Examining of Middle School Students Leisure Choice According to Gender

The purpose of this research is to examine the free time preference according to their gender of middle school students. Total 151 middle school students participated in the study Tarsus district. Free time choice questionnaire, developed by Tel (2007), was used to determine the free time of the students. Frequency and chi-square analysis was used for statistical analysis of the data obtained at SPSS 22.0 software. At the end of the study, it was found that some free time preferences wasn’t significant difference statistically by gender such as “Dealing with nothing, rest”, “Books, newspapers, magazines read”, “Listening to music or playing a musical instrument”, “TV, video monitoring”, “Going to the cinema or the theater”, “To participate in social and cultural activities”, “Spend time with family”, “Go to neighbors or relatives”, “Chatting with friends”, “Go to the cafeteria or coffee shop”, “Deal with Hobbies” (p>0.05). Whereas, it was found that some free time preferences was significant difference statistically by gender such as “Visit bazaar or shopping”, “Sports do or watch sports competitions”, “Spending time on the internet (for chat, game or hobby)” and “Go hunting (hunting land and water)” (p<0.05).
