Given the day-to-day accumulation of sawdust, a byproduct of the milling process of the Pinus caribaea species in the Wood industry of Refocosta, a composting process was tested in three treatments with different nitrogen sources (urea, industrial palm oil sludge, cattle dung) and it was compared with composted pine bark and sawdust exposed to the weather. To assess possible inhibition of the substrates, the fresh biomass and germination of Zea maize and Acacia mangium was measured. Seedlings of Pinus caribaea, eucalyptus Pellita and Acacia Mangium were transplanted, and two months later the stem length, strength and survival were assessed. There were differences between maize and Acacia mangium and a lower germination and biomass in the substrates, sawdust and bark exposed to the weather and without composting were observed. The vigor and stem length were significantly better in composted bark, substrate which is currently used in the vivarium of Refocosta to produce seedlings; the sawdust-based substrates showed marked deficits (red colors, necrosis and stunting).

This article analyzes the presence and expression of molecules, called growth factors that act to control follicular dynamics in early stages; It also describes the nature and mechanism of action of the major growth factors involved in the activation of the paramount follicles in cattle. This is to show the importance of these molecules in developing follicle and oocyte quality, which can become fertilized on the way to increase the reproductive potential of domestic animals.

In Colombia, despite the wide biodiversity, efforts to find the products that may be involved in bio-activities have been inadequate and communities have not been involved with this proposal for economic and social development. To contribute to the development of these initiatives, an investigation over three groupsbelonging to the Mashiramo Corporation (Pitalito’s municipalities of San Agustin and Acevedo) was carried out since February to September 2010, in seeking of biodiversity products with commercial potential in the south area of Huila, using the methodology of Market Analysis and Development (MA & D). In phase 1, 17 products were selected and classified into 4 groups: forest products and byproducts (species of orchids, native flowers, forest species and seeds), Zoo-breeding (lepidopteron fauna, wild and hydro biological resources), native foods (two legume species) and products and services (ecotourism, environmental services and sale of handicrafts). In phase 2 (identification of products, markets and ways of marketing) 5 products were analized: ecotourism, incipient handicrafts, black fish farming (Astroblepus chapmani), a nursery of native forest species and Guatin Zoo-breeding (Dasyprocta punctata). In the third phase, the plan was formulated for ecotourism business with emphasis on bird watching. It was concluded that methodological appropriation is needed by the beneficiary community to ensure the development of activities to learn to make decisions based on market data and not for creating false expectations that generate negative experiences in communities.

A study of the status of minor peasant in the municipality of Tuta in Boyaca who are engaged in activities with adults accompanying agricultural production was carried out, having as a parameter the general outlines which establish the new concepts developed by the Law of childhood and adolescence, through the application of an statistical instrument that allowed to corroborate the partial existence of abnormal conditions for some minor peasants.

An analysis was made on the role of science and technology in relation to development issues, advocating the need for scientific and technological work to be justified in its ability to contribute to the welfare of rural communities and marginal urban areas. The need to redefine the concepts of science, technology and research in the context of community development was found as well as the urgency of great changes in the educational system, for which the approaches to education for marginalized sectors of Colombian society were referenced, approaches the Foundation for the Application and Teaching of Science (FUNDAEC) has been developing during more than 35 years of experience.

A quality assessment of the arracachia flour grown in the village of Anaime (Cajamarca, Tolima) was made by the e'ective method of drying by conduction. Samples of the existing varieties in Anaime were taken, in order to determine which variety has the best quality of flour after drying by conduction from the physicochemical and bromatological analysis. Out of the three varieties found in order of importance, the best variety was “paliverde” followed by “common” and #nally “cartagenera”. With the drying process by conduction high degrees of quality can be achieved with a high quality standard and nutritional value.

Reforestation of native species is a priority of our ecosystems intervened or severely affected. W. tomentosa is a dominant plant in the regional climax and very common in the mountainous forests of the northern Andes. In Colombia it is mainly found in the eastern cordillera. It is considered one of the main pre-climaxed slopes and hence its pioneering behavior as a competitor, that’s why ecological studies are needed, to know their propagation, physiology, among others. *e establishment of W. tomentosa is conducive to the development of other species of moorland and hillside locations.

In the rural municipality of Paipa, Boyaca many families rely on cattle breeding to obtain from this activity, su'cient income and resources to meet their basic needs, however little is known about the true role of this species in the nourishment safety of rural families in the municipality of Paipa in Boyacá, for that reason, this study aimed to analyze the importance of general breeding cattle in the nourishment safety of thirty peasant families in the municipality of Paipa, Boyacá and get to know the social and cultural roles that are generated by this livestock activity. The obtained result was that the cattle are raised as a second choice in the pursuit of economic resources, after the birds. In cattle production an average of "ve animals per farm are raised, the widely used breeds are the Normando, Holstein and crosses between them; milk production dominates with an average yield of 150 liters/week per family; income and costs production depend on the number of cattle raised, the gained income is used to purchase food for home, but savings are not encouraged; the consumption of dairy products is very low and beef cattle is not consumed within the household; animals management is in charge of all family members (both genders). In general, cattle farming make interesting economic contributions to the countryside families, but these revenues are used to purchase food of high nutritional value, also affecting the nourishment safety of the studied families.
