This study was designed to evaluate the average force under each foot and variation in location of center of plantar pressure during static standing, in amputees by landmines and non-amputees subjects. Fifteen subjects were evaluated (ten non-amputees, five men and five women, and five amputees, all men, age range 20-40 years), they are functional. Five measurements were performed for each subject, following the protocol established for the measurement. The template system Pedar R was used. The statistical analysis used was ANOVA, to confirm that the data obtained in the measurements are valid. It was confirmed that the location of the COP on each foot is affected by the use of dentures, it is required to confirm whether the alignment of the prosthesis influences COP, is left for further study.

This paper shows the advantages, simulation and implementation algorithm developed in an incremental conductance lowend DSP -digital signal processing- Texas Instrument TMS320F28069 R, in order to find and extract maximum power, performing tests on a resistive load.

There are various forms of environmental pollution, one of which is caused by oily mixtures which are particularly discharged into water sources from economic activities such as washing vehicles, service stations, and others. This article research shows a way to mitigate these polluting effects through the design and construction of an automated equipment that performs the separation of a mixture of water-oil. The separation of the oil mixture is carried out in a corrugated plate interceptor (CPI), and accompanied by a Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) S7 1200, through which the user is allowed to perform the process efficiently, thanks to high percentage of separation has been achieved with respect to the initial mixture. Then, was divided into three methodological steps , first the CPI separator built, setting turn the variables of interest, second was designed and implemented the Automation and third results were validated by testing. Three variables were defined; level, the most important in the system, also temperature and flow, for each of them has been implemented appropriate instrumentation for data collection subsequently entering the PLC. The main result is that the process is efficient as it manages to recover more than 90% of the water present in the initial oily fluid, this evidenced by the implemented instrumentation , allowing reuse and subsequent saving precious liquid.

In this paper, we propose an ANFIS model based that verify their effectiveness compared to real data to determine the coffee berry borer proliferation risk in a colombian context, verifying its effectiveness compared to real data collected by the ICA in a study of the Integrated Management of Broca. As an initial step, four input variables are determined and a fuzzy model (made in another job), including factors were used: temperature, altitude, age and quality of the crop harvesting. A set of 144 rules and 20 times of training, the results were satisfactory and close to the actual infestation level, fulfilling the target of generating information regarding this problem by using engineering techniques.

The mechanical vibration analysis has great importance in the condition based maintenance; in this sense, the bearings are elements that affect more stops rotating machinery. Therefore, this paper describes the hardware and software architecture of a vibration analyzer developed in LabVIEW R oriented to study bearings extracting its parameters or descriptors through the power spectral density (PSD) and the RMS and DC signal values in time. Shows the advantages of working with such solutions: cost and the possibility of increasing benefits as needed.

This work is motivated by the monitoring function used in cognitive radio networks. To this end, two autonomous devices for searching electromagnetic signals were designed and implemented. One of them is fixed, while the other one performs the signal search to optimize the antenna pointing. The device that performs the search transmits a signal which must be returned by the other device at each position to evaluate the power. Once the search is completed, it is decided which position has the highest received signal power and so, the transmission between two users is enabled. This work also shows the radiation patterns at different distances and, the analysis to estimate the number of samples of the acquired power in a particular position. In addition, a comparison is realized of the acquired power at different positions, optimizing the search using heuristic methods. One advantage of the proposed system is its autonomy, since subsystems for its control are not required and it can operate with either, batteries or a connection to the electric power line. The proposed system optimizes the pointing between devices and therefore, the link quality and the received power are improved.

Everyday in network management, it is complex the process to correlate events in different dimensions: legal violation, intrusions, monitoring failures, violation to security policies or breach of standards; to which face professionals, teaching and students in this area in Colombia. This article presents the technological aspects for the design and development of a distributed system for the computational anomalies detection that was termed “Asturiux”, which arises as a product from a research project in the teleinformatics area. To addressing this problematic it use the network security administration, and anomalies detection. The system was fully developed with free software, in which were integrated different technologies for the communication, authentication, persistence, computational intelligence and remote alerts. The verification instruments and the realized tests, reflect a high level of system efficiency, and acceptation from the actors involved

The LEGO Mindstorms NXT, are being used today in graduate and undergraduate courses especially on issues related to robotics and control, but in other engineering issues, such as data acquisition and signal filtering can be easily used to strengthen the understanding of those concepts in the labs . These practices require physical educational tools should be inexpensive, easy to use and multi -purpose application form that encourages student learning. In the present study we use only LEGO Mindstorms NXT (Ball & Beam) as a training platform, but not imitating the same commercial kits approach because it presents a typical problem of ball and beam control. The prototype was built and instrumented with sensors and actuators LEGO standard for subsequent modeling, identification and simulation using the Matlab R software. Three controllers were designed, the first is a cascade control and the other two are state space observer’s control (feedback: proportional and integral). Once simulated controllers are implemented in software using BricxCC prototype, where the results were satisfactory, showing the balance of the ball to the three controllers, each different features presented in steady state and a settling time that varies between 1.5 and 3 seconds.

