The record of Saprinus optabilis Marseul, 1855 found on the Kinmen Islands is confirmed. The author also clarifies a case of misidentification, where specimens previously identified as S. optabilis are in fact S. splendens (Paykfull, 1811). Color variation in S. optabilis is also discussed. The key to the Taiwanese species of Saprinus is updated.
