Taxonomic reassessment of Planorbis llanerensis from the Neogene of Monagas state, Venezuela (Gastropoda, Planorbidae)

In the 1940ís, a fossil freshwater pulmonate was found in an excavation site in Monagas state, Venezuela (Las Piedras/Quiriquire Formation, Pliocene), and was described as Planorbis llanerensis Palmer, 1945. The genus Planorbis M¸ller, 1773, however, is now considered to be Palearctic; all its supposed South American species had their allocation in this genus revised. Thus, here we present a taxonomic reassessment of this species, resulting in the new combination Helisoma llanerensis.

New records of Pseudotorinia architae (Gastropoda, Architectonicidae) from southeastern Brazil

Three new records of Pseudotorinia architae (O.G. Costa, 1841) are reported from southeastern Brazil, namely from the continental slope of Abrolhos (off EspÌrito Santo state) and from off Vitória Island and São Sebastião (São Paulo state). These new records greatly extend the known geographic range of the species; its previously southernmost record being from the Caribbean Sea.

Redescription of Solatisonax cabrali (Gastropoda, Architectonicidae), with two new records from southeastern Brazil

The original description of Solatisonax cabrali Tenório, Barros, Francisco & Silva, 2011 (Architectonicidae) was based on four eroded juvenile shells found on the northeastern Brazilian coast. The present study redescribes this snail species based on the type material and additional well-preserved shells collected in southeastern Brazil, an adult and a juvenile, respectively from off Ubatuba (São Paulo state) and Campos Basin (Rio de Janeiro state). The type material is also partially illustrated herein. Some problems with the original description of the species are here addressed. The new records extend the known geographic range of the species ca. 1,700 km southwards, from Pernambuco to São Paulo.

The fossil land and freshwater mollusks of Sandelzhausen (Early/Middle Miocene, Germany): Caenogastropoda, Neritimorpha, lower Heterobranchia and Bivalvia

Sandelzhausen is a rich Early/Middle Miocene (Mammal Neogene zone MN5) fossil site near Mainburg, Southern Germany. Hundreds of fossil continental mollusks, almost exclusively pulmonates snails, were recovered during the excavations, but never received due attention by researchers. Here, a taxonomical treatment of the non-pulmonate fossil mollusks from Sandelzhausen is presented, dealing with the Caenogastropoda, Neritimorpha, lower Heterobranchia and Bivalvia. The following species were found in the material: Bithynia sp. (Bithyniidae); Pomatias sp. (Pomatiidae); Theodoxus sp. (Neritidae); Valvata sp. (Valvatidae); Sphaerium sp. (Sphaeriidae). Unfortunately, the poor preservation of the material precludes a more precise identification.
