The aim of this study was to evaluate the productive potential of tubers of 14 genotypes, with 02 commercial varieties and 12 clones of sweet potato as an alternative to animal nutrition. We evaluated 14 genotypes of sweet potato, and 12 clones, obtained from botanical seeds of open pollinated populations in November/97: CL-01, CL-03, CL-04, CL-10, CL-11 and CL-12, cultivar Copinha; CL-09, cultivar Paulistinha White, CL-13 and CL-14, cultivar Purple Rama Fina, CL-02, the cultivar White Co; CL-06, cv 60 Days, CL -08, I Pixaim cultivar and two cultivars from the city of Arapiraca, Alagoas: Queen of Penedo and Sergipe. We collected eleven plants the central row, discarding are two on each side of the border. We collected eleven plants the central row, discarding are two on each side of the border. Harvest was done manually using hoes, after collection, the material was washed to remove excess soil contained in the roots after they were weighed and samples taken from 750g patterns for each clone and were taken to drying temperatures 65 ° c for 72 hours. At 130 days after planting, at harvest time, we evaluated the total production of tubers (in t/ha-1) and dry matter production (in t/ha-1). This, in turn, was determined taking into account the production of green (in t/ha-1) of each treatment and the corresponding percentage of dry matter of these treatments. Soon after, the material was sent to the laboratory of Animal Nutrition, Department of Animal Science, Rural Federal University of Pernambuco (UFRPE) for the following chemical analyzes the percentage of dry matter (DM), crude protein (CP), percentage of Matter mineral (MM) and percentage of Neutral Detergent Fiber (NDF) and percentage of acid detergent fiber (ADF) (SILVA, 2002). Analyses of variance and comparisons among means of genotypes of sweet potato by the Tukey test at the 5% level of probability. Clones 2:03 and cultivate Queen of Penedo showed the highest rates of MS. Clone 14 had the highest percentage of CP. The percentages of mineral matter, neutral detergent fiber and acid detergent fiber were similar among genotypes.
