If fear can make a travesty of our best intentions by playing with the reason to discern good from evil, then fearlessness can be the deciding factor between emerging unscathed from life’s vicissitudes or sink in its scum. It’s this freedom (from fear), or rather its lack, that Mauriac builds in his tale of the trio: Maria Cross, Raymond Courreges, and Paul Courreges, who move in and out of the scenes of Le Desert de l’Amour (The Desert of Love) as the narrator relates their stories while mapping the characters in the novel to the panoply of Bible’s character types. This essay is a close look at the Bible’s depiction of the righteous (a conscious man) and an attempt at drawing the human consciousness curve with the objective to understand Good and why Evil is what it is and how they emerge in their many colours in The Desert of Love.

This study is conducted with the objective of finding out in detail the attitude of D.H. Lawrence towards technology and industrialization in relation to humans and human behavior and perceptions. The topic of this study is Dehumanization and Mechanization of The Working Class in Lawrence’s ‘Women in Love’. The primary intention of this study is to elaborate how the English working class in the mid-19th century was dehumanized as presented by Lawrence in Women in Love and his resistance towards mechanization of humans. During the mid-19th century industrial revolution led to dehumanization of the working class of England. The working class attempted to gain their humanity back through The Chartist Movement, by political reforms and establishing good communication with the masters, speaking up about the miseries and the injustices and dehumanization of the working class. The progress of the industrial revolution during the mid 19th century led to the dehumanization of the working class of England by numerous attitudes and behaviors of the employers and owners of the factories. Dehumanization included the alienation of laborers and workers by the masters who refused to give heed to the miseries and sufferings of the workers considering them only to be machines used to increase and pile up their wealth and fortune. D. H. Lawrence in his novel Women in Love, by elaborating the human psychology and understanding, provides a fertile field of inquiry to find out his attitude toward industrialization and technology in relation to human behavior and perception. In this article the focus is primarily on the gladiatorial scene of Women in Love through the lens of Lawrence's appropriation of the scientific concept of allotropy to describe the constituent elements of human nature.

Literary texts are but the constitution of sociocultural beliefs, religious beliefs and economic conditions of a particular time. Thus, this paper is an attempt to analyze and understand historical factors such as religious beliefs, social practices and cultural discourses that shaped Yeshi Dorjee Thongchi’s views and concern in depicting Monpas’ and Brokpas’ life and society of a particular time. However, the novel Sonam does not guarantee the exact picture of Monpas’ life in 1980s. Thus, through the lens of new historicism, this Paper will also run in parallel with the core subject to study changes that have taken place by considering the existing beliefs and economic situations a reader lives, and draw proper conclusion to deliberate on the subjectivity and objectivity of the text.
