. quadrangularis of quadrangular, round and flat.

Studies on plant and food phytochemistry and its potential benefits to human health are becoming the focus of the research community. Researchers are turning to alternatives drugs in treating human diseases using natural products from plants and foods. Polyphenols are one of the largest groups in the plant family and consist of many subgroups. One of them is catechin, which is generally acknowledged to be part of a compound in tea. Over the years, investigations have shown that catechin has anti-oxidant, anti-inflammatory and antibacterial properties. In dentistry, documented evidence have shown the use of catechin in treatment of dental caries, periodontal disease, pulp pathology, and oral cancer. Other crucial areas of research include advancements in dental material incorporated with catechin. This review article explores the current studies on the potential use of catechin in dentistry.

In the present investigation, we have carried out the isolation of fungal endophytes from Centella asiatica Linn leaves followed by fermentation and extraction of fungal endophytes with non-polar solvents such as chloroform, ethyl acetate and n-butanol. Preliminary phytochemical investigation of endophytic crude fractions of leaves were also determined to detect the presence of primary and secondary metabolites followed by invitro free radical scavenging activity by reducing power, DPPH and hydroxyl radical assay. The chloroform fungal endophytic fractions were subjected to column chromatography by gradient elution technique for isolation of possible secondary metabolite. Reducing power of endophytic extracts of C. asiatica Leaf (CAL-1) (50-450 μg/ml) increased with increase in concentration. Reaction with DPPH radicals of CAL-1 showed good scavenging activity. The IC₅₀ values for Ascorbic acid, chloroform extract, ethyl acetate extract and n-butanol extract were found to be 30.33 μg/ml, 66.58 μg/ml, 79.33 μg/ml and 96.39 μg/ml respectively. In hydroxyl radical assay, The IC₅₀ values for mannitol, chloroform extract, ethyl acetate extract and n-butanol extract were found to be 121.06 μg/ml, 141.21 μg/ml, 181.80 μg/ml and 189.90 μg/ml respectively. The endophytic crude fractions of ethyl acetate exhibited potent antioxidant activity as compared to other fractions. Hence, ethyl acetate fungal endophytic fractions of Centella asiatica Linn leaves can be employed as a potential antioxidant in the prevention of oxidative stress caused by the free radicals.

Ocimum basilicum L. (Lamiaceae) commonly known as basil possesses various medicinal activities to treat headache, diarrhoea, kidney malfunctions, diabeties, cancer and several pharmacological activities. These are mainly due to the various chemically diversified constituents present in it. In order to evaluate the chemical composition of basil leaves, the dried leaves were extracted with petroleum ether, chloroform, ethyl acetate, methanol and water by Soxhlet’s extraction. The extracts were screened for the qualitative determination by preliminary phytochemical screening. Quantitative determination was also performed for the total alkaloids, flavonoids, phenols, saponins and tannins. Amongst the extracts, methanol (MeOH) was identified to contain various classes of secondary metabolites, so GCMS analysis was performed on the MeOH extract. The results revealed that chemical constituents claimed for various biological activities were present.
