Between September 15, 1862 and July 1, 18633, the Portuguese poet Faustino Xavier de Novais edited, in Rio de janeiro, the literary magazine O Futuro. In it collaborated Brazilian and Portuguese writers, many of them belonging to the then Portuguese colony of Brazil's capital. The present study aims to investigate the general spirit of the publication, a magazine programmatically Luso-Brazilian, highlighting the collaborations of Machado de Assis, Camilo Castelo Branco and its publisher, Faustino Xavier de Novais.
