In South Africa, the use of stabilizing agents in road construction has been in practice for some years. The prov-ince of KwaZulu Natal, in South Africa is currently undergoing some road rehabilitation projects with the investi-gation of properties of lime stabilized soil-the pH value being one of the necessities to understand the behavior of the soil. In this study, six selected soil samples of different pH scales were used and the effects of the lime stabilizer on the pH values were determined in the laboratory. The percentage of lime used in the samples varied from 2%, 4%, 6%, 8% to 10% by weight method of the soil samples that were tested. From the analysis carried out, it was found that the treatment of the samples with lime content changed the pH of the samples from acidic to alkaline and the value increased with increasing lime content for all the samples. For examples the pH value for sample one changed from 3.94 to 4.02, sample two changed from 4.54 at 4.92, Sample three changed from 4.50 at 5.22, sample four changed from 8.95 to 9.20, sample five changed from 8.05 at 8.27 and sample six from 8.34 at 8.68 on average lime. The changes were as a result of the changes in the chemical properties and the composition of the samples due to their chemical reactions with lime additive.

Soy polymer was extracted from soybean [Glycine Mac-L] and used in studying the corrosion inhibition of mild steel in 2 molar mass solution of hydrochloric acid and compared with the corrosion inhibition properties of poly [vinyl pyrrolidone] in the same acidic medium, using hydrogen evolution method at temperature range of 25-60OC and inhibitor concentration range of 0.01-0.2g/mol. The result of the study shows that soy polymer has higher inhibition efficiency than poly [vinyl pyrrolidone] PVP. The corrosion rate decreased with increasing concentration of soy polymer and PVP while the inhibition efficiency [%1] of both decreased with increased in temperature. The highest value of activation energy obtained with the inhibitors was 62.8kj/mol which supports the mechanism of physical adsorption since it is less than 80.0kj/mol. The negative values of free energy of adsorption ∆Gasd which ranged from – 8.1 to - 3.6 at 60OC and – 17.5 to – 8.7 kj/mol at 25OC suggest spontaneous adsorption. The inhibitors were found to obey Freundlich adsorption isotherm. The soy polymer is more environmentally friendly and more corrosion inhibitive than poly [vinyl pyrrolidone].

Fiber wireless access (FiWi) network is a category of hybrid network, which cumulates the advantages of optical network and wireless network at frontend and backend respectively. FiWi is one of those networks which are ca-pable of providing high bandwidth as well as great flexibility. In today’s world of high speed applications demand of spectrum is increasing rapidly, hence it becomes critically important to utilized available bandwidth efficiently. Therefore, many dynamic bandwidth allocation (DBA) algorithms have been proposed in recent years for FiWi network which can improve the utilization of bandwidth. DBA algorithms can be classified as DBA at PON, DBA at wireless and hybrid DBA depending upon the implementation of DBA at backend or frontend or both respectively. In this paper, a detail study of DBA at frontend and backend is done; separately as well as simultaneously. Considering bandwidth utilization as most important parameter, its literature and brief explanation is also provided. DBA algorithms are generally categorized in three types of services i.e. limited service DBA, fixed service DBA and gated service DBA. Simulation of these services of DBA is also done in the paper which helps us to analyze the effectiveness of different DBA services by comparing them to each other.

A current-mode Kerwin-Huelsman-Newcomb (KHN) filter circuit based on differential voltage current-controlled conveyor transconductance amplifier (DVCCCTA) is presented. Second order low pass, high pass and band pass functions are realized. In the proposed circuit, three DVCCCTAs along with two NMOS-resistors and two capaci-tors are used. 0.25µm TSMC technology parameters are used. PSPICE software package is used in the simulation work.

Polymer blending is one of the fascinating methods for polymer modification. In order to decrease the wear and to develop a material for high strength tribo-mechanical applications, we want to investigate what will be the me-chanical and tribological performances of these reinforced polymer blend composites.POM based homopolymer composites are very good as per the study of mechanical applications. POM based polymer blend reinforced with the short fibers is an interesting area of the research work. In this connection, we selected 70 % (POM + PTFE blend) as polymer matrix and up to 30 % wt. short glass fibers as reinforcements. In thispaper, we are discussing only on the mechanical properties.

Increasing competitiveness, gaining greater productivity and better quality have been attained by increasing the performance of machine tools and of machining process. Machining processes such as milling, drilling, turning etc. which are characterized by interrupted cutting are often susceptible to problems involving vibration of the machine-tool and work piece fixation system because of the proximity between their natural frequency harmonics and the frequency of tool entry on the work piece. The vibrations analysis has long been used for the detection and identification of the cutter condition. The purpose of this work is to investigate the healthiness of the milling cutter with vibration analysis by using FFT analyzer. Experimentation is carried on the column and knee type of horizontal milling machine by placing the accelerometer with magnetic attachment at three positions of machine viz. Cutter end, Motor driven end and Motor nondriven end. It is observed that the velocity amplitude is significantly varied compared with the displacement and acceleration amplitudes. Amplitudes at the cutter end signify the health monitoring of cutter compared with the remaining positions like Motor driven end and Motor nondriven end because the amplitudes at the remaining two ends are significantly unconcluded. Subcritical at the cutter end position with low frequency range of top ten peak amplitudes represents the faultiness of the milling cutter. From the experimental results, it was concluded that the cutter end position is the best location to identify the health condition of the milling cutter.
