This is an historical analysis of the essay entitled Nuestra América [Our America], written by the intellectual revolutionary José J. Martí. Knowing and analyzing the various historical contexts of our America have become key requirement in the pursuit of Martinian libertarian praxis, given that, in present times, it is important to any approach that intends to contribute to the transformation of diverse situations of dependency and control that tend to mutate as the system changes that originated them. Within this framework, and as if recounting the past, we propose the development of a genuine epistemology whose contents question thought and revise customary ways of thinking. The study of several of Marti’s texts allows us to see the author's praxis as a complex that associates the history of his own revolutionary present with a clear, counter-hegemonic critique sui generis that we still consider to be relevant today.

The #RenunciaYa movement, Spa-nish for “Resign Now,” that led to the resignation of the president and vice president of Guatemala, is similar in many ways to movements in other parts of Latin America and the world. However, as with all social movements, it also has a series of defining charac-teristics that derive from historical and cultural factors, and from the country’s recent socio-political dynamic. Two other factors are taken into account when analyzing the movement: an external factor that is the United States of America, with important geostrategic interests in the region, and the self-interested participation of people and groups of the Guatemalan bourgeoisie.

Based on the theories and contributions made by researchers on the topic of the extractive industry, this article attempts to answer the following questions: What is extractivism? Is it a new process of capitalist accumulation or does it have a colonial background? Are there substantial differences in government approach strategies between the left and the right? What is the outlook for the region? How do the social sciences respond to this phenomenon? Do alternatives exist to the extractive industry? We attempt to answer these questions and generate many more on the subject to better understand and contribute to a current and open discussion in our countries and around the world. Our proposal is that the possibility exists that we are not necessarily facing a new or different phenomenon, but rather one with deep historical roots and complex, current implications. Critical action and social resistance to the prevailing extractivism have given rise to a school of thought for which the term "post-extractivism" has been coined. What does it consist of and what does it propose?
