The objectives of the study are to assess the engineering competence of the subsoil and develop a subsoil competence map for northern parts of Ondo State, Nigeria, using integrated remote sensing, geotechnical, geophysical and geological investigations, and hydrogeological measurements. The generated subsoil competence map was obtained by integrating the results data of these parameters measured: topsoil resistivity and thickness, plasticity index, shear strength, allowable bearing pressure, soil association, lineament density, and groundwater level. Based on the design, the obtained settlement values were within the 25 mm commonly recommended. Consequently, the map classified the study area into moderate competence (60%), high competence (35%), and very high competence (5%). The corrosivity map of the topsoil shows predominant moderate to mildly corrosivity, prominently in Ose and Akoko areas and constitutes about 70 %. This type of corrosivity is suitable for buried communication equipment and electrodes. In conclusion, shallow foundations such as pad or raft foundation of reinforced concrete can be adopted for buildings. Also, the soil geotechnical properties will support adequately road structures and various earthworks. However, areas characterized by moderate competence material can be improved by less expensive mechanical compaction and proper use of admixtures (lime, cement, bituminous addition, sand/gravel grading) to increase bearing capacity, compaction, and shear strength, which will invariably reduce compressibility, settlement, and permeability. © International Journal of Ground Sediment & Water, ©Sun Jichao. The study was conducted to identify adaptable high biomass, leaf to steam ratio, and good quality yield of Alfalfa cultivars at Bore Agricultural research center. Eight Alfalfa cultivars; Hunter river, Magna-801-FG, Pioneer (1995) DZF-406, Segule1396 (408), Peruvian DZF (406), F-G-9-09, F-L-L-77-(406), and Hunter river (4010) were tested in RCBD with three replications. Plant height was significantly (P < 0.05) higher for Hairy (1995) DZF-406 cultivar (83 cm) while lower for Magna-801-FG. Disease resistance was significantly different (P < 0.05) among cultivars. Segue (1396)-408 cultivars were highly resistant to diseases compared to others. Leaf to stem ratio, biomass yield, and seed yield did not show significant (P > 0.05) differences among treatments. Regarding chemical compositions of NDF, ADL and CP were significantly (P < 0.05) different among treatments. The superior ADL was obtained from Segule (1396)-408 cultivar (32.5%) while, the low was obtained from F-L-L-77 (406) cultivar. The superior NDF was obtained from Poineer (1995) DZF-406 cultivar (70.7%) whereas; the low was from Peruvien- DZF- 406 cultivars (45.9%). The CP yield showed a significant (P < 0.05) difference among cultivars. Magna- 801-FG cultivar had the superior (26.3%) CP while Segule (1396)-408 cultivar (11.3%) had the inferior CP content. Cultivar F-G-9-09 was produced superior in DM (91.8%) and less in ADL (9.3%) while Segule 1396 (1396)-408 cultivar produce (91.3%) DM and lower in TASH (10.8%). superior OM has obtained from Segule 1396 (408) cultivar (80.4%) compared to others. Based on its yield, plant height, biomass yield, and chemical compositions, good DM and OM Peruvien- DZF- 406, F-L-L-77 (406,) Segule-1396 (408), and F-G-9-09 is recommended for further promotion in the highland and midland of Guji and similar agro-ecologies. © International Journal of Ground Sediment & Water, ©Sun Jichao. In the course teaching of introduction to Hydraulic and hydroelectric engineering in the hydrology and Water Resources Engineering major of China University of Geosciences (Beijing), to obtain teaching effect, and guide and adjust the teaching schedule and content. This paper studies and establishes two monitoring systems, the two-dimensional code anonymous grading system, and the teaching quality quantified grading system, to monitor the course. The two monitoring systems can be generally accepted by students and have positive effects. Through the use of a monitoring system in teaching from 2017 to 2019, remarkable results have been achieved, including a series of achievements in teaching reform, engineering practice, student innovation, and other aspects. The study interest was to ascertain the quality of water in the area and its influence of disease incidence. To achieve this, water quality analysis was also done for three water samples which were collected from public water boreholes. The parameters of interest to the study are pH, Total Dissolved Solids, E.coli, Total Heterotrophic Bacteria, Total Coliform Count, Chromium, Nickel, Cadmium and Lead, all these parameters were tested using standard operating procedure in line with World Health Organization (WHO) standards. The study showed that the quality of the water in the area is poor and polluted and hence possess great danger to life especially children and the aged. The study recommended that water regulatory authorities if not in place should be set up primarily to ensure water facility provision and maintenance in the area. Residents as well should be encouraged to boil their water before consumption as a measure to curtail the spread of water borne disease which is evident in the area. © International Journal of Ground Sediment & Water, ©Sun Jichao. This study was carried out to review the actions of radionuclides, their formation processes and presence in water and sediments. Although since its discovery it has been found to play some negative role on man's health and destruction the solid part of the earth where man depends for his survival through agriculture. Hence this study focused on reviewing the works of other writers as to ascertain the role, sources, presences and action as well as the processes of radionuclide formation. The review showed that radionuclides are the sources of radioactivity and emit nuclear radiation which has become a part of our daily lives. The most common forms of ionizing radiation (released energy) are alpha particles, beta particles and gamma rays. The properties of radiations have wide applications in areas such as medicine, biology, industry, agriculture, and electric power generation. There are numerous health hazard associated with radiation exposure due to an overdose of it. The study also discovered that its sources occur from both natural and manmade and that different methods are applied in determining the presence of radionuclide and that some equipments have also been developed over the years that are used for detecting radionuclide. The study concluded that having understood that radionuclides occur through anthropogenic activities and noting its health effects, there is need to guide activities that bring about its existence and set in policies that could reduce actions that ignite its natural occurring process. © International Journal of Ground Sediment & Water, ©Sun Jichao.
