Establishment of norms for crown angulation and inclination among Maratha population: Cross-Sectional Study

Objectives: Selection of an appropriate bracket prescription for any particular individual or population facilitates idealistic and realistic goals for different esthetic around the world. As Caucasian norms show a great degree of variation when applied to different populations, it becomes necessary to establish the norms for every ethnic group. The present study was designed to derive norms of crown angulation and inclination for the Maratha ethnic population, which would be compared with Caucasian norms. Materials and Method: The sample consisted of 100 adult subjects (50 males and 50 females) of Maratha ethnic origin with traced back to two generations, age group of 18 years and above. Acceptable and straight profiles; Class I molar relation on both sides; with normal overjet and overbite; well aligned arches. Orthodontic Torque Angulation Device (TAD) was used to measure the crown angulation and inclination. Comparison of these values with those established by Andrews is done using unpaired t-test. Comparison of these values with Group I and Group II is done using paired t-test. Result: The study group exhibited statistically significant values of maxillary and mandibular teeth showed positive crown angulation, maxillary central and lateral incisor showed positive inclination and all other teeth showed negative crown inclination. Maxillary lateral incisor, canine and premolars were less angulated whereas mandibular crown angulation indicates lesser angulation for anterior teeth. Maxillary and mandibular incisors and molars is more positively inclined. And no sexual dimorphism was seen. Conclusion: Tip and torque modification are suggested for the fine finishing, idealistic and realistic occlusion in Maratha population.

Introduction: Toll like receptors along with their co receptors contribute an essential task in immune and destruction mechanism. The aim of the present study was expression of Toll like receptor 4 and Cluster of differentiation 14 in healthy group and chronic periodontitis group. Materials and Method: Forty gingival biopsies were harvested of which10 were of healthy subjects and 30 from chronic periodontitis based on clinical records. All specimens were fixed, processed and stained by haematoxylin and eosin to histologically classify periodontitis. Later the sections were stained immunohistochemically using primary antibody for toll like receptor 4 and cluster of differentiation 14 respectively. Results: The positive expression of both Toll Like Receptor 4 and Cluster of Differentiation14 was defined as light or dark brown granules in the cytoplasm of the cell. Expression was higher in zone1 followed by zone 2 and zone 3 in chronic periodontitis. Conclusion: Toll Like Receptors act as a two-edged sword, not only maintaining periodontal health but also contributing to periodontal tissue destruction.

Introduction: Oral health is one of the important aspects of overall general health. The Oral health care is provided by the means of several modalities which leads to the generation of the biomedical waste. The management of the same is considered as an important aspect to avoid hazards of the same to the humans. The aim of the present study was to evaluate the knowledge, attitude and practices of dental care waste management among private dental practitioners in Latur city. Materials and Method: The present cross sectional study was conducted among 48 private practitioners practicing in Latur city. The prefabricated validity tested questionnaire was used for the present study. The results were formulated using chi-square tests. Results: Amongst the total respondents 77.08% were males and 22.92% were females while 27.08% were postgraduates and 72.92% were undergraduates. In the present study, only 20% of undergraduate practitioners knew about ten categories of biomedical waste mentioned by ministry of environment and forest. Only half i.e. 50% practitioners knew that contaminated sharps should be disposed in blue/white colored container. The total no. of 33.3% of dentists directly dispose infected needles in common bin. Conclusion: In the present study it has been observed that the most of the practitioners had acceptable knowledge about biomedical waste management but they fail to apply that in their practice. Hence legislations and implementation of various programs will certainly give better effect along with practitioner’s positive attitude.

The Giant Central Cell Lesion is a potentially aggressive intraosseous condition that appears exclusively in the upper and lower jaws, and normally in patients 30 years old, or younger. Its potentiality of causing bone and root reabsorption, and tooth displacement, make its occurrence, although rare, significant. The etiology, as well as the treatment of this lesion has been debated over the years within a scholar community that condemns surgical removal as the only potential treatment, while others report the benefits of alternative pharmacological approaches that have provided diverse results. This case study involves a giant central cell lesion that appeared in an 11 year old girl who initially reported having suffered mandibular trauma. The patient underwent a treatment with intralesional corticosteroid injections (triamcinolone acetonide) during 6 sessions, over an eight month period. The patient was monitored during a 2 year period; subsequent X-ray monitoring revealed that the lesion dissipated. The results of this study showed that the use of intralesional corticosteroids is a non-invasive alternative to surgery, especially in connection to the type of patients that normally present this condition.
