Discourse analysis can be characterized as the study of relationship between language and the contexts in which it is used. The focus of discourse is on context and on the behavioral patterns that structure the social functions of a language, above and beyond the construction of structural models. For discourse analysts, context is of primary importance. Michel Foucault described discourse as a whole field or domain within which language is used in particular ways. This field or domain is produced in and through social practices, institutions, and actions. Language learning cannot be divorces from social context and the environment in which the learning takes place. The present study seeks to understand the various discourses at play in English as second language classroom teaching. For this purpose, students of Class IX of a government school and their teacher have been selected to evaluate and unravel the interaction in the classroom and the dialogue of individual discourses with the larger social discourse of the classroom. The main focus of the study was to explore if and how gender and socio-economic status of the students impacts the learning in an ESL classroom.

The Mughal Empire as it consolidated itself over most of the subcontinent in the course of the 16th and 17th centuries came into contact and in conflict with a wide range of political formations and regional power groupings. The most prominent amongst them were the Rajputs, who were assimilated within the Mughal political edifice by the end of the sixteenth century. Similarly, the Deccanis and the Marathas emerged as important groups through the course of the seventeenth century. The success of the Mughal system depended primarily on their success in carefully balancing the ambitions of Mughal nobles and imperial mansabdars on one hand, and the interests of various regional and local magnets on the other. Thus, certain levels of administrative systematization went along with creating a new theoretical basis of sovereignty. The present study at one level aims to focus on the interface between the local zamindars in the region of Gujarat and the tribal inhabitants in the region. Their combined attempt to resist and then find avenues of assimilation within the Mughal system is the area which this paper also attempts to survey

This paper attempts to present a review of international trends in inclusive education of children with disability highlighting the status of inclusive education in India. To start with, conceptualization of inclusive education is presented explicating micro and micro exclusion and pseudo inclusion followed up by explaining the concept of ableism that underpins these processes of exclusion. This conceptualization is continued with the major features of inclusive practices in Australia, USA, UK, Italy, Finland and Canada culled out from an extensive literature review. These features include, funding approach to inclusive education, the process of identification of students with disability, inclusive practices followed, parental involvement, curricular adaptations and the prevalent models of educational settings. A capture of the similarities across these countries, highlighting certain special features is presented as a closure of the analysis of practice in these countries. The Indian scenario is presented in continuation to this consolidation sketching a brief picture of the efforts in the direction of inclusive education, analyzing the key challenges in our path of achieving an inclusive education.

There has been a heightened awareness of pervasive, accelerating and unabated environmental changes, the potential economic value of rapidly depleting finite resources, and their attendant implications for sustainable development across the countries. On the basis of a critical examination of environmental preservation, uncertainty and irreversibility, the paper makes a compelling case, for an accent on renewable energy- an accent appropriate in scale and magnitude. Since sustainable development has implications for life, biodiversity, climate variability, environmental sustainability, inter-generational and distributive equity, the paper stresses the need for the formulation of an effective strategy, for environment-friendly development, through common effluent treatment plants, cleaner production technologies and environmental concerns in services, acquisition of ISO 14000, real participatory action-research, etc. In view of the success of local experiments, incentive measures, community enterprises and popular participation, these aspects of the energy discourse need to be replicated on a much wider level, by adopting a holistic approach comprising transforming institutions, growth and quality of life. There is a manifest need to improve access to renewable, reliable and affordable energy services, promote sustainable use of biomass, and support the transition to cleaner use of fossil fuels. This would constitute the basis for long-term economic development, in a true and meaningful sense. Accordingly, a proposed approach to action-oriented, time-bound outcomes underscores the need for facilitating the transfer of energy technologies, enabling policy environments and creating conditions for greater private sector involvement and setting up of proper appraisal mechanisms. There has to an accent, on interactive and mutually reinforcing strategies, such as, strengthening the institutional capacity, public-private partnerships and synchronized relationship between government agencies, UN bodies, business and industry, non-governmental organizations and academia to reduce ubiquitous risks. The survival of species and eco-system services requires making the pursuit of sustainable development a credo, by designing both appropriate energy programs and appropriate energy delivery systems. Towards this end, there has to be enabling policy and operational frameworks comprising cleaner use of fossil fuels, improved use of traditional biomass, sustainable transport, biomass and systems approach, international, national and regional cooperation, gender issues and commitment to concrete measures, with a sequence and well-defined timeline. Policies and programs at both national and global levels must reflect the inextricable connection between socioeconomic and environmental objectives In the absence of integrated policies and programs with inter-institutional linkages, the outcome would be “the worst of all possible worlds” for the citizens of the world, whose tragedy is “awesome” because of “the integral and interdependent nature of the Earth, our home”.

