Root granulomas are chronic periapical lesions, considered direct sequels of infectious processes resulting from pulp necrosis, extending into the periradicular region. The granulomas can occur due to failures in hard tissues, resulting from caries, fractures and surgical procedures. A conventional endodontic treatment was done with crown down technique in a patient of 15 years old with a diagnosis of periapical granuloma (chronic nonsuppurative apical periodontitis) and subsequent recovery from injury in tooth 36.

The knowledge of sexual practices in young adults is required to run preventive actions aimed at the reduction of transmitted sexual diseases and unwanted pregnancies. Materials and Methods: A descriptive cross-sectional study with case-control analysis was developed by selecting 589 college students between 18 and 26 years of age. Results: 502 of 589 students were analyzed; the average age of their first sexual intercourse occurred at 16.26 years. 50.4% of the sample was men; the practice of anal intercourse was 37.9%, while the practice of oral sex was 70.9%. After making associations in relation to gender and sexual practices, it was found that the practice of oral sex for men has an OR 1.62 (C.I. 95% 1.09 to 2.39), similar to anal sex where we found an OR 1.69 (C.I. 95% 1.17 to 2.44). When adjusted, the outcome was that there were no statistically significant differences by gender for oral sex ORA 1.13 (C.I.95% 0.72 to 1.78) and for anal sex ORA 1.30 (C.I. 95% 0.84 to 6.39). Conclusions: No statistically significant differences were found within sexual practices between the two genders.

Objetive: Descriptive, correlational and retrospective study. Sougth to determine the effectiveness of the testing and correlation index between uterine cervical cytology and colposcopy, procedures performed in a health institution in Santa Marta, Colombia, in the period January to December 2011. Methods: analyzed 34 cases from the medical history of patients with similarity in the presumptive diagnosis of squamous intraepithelial lesion of low and high risk, were practiced uterine cervical cytology and colposcopy as a confirmatory test. The tests were practiced in the same entity under study, was analyzed by correlation index and effectiveness of the tests separately trhough the T test. Results: Women aged between 18 and 55 years old, the correlation index between cytology and colposcopy not evidenced direct relationship, obtaining a reverse and weak index. The individual analysis of effectiveness of tests through the T test, confirms higher effectiveness of colposcopy respect to the cytology. Conclusions: found higher effectiveness of colposcopy for the definition of the diagnosis in a group of patients treated with a reverse and weak relationship between the two tests.

This study aimed at exploring the perceptions, evaluations and attributions regarding water usage in a context of tension and conflict between different categories of users of the same river basin. To this end, 201 people who use one basin originating in the northern slope of the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta (SNSM) were interviewed. The interviewees belonged to different sociocultural categories: Colombian natives, city dwellers, and peasants. Four points were assessed: attributions of the causes of water misuse, estimation of the amount of water used, types of perceived and/or attributed uses for water and judgements regarding water usage among the groups of users. It is concluded that tension exists between users living in the city and those living in the countryside. The former are considered to be responsible for misusing and contaminating water. This evaluation is essentially based on the types of use perceived. We confirmed the initial hypothesis that is based on the influence of the living environment in social representations, perceptions, and judgments about an environmental object and on the intergroup relationships of those who share a territory and its resources.

Background: Several studies report a significant association between religiosity and depressive symptoms among adolescents; but, other researches do not. Up to date, this relation has not investigated in adolescent students who live in a violent and low-income country. Objective: To establish the correlation between religiosity and depressive symptoms among students in Cartagena, Colombia. Method: A cross-sectional study was done with participation of adolescents aged between 13 and 17 years old. Students completed two scales: the five-item form of the Francis scale of attitude toward Christianity (Francis-5), which asked about God, Jesus and prayer (higher scores suggest higher religiosity); and the WHO Well-Being Index (WHO-5) inquired depressive symptoms last two weeks (lower scores suggest higher depressive symptoms). It was accepted as a significant Pearson correlation (rho, r) a coefficient value higher than 0.20. A total of 1,730 students answered the questionnaires. The mean age was 14.7 (SD = 1.2). According to gender, 912 (52.7%) students were girls; and 818 (47.3%), boys. Francis-5 showed high internal consistency, coefficient alpha of 0.909; and coefficient omega of 0.910. WHO-5 presented coefficient alpha of 0.757; and omega of 0.759. The Francis-5 scores were between zero and twenty (Mean = 18.2, SD = 3.0, median = 20, mode = 20); and WHO-5 scores, between zero and fifteen (Mean = 10.2, SD = 3.1, median = 10, mode = 10). Religiosity had not significant correlation with depressive symptoms (r = 0.080). Conclusions: Religiosity is not associated with depressive symptoms among adolescent students in Cartagena, Colombia. The Endodontic perforations are artificial openings that result in the communication of the root canal system with the perirradicular tissues or oral cavity. These are undesirable complications that can occur during any stage of root canal treatment, or during the preparation of the space for the bolt. Although they can be produced by cavities or resorptive processes, the majority of the perforations are made iatrogenically. The therapeutic management of root perforations throughout history has been a critical and ongoing investigation topic in search of the development of suitable materials for their sealing, but the mineral trioxide aggregate (MTA) is the mostly used as a guarantee of success in such a procedure due to its physical and biochemical properties, such as biocompatibility, and regenerative bone, cementum and periodontal ligament. This case demonstrates the nonsurgical success obtained from the sealing of a contaminated apical perforation using MTA in the affected area, and the use of thermoplastic gutta for the complementary filling in upper anterior tooth.

Objective: To describe the quality of life of the elderly, user eaters Family Welfare Methodology: A descriptive, cross, whose shows were 343 seniors, selected through random sampling, the instrument used sociodemographic National University Colombia and the quality of life instrument Betty R Ferrell, appreciating the physical, psychological, social and spiritual Results: Most are separated or widowed men, 80% of them live forcibly displaced come from the lower strata. The physical dimension: showed progressive deterioration of physical and chronic diseases, the psychological dimension: feelings of depression, loneliness and uncertainty. The social dimension: abuse in some cases, and that generates a situation of displacement, disruption of social networks, affective and change in family roles. Dimension spirituality, attending religious rituals and activities that foster their spirituality. Conclusions: There is a loss of quality of life, based on the physical, social and psychological.

Historically, sexual and reproductive behavior does receive social, political and religious influences. Male circumcision has been proposed recently as a public health strategy to reduce Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) transmission. The aim of this paper is to review male circumcision implications and its impact in preventing HIV transmission, in a historical context. A non-systematic review of available bibliography was made, up to today, using Pubmed and Bireme data bases. First records of male circumcision are more than 4000 years. Mostly it has been used in a religious context. Female circumcision is traditionally questioned, but male not. The therapeutic indication for circumcision includes phimosis, paraphimosis, and repeated infections of the glans; however, its prophylactic recommendation is questioned. Medical and psychological complications associated with male circumcision are frequent. Available evidence shows a consistent diminution of Human Papillomavirus (HPV) and Chlamydia trachomatis transmission, but not HIV. There are ethical and medical questions related to the systematic practice of male circumcision, especially in children. Male circumcision is a millenary practice, which is effective to reduce HPV and Chlamydia trachomatis transmission, but not HIV. Additional debates about medical and ethical implications of masculine circumcision are required.
