The Hitnu indigenous people suffer from a serious food crisis that has been sharpened by many factors in recent years. The purpose of this text is to present a multi-causal overview of the current situation of the production and access to food by this indigenous group. The purpose is to understand the situation that they are facing, and to contribute analytic elements that allow to overcome certain investigative approaches and reductionist social interventions, in so far as they concentrate on a single area of the problem. The article will state the need of considering: the current patterns of social organization, inter-generational differences, land uses, the variation of indigenous territory, types of social classification, inter-ethnic relationships, the interference of external groups (Multinational Corporations, guerrillas), the close economic relations with the non-indigenous world, among other elements that allow us to approach this complex food crisis. The severity of the Hitnu people’s food crisis will be highlighted based on the data collected through fieldwork, ethnography, and bibliographical review. This is one case, among many others in the country, that makes apparent the enormous vulnerability of the Ethnic communities.

This work examines the cultural bonds that were established between Spain and the United States in the first third of the 20th century. The rich exchanges that developed among various institutions, foundations, universities and individuals – especially involving Barnard College Professor, Carolina Marcial Dorado, will be analized. Such cultural cooperation produced extraordinary results, but it was short-lived, being seriously affected by the military situation that began with the Spanish Civil war and continued through the Second World War.

This study will address three momentous issues in the life of these native communities: the dismantling of reservations, the fight for exemption from payment of tribute and the claiming of rights and social guarantees.

This article proposes to review and discuss several academic works on the concept of “memory”. The main aim is constructing a frame to deal with the way in which the graphic press represents the trial process against those responsible for the crimes committed by the State during the last civic-military dictatorship in Argentina (1976- 1983). The article opens with an introduction that places the trial process in Argentina as an event allowing for the emergence of new discourses and meanings linked to terror, which in turn produces new developments in the Social Sciences in general and in the studies of memory in particular. The first section focuses on the ways in which “memory” has been discussed and defined as an analytical category by the Social Sciences. The subsequent sections aim to coalesce the main characteristics of the concept of memory built throughout the article, thus understood as a situated, conflictive, multiple, long-lasting process that connects past, present and future. Finally, the discussion and conclusions seek to contrast such concept with the approach of trials in the written press, leaving some questions open to further debate.
