The purpose of this text is to introduce the two characters who cross the Grande Sertão: veredas:
Riobaldo and Diadorim, using the concept of individuation and life forms in Gilles Deleuze. In Rosa, these characters represent the aforementioned concepts of Deleuze’s philosophy. In this novel, the two characters introduce us to ways of escaping from the tradition of establishing an ethos for the life of a band in the backlands. The signs of love between Riobaldo and Diadorim emphasize their individuality, but not distinguishing them as man and woman, but rather, as bodies of any shape or any individual organism. This
individuation of affection is not subject to the binary nature of man/woman, but rather to the life activities that create a new way of living. According to Deleuze, it is these negotiations that create and comprise the
hecceities, that is, an activity that is established beginning from the ability to be affectionate and to receive affection.