In the current questions about ¿ What are the purposes of science education?, teaching of science and technology must always seek to answer accurately considering the social issues involved in the scientific-technological complex. As such, this article is part of the background of the research project in the Inter advance Doctorate in Education from the University Francisco Jos´e de Caldas (DIE-UD), space training Education and Pedagogy of the thesis : Angelus novus: analysis of the vision of the academicians on progress and techno-science from critical theories. It then aims to develop key aspects of the background to the vision of teachers of science and technology; exhibit some perception studies of science and technology; make a brief tour of the visions that arise about the nature of technological activity; and finally present an approach to the third culture that seeks to bring together scientists and humanists towards a more comprehensive understanding of developments in science and technology today.

This article presents a method that provides a simple way to find the constant coefficients required in the solution of a differential equation with Cauchy-Euler structure. Although this method is not fundamental in the solution of a differential equation of this type, it does propose an innovative and practical vision of differential equations of higher order with Cauchy structure in order to find the constant coefficients. Firstly, the article offers an introduction to differential equations and their usefulness (e.g. solid mechanics, buckling of columns); then, the structure of a Cauchy-Euler equation is presented followed by the proposed method, including mathematical proof, which guarantees the reliability of the method. The present paper deals with the subjective evaluation of audio coding technologies using the “Similarity Rating” psychometric method. Compressed audio excerpts are presented to a group of experienced listeners by pairs of stimuli. Each pair represents a different type of distortion, with compression included. These types of distortion correspond to three psychoacoustic attributes, sharpness, roughness, and fluctuation strength. Listener’s task is to evaluate the degree of similarity between the pairs. The final output is the localization of each measured codec in this psychoacoustic space. The immune system is responsible for the body defense against strange organisms. This type of control is performed by molecules and cells in an organized way. The proposed model consists in a system of ordinary deferential equations intended to resemble the interaction between HIV and the immune response when considering cytotoxic cells. Standard local stability analysis at the virus free equilibrium is carried out to determine the theoretical conditions that avoid infection. Nowadays, human disabilities are very common in all places around the world. However, when one person has a disability affecting one of the senses (e.g., sight, hearing), that person usually increases his/her capabilities with other senses. For instance, people with sight-associated disability normally increase their acuteness in senses like hearing and smell. This paper discusses the development process involved in making a user interface translate G-Code (ISO6983) using Microsoft Visual Basic 2010 together with communication protocol OPC. This interface was developed in three modules, the first one verifies syntax and lexicon, the second is a command converter for a Programmable Logic Controller Allen Bradley L63 using a SERCOS interface card and servo drive ULTRA 3000, and the last one executes motion control instructions. The interface is used for a profile milling process, on an XY plane and using G00, G01, G02 and G03 codes generated in a Fanuc postprocessor 3XMILL. The interface shows errors detected in the verification module according to the parameters established and identifies the corresponding line; it also monitors the XY position in real time, The interface allows line-by-line execution or automatic mode. The interface does not require information for cutting speed, tool advance speed, and spindle speed or tool compensation from the NC program. This article gathers relevant information that sheds light into the basic principles that motivated the study of the so called Next Generation Networks (NGN). The concepts presented herein include the most recent studies and standards that have been proposed for a suitable operation of NGN. Additionally, trends for future studies are suggested according to the main challenges of NGN. Tree-related power outages represent significant costs and failure rates in power supply. The existence of trees implies that the solution to this problem should focus on optimizing pruning cycles. This optimization is of great importance because of the costs associated to such maintenance. This paper is intended to propose a methodology for the maintenance of trees based on data analysis. Starting from the information captured in the field, we use techniques and models based on fuzzy logic and genetic algorithms, which keeps maintenance tasks on the optimal time and place. The strategy is aimed at two key aspects: first, the history of failures caused by trees on medium-voltage power supplies, this information is used to calculate quality indicators (energy not supplied [ENS] and number of users affected [NU]*) only regarding to tree-associated failure. We use a fuzzy logic based system to ponder and find the critical circuits on which forest maintenance should be performed. Second, we construct an objective function based on treenetwork distance and growth patterns of trees per species in order to simulate forest maintenance. To this end, a genetic algorithm is used to determine the optimum pruning cycle of a given power supply. This article presents an exercise in political science simulation applied via artificial neural networks software called Easy NN-plus 15.0, with reference to possible political scenarios that can emerge once conclude the dialogue between the guerrillas of the armed revolutionary forces of Colombia (FARC-EP) and Juan Manuel Santos’s administration, whose aims to solve through negotiated via the internal armed conflict that is afflicting Colombia more than half a century ago. The political scenarios referred to as input layer for the Perceptron were: democratic stability, civil war, coup d’État, revolution, political reform and authoritarian modernization; the output layers were: democratic openness and the continuation of the conflict; while the interlayer was formed with the complex interrelationship of the six entry scenarios. This paper presents the design and implementation of a web platform for student tracking and notification using SMS and email (at a school called Instituto San Francisco (Bogotá,Colombia). Firstly, the document addresses the needs of the school, which represent the main concern for this academic web platform. Subsequently, this paper shows the analysis of technologies and describes the design of the platform based on the requirements of the institution. Additionally, the web platform performance analysis and testing results are included.