The purpose of the study was to find out lectures' perception of transformational leadership capacities of heads of department and job performance, in the Faculty of Education in Ebonyi State University. A research question and a hypothesis guided the study. The study design was a survey design. The population sample consisted 125 lecturers and heads of departments in the 7departments. The instrument for data collection was a questionnaire titled 'Transformational Leadership Capacities and Lecturers Job Performance Questionnaire (TLCLJP) with sufficient reliability of 0.75. Data collected were analyzed using statistical mean (x) standard deviation (SD) and PersonProduct Moment Correlation Statistics hypothesis was tested at 0.05 level of significance. The result of the study indicated that lecturers'overall perception was on inspirational motivation, leadership capacities exhibited by heads of department in their transformational leadership characteristics. The study showed a significant positive relationship between transformational leadership capacity and lecturers job performance with particular reference to teaching and research work. The study recommended regular in-house leadership training, programming transformational leadership for HODs by the Faculty of education to improve on new trends in educational leadership and management.

Empowering women is an effective strategy for socioeconomic and political development of the modern society, in which, women's health is one of the basic components. Better health care facilities provided to women have been considered as an important way to empower women in several ways. The present study focuses on the issues to understand the state of the women's health in Assam. The women in the State belong to various socioeconomic backgrounds. Rural Assam is heterogeneous, where; problems vary depending on the variation in ecological setup. Women from rural areas, by and large experience poorer health and have less access to health care facilities than that of the urban women. Recently, the Government of Assam has decided to implement the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDG’s), as adopted by the United Nations General Assembly, which will provide greater impact on the health, happiness, prosperity and well being of each and every citizen of Assam. Obviously, the goals cover many of the issues of women health and overall empowerment in the State. Keeping this and related issues of women welfare in mind, a gender atlas of Assam are being prepared within the framework of an ICSSR sponsored research project. Using some preliminary works of the project outcome, the women's health issues has been addressed in the study using a set of maps prepared primarily based on secondary data and critical analysis has been done to highlight the state of women's health in the State.

This article takes an analytical review of Bate Be song’s Beast of No Nation, from the critical standpoint of alienation and identity and locates itself within the corpus of Anglophone Cameroon literature, as a vibrant art form, graphically lending expression to the existentialist politics of the oppressed “inside outsider” in Cameroon. Given the growing sense of rootlessness, feelings of not belonging, fractured existence and desolation portraying the futility of human existence in the hostile city of Ednouay, the article argues for a safe, aesthetic space that will enable those affected reassert their identity and minimize alienation as a way forward because, alienation and identity have grievous implications on the characters of the play and accounts for the revolutionary nature of characters, of the lower rung in the fictional city of Ednouay. The paper addresses problems imposed on the people’s cultural fabric by colonialism, which has sustained a permanent divide between English speaking Cameroonians called Anglophones and French speaking Cameroonians called Franco phones.

The research paper is an attempt to identify and delineate the role of health communication in mainstreaming the malnutrition issues affiliating the women segment of the society. Communication has become one of the pivotal parts of human life. It plays a significant role in our daily life processes. Today directly or indirectly, media play the most important role in communicating information around the world. Media covers a wide dimension of our society in which health is an important aspect to look upon. Media concedes various developments in the health sector. Media helps to inform, encourage, motivate and promote people about the information related to health issues. The steps taken to make people aware of the health-related issues is known as health communication. The researchers focused on the knowledge, behavior, and attitude of the rural women towards several health issues. The main objectives of the research work are to determine the knowledge of health-related issues among the rural women of Lucknow district, to understand the importance of health communication in rural areas and to examine the reach and access of communication in the rural areas. A survey of 200 rural women collected from the village areas of Lucknow district. The sampling area selected by the researcher was Kalli Pashchim and Birura villages of Lucknow. The sampling technique used in the research study is judgment sampling. The interview schedule was prepared to keep the nutritional status of the rural women and communication reach on the subject of health issue in mind like malnutrition. The findings indicate that the majority of the respondents are not aware of the concept of 'Health Communication'. This shows that the term 'Health Communication' is not known by more than half of the rural women respondents. The researchers found that only 14% of the respondents take an interest in health-related programs and they watch and hear the programs. While maximum female respondents said that they love watching daily soaps and rarely watch any program related to health. The researcher found that 60.50% feel that the media is playing a crucial role in communicating information related to health related issues. This shows that the women in rural areas understand the importance of media in the field of health.
