Mortonagrion hirosei Asahina, 1972, common name ‘Four-spot Midget’, is the one of only a few East Asain odonates on the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) Red List. Our study provides photographic evidence of M. hirosei in Macao, and we note its distribution within this territory.

Since its original description in 1943, Hesperosoma (Hemihesperosoma) miwai (Bernhauer, 1943) has been redescribed by multiple authors (Hayashi, 1993a; Schillhammer, 2015), albeit without having seen the type specimen. In our study, the holotype specimen of Amichrotus miwai Bernhauer, 1943 was examined, and it was concluded that all subsequent redescriptions of this species are in line with its type specimen. We also provide additional distribution data for H. (Hem.) miwai, confirming that this species is endemic and widespread throughout the island of Taiwan. In addition, a possible phytophagous behavior was discovered during field observations. The plant-associated behavior of several Staphylininae species is also discussed within our study.

Agriocnemis pygmaea Rambur, 1842 is the smallest species of Odonata in Macao. There are no further records of this species in Macao after 1993. The present study provides an account of the rediscovery of this species after 27 years, and discusses their literature records, distribution and seasonal activity in Macao.

While heterosexual mismounting between heterospecific Mantodea is occasionally observed in the wild, it does not appear to be a common occurrence, and likely results from misidentifications of pheromone and/or visual cues by mantises. However, accounts of homosexual mismounting between heterospecific male mantises are extremely rare in the literature. The present study provides the first account (to our knowledge) of homosexual mismounting by a male Acromantis japonica Westwood, 1889 on a male Statilia nemoralis Saussure, 1870. This is also as the first formal record of mismounting between Taiwanese mantises in the wild. The possible causes of this rarely observed phenomenon are also discussed.
