This article describes the main aspects of the worldview of Niccolo Machiavelli – one of the biggest thinkers of the Re¬naissance. Machiavelli's doctrine is based on a deep knowledge of social and psychological patterns of human be¬ha¬vior. Historically Machiavelli is shown as a keen cynic, who believed that the basis of political behavior is profit or power, and that policy should be based on force, not on the morality, which can be neglected for a good purpose.
Machiavellianism is understood as a political activity, which does not neglect any ways to achieve the goal, and is based on the belief that in communication with others you not only can, but need to manipulate, and manipulation is not just some¬thing natural, but also it is the most effective way of interaction. In this article, however, is explained the thesis about pro¬found psychological realism of Italian thinker doctrine and, in particular, his following fundamental thesis that nature has created people so, that they may want anything; between two poles - the desired and actual - there is a dangerous voltage (dissatisfaction), which can fracture the human being, and make him envious, greedy or in¬si¬dious.
Machiavelli - one of the few figures of the Renaissance, who in his writings raised the question about the role of the leader’s personality. He believed, basing on the realities of his day Italy, which suffered from feudal fragmentation, that it is better to have strong prince at the head of the unified sovereign country, even if he has no remorse; than com¬pe¬ting specific rulers.
Machiavelli in his writings on the place of religious dogmas placed the man. According to him, all the processes which are taking place in the society and, consequently, in the country as its main political institution, are determined by the human nature (instincts), or the human mind.
Moreover, Machiavelli indicated the presence of certain dependence between the social structure of society and form of government. Machiavelli set the ancient valor against Christian humility. The last he considered something evil, that makes the world become weak and give it to the power of unopposed villains. Thus, Machiavelli gave a psy¬cho¬lo¬gi¬cally reasoned response to the question of relationship between moral norms and political expediency.
However, it should be noted, that Machiavelli wasn’t the first who spoke about the social contradictions as one of the main element of society. Before him, it was indicated by Plato and Aristotle, but he was the first of European non-ancient thinkers who attempted to link the processes taking place both in the society and its political system.
