The role and place of the English language in education in Ghana makes students’ performance in the subject an important issue for stakeholders in education. Following the poor performance of Level 100 students in English in the 2013/2014 second semester examination in some public colleges of education, this study made an exploratory comparative investigation into why students in some colleges of education performed highly and others performed poorly. A qualitative study involving observation of lessons, interviews with 8 tutors, 8 heads of English departments, 8 principals of colleges and a focus group interview with 80 teacher trainees from 8 colleges made up of 4 colleges with high student performance and 4 with poor student performance was undertaken. The findings suggest that students’ weak background in English, under qualified teachers, lack of logistical support and professional development training impacted negatively on teaching and learning, contributing to students’ poor performance in the English examination. It was recommended that colleges screen student entry qualifications, ensure that only qualified professional English teachers teach the subject and that these teachers receive regular professional training and support to improve the quality of teaching and learning

The reliability coefficient of the research instrument was determined by split-half method and was found to be 0.73. Descriptive statistics were used to analyze the data which was presented in tables. The findings were: The majority (63.0%) of the head teachers who participated in the survey were females while male head teachers were 37.0% and the schools managed by female head teachers had better mean scores in KCPE than those of their male counterparts. Therefore, the gender of head teachers in management of school facilities enhanced pupils’ performance in KCPE. Muhammad Ali Pasha managed to seize Sham from the grasp of the Ottoman Empire during the period (1831-1841), within his expansionist project to establish an empire in the Arab region. There were different views on the experience of Muhammad Ali. Some of these views considered it a renaissance project that led Egypt to recover its leading role in the region, while the other views saw it as an expansionist project that sapped the country's wealth for personal purposes. However, no one can deny that the era of Mohammed Ali Pasha was the brightest era of Egypt in recording events and the heavy use of archival material. Therefore, a large number of the sources of the Egyptian rule of Syria were kept in the National Archives in Cairo, on which most Historians depended in studying the history of that period. In addition, there are some contemporary sources and other modern sources represented by the writings of historians.
This research includes three key elements and a conclusion. Its methodology is to define each source separately and its role in providing the historical material, and then displaying the criticism of the source in terms of form and content. The form analysis process consists of indexing, classification, and presentation. Hence, the present study could be a guide for researchers who could go back to that period for further investigations
The French New Wave (La Nouvelle Vague) is one of the most important movements in the history of cinema. An aesthetic understanding created by the New Wave cinema, has given a new dimension to cinema movies in the quest for peculiar language and expression. In particular, French animated films have been able to attract the attention and admiration of audiences by introducing themselves with a different interpretation of realism. In this study, some important examples of recent French animated films, Sylvain Chomet's 2003 production ‘The Triplets of Belleville’, and the Jean-Loup Felicioli and Alain Gagnol-directed 2010 film ‘A Cat in Paris’ are discussed in accordance with the salient features of the New Wave movement. It is crucial to investigate the contribution of the New Wave movement to the development of the language of animation and its influence on today's animated films, in terms of understanding what possible advances there could be in the future
The study evaluated learning activities and chapter summaries of approved physics textbooks in Ebonyi State of Nigeria. Two research questions and one hypothesis guided the study. The study employed evaluation research design. Eighteen secondary schools and eighteen teacher were drawn from the three education zone through simple random sampling and stratified random sampling respectively. A 5-point quantitative approach for content evaluation of science textbooks (QACEST) was used as the instrument for data collection. It adopts a set of 5 criteria which includes topical coverage, learning activities, study questions, illustration and chapter summary. The QACEST formula was used to answer the research questions while the hypothesis was tested using chi-square test of goodness-of-fit. The findings revealed among others that only one out of four physics textbooks in Ebonyi state secondary schools had adequate learning activity index. Thus the physics textbooks in Ebonyi State secondary schools do not have adequate learning activity and appropriate chapter summary. Based on these findings, conclusions were drawn and recommendations made.
