Lower incisor extraction is a treatment regime since decades with its own advocates and opponents. Even though many pioneers and legends support lower incisor extraction therapy, there is still a dilemma in the orthodontic community which might be due to the fear of certain disadvantages such as formation of black triangles, midline discrepancy, loss of canine guidance, decrease in intercanine width and bite deepening. But proper case selection, treatment planning and treatment mechanics will produce stable and good results with lower incisor extraction therapy. In this article we are illustrating the specific indications of lower incisor extraction with the help of treated cases.

Oral piercing is an emerging trend among the youth in the present times. It is a popular yet bizarre method of body art and is considered a way to display one’s cool personality. The piercing procedure is often painful and carries several complications of the oral tissues such as profuse bleeding, damage to the nerves and vital structures, infections, dislodgement and aspiration of the jewelry and chances of chocking. Dental practitioners are encountering increasing number of cases with various oral and dental complications of this practice. Thus, a comprehensive information about the possible risks and their management is the need of the hour.

This study aimed to compare the cyclic fatigue fracture resistance of different rotary NiTi file systems. Hero shaper rotary file, one shape rotary file and a new rotary file system profile vortex were tested. The cyclic fatigue testing was conducted using a simulated root canal apparatus with an angle of curvature 60⁰and radius of curvature of 5mm.Total sample size of 30 rotary files (10 files in each experimental group) were selected for the study. The files were rotated at 400 rpm using the triauto mini endomotor set at 2.5N/cm torque, until fracture occurred. The time until fracture was recorded in seconds by using a digital stopwatch, and the number of rotations till fracture was then calculated using a mathematical formula. The results were then statistically analysed. Profile vortex (Group 3) was found superior as compared to one shape (Group 2) and hero shaper (Group 1) endodontic rotary NiTi file system in cyclic fatigue testing.

Aim: The aim of this study was to assess the influence of Proanthocyanidin (PA) application on bond strength of glass fiber posts to root canal dentin using self-etch adhesive luting system. Materials and Methods: Twenty single rooted mandibular premolars, freshly extracted for orthodontic purpose, were decoronated below the cementoenamel junction, and standardized to 14mm in length. Post space preparation was done upto No 3 Peeso reamer during which canals were irrigated with conventional irrigation protocol. Teeth were randomly divided into two groups (n=20 each) Group 1: Pre-treatment with PA and Group 2 served as the control group. Both Groups were restored with fiber posts bonded with RELYX U200 self-etch adhesive system. Teeth were then stored in distilled water for three months at 37° C. One mm slices were obtained and push-out bond strength testing was performed. Failure patterns were assessed under stereomicroscope at 20x magnification. Results: Individual bond strength values were calculated and statistically analysed with the chi-square test and independent-t-test. A statistically significant difference existed between the two Groups (p <0.001) with Group 1 showing a mean bond strength value greater than Group 2. Conclusion: Pretreatment with PA preserves the bond strength of fiber posts to root dentin bonded with a self-etch adhesive system. The results indicate that PA can be used as a biocompatible pretreatment alternative to improve bond strength stability of dentin-adhesive interfaces in root canals.

Orthodontic tooth movement of total blocked-out incisor is usually difficult as it is related with the problems of severe crowding, midline deviation, gingival recession and involvement of root resorption. A case report was presented to illustrate the treatment principles. It demonstrated with careful planning in non-extraction sequence and orthodontic mechanics to deliver light, controlled force, condition of totally blocked out incisor could be corrected with good results.

The loss of teeth invariably is followed by the loss of soft tissue. This article elaborates the process of Andrews bridge fabrication for missing 31,32,33,41,42,43 with natural teeth as abutments for its fixed component and a soft liner based removable component. There are many recent advances in aesthetic dentistry techniques and materials, still certain cases remain difficult to restore. Main advantage of an Andrews's bridge over fixed prosthesis is that it can be removed by the patient for improved oral hygiene access.

In the root canal system, infection of the pulp tissue caused by caries or other pathways is the primary cause of apical periodontitis. The ultimate goal of the endodontic treatment is to create adequate conditions for periradicular tissue healing. Nonsurgical endodontic treatment is a highly predictable treatment option in most cases, but surgery may be indicated for teeth with persistent periradicular pathosis unresponsive to nonsurgical approaches. The aim of this article is to highlight the possibility of the successful outcome of surgical endodontic treatment following failed non surgical treatment of right maxillary central incisor. With proper case selection and operator skill, periradicular surgery can be considered predictable, cost effective alternative to tooth extraction and tooth replacement.
