The main aim of this study is to investigate the existence of the anomalies which are the day of the week effect, Friday the thirteenth effect, January effect and full moon effect and is to reveal whether or not these anomalies become different between the advanced and emerging markets if there are these anomalies. In this study which used the daily close prices of 6 advanced and 6 emerging market indexes between 2000-2014 as data, the hypothesizes were tested by using Mann-Whitney U and Kruskal Wallis H tests. The findings of this study have revealed that there is the day of the week anomaly in Brazil, Peru, Poland, the United Kingdom and the Singapore stock exchanges; there is January anomaly in India and the UK stock exchanges; there is full moon anomaly in Turkey, Brazil, Poland, Japan, the USA and Canadian stock exchanges and there is Friday the thirteenth anomaly in Mexico. The findings of this study have also revealed that there is not a relationship between the development levels of the markets and aforementioned anomalies.

This study is found to find out how interest rate corridor strategy, which is new policy tool implemented by Central Bank of Turkey in 2011, affects financial investment tools, common stocks and Exchange rates. The study separates the time into two periods, the period before interest rate corridor strategy and the period after implementation of interest rate corridor strategy. The effects of the changes in policy interest rate on the common stocks and exchange rate are examined in the framework of structural vector auto regression (SVAR) model. The most important finding is that the effect of a change in policy interest rate on common stocks and exchange rate becomes more permanent after interest rate corridor strategy. Another finding is that short term capital flows with speculative move is deterred from after this strategy. Findings are in coincidence with the results of increase in interest rate volatility as Başçı and Kara (2011) suggests.

The purpose of this study is to determine the levels of use of the modern financing techniques by the managers of accommodation enterprises which have a high-level financing requirement within the tourism industry. Four- and five-star accommodation enterprises which provide services in Alanya were determined to be the population of study. Survey technique was used as the data collection method. As a result of the study, it was found that the accommodation enterprises choose the financial leasing among the modern financing techniques, and the trade banks among the financial institutions. In addition, another result achieved by the study is that the economic expectations of the accommodation enterprises regarding these techniques increase, as their awareness on modern financing techniques is raised.

Global Financial Crisis erupted as a sub-prime mortgage market crisis in US and became a full-fledged global crisis after the fall of Lehman Brothers. Thus, the effects of financial crisis spread to all over the world. In the Eurozone, the financial crisis became more challenging as it provoked the sovereign debt problems of some countries and triggered a sovereign debt crisis. Sovereign Debt Crisis was the first crisis in the Eurozone after forming a monetary union and put the viability of the union under risk. In this tranquil environment, European Central Bank (ECB) responded the crisis with set of monetary policy tools- conventional and unconventional. ECB pursued unconventional monetary policy parallel to its conventional monetary policy tool- policy rate. It provided liquidity support to markets, purchase public and private assets and guide markets about future short-term interest rates in the context of unconventional monetary policy. The aims of using these policies are similar for all central banks: alleviating the financial market tensions and stimulating aggregate demand. This study evaluated the effectiveness of these policies on the basis of these aims. The study finds out that ECB has been effective on depressing the financial market stress but ECB has not been effective on stimulating the aggregate demand.

Occupational accidents cause important social and economic problems by loss of life and physical injuries. Construction sector involves high risk due to its production processes and labor intensive characteristic and because of occupational accidents the sector brings up against financial loss in large scale. In developing countries, construction sector is one of the most important sectors that have a great contribution to economic development with its employment capacity and added-value to the economy. On the other hand, due to the lack of preventive measures, occupational accidents occur, frequently in construction in Turkey. Major occupational accidents are defined as the cause of serious injuries and a long-term disability; minor occupational accidents are defined as the cause of insignificant injuries and short-term disability. Minor occupational accidents are not considered sufficiently, they are even not kept as a record. It is known that minor occupational accidents, which are not considered sufficiently and even not registered, cause great financial loss in workplaces. The aim of this paper is to investigate the cost of workforce loss caused by the accidents in construction sites by using the statistics of three construction sites in Turkey and to compare the financial losses of minor and major occupational accidents. In this study, three construction project are investigated in Turkey in 2009 and it is obtained that the cost of workday loss caused by major occupational accidents is 19431.75 $ and minor occupational accidents cause a loss of 6924.25 $. The cost of workday loss caused by minor occupational accidents are almost 35 % of major workday losses’. These costs presents the importance of preventive measures for workers’ health and safety in construction.

The threat generated by obesity is increasing in terms of health of both individuals and society day by day. States are using different tools in fighting against this threat. One of these tools is taxing obesity. In fighting against obesity, in order to protect health, while there are tax proposals and practices in different names and subjects, Obesity Tax" is used as a generic name. We conducted a field questionnaire study applied all around Turkey, in order to measure the public opinion related with "Obesity Tax" that probably would be applied in Turkey. In this paper it is determined that public believe the necessity of fighting obesity; however, this struggle must be based on non-tax instruments because they have concern the tax might be applied for the fiscal purposes. According to results of the study, we offer specifically to the policy makers that regulative, public supported, efficient and unique “Obesity Tax” must be implemented, but, such tax revenues must be spent for fighting against obesity or subsidies for healthy products.
