Trigeminal neuralgia has been described as one of the most painful conditions known toman kind. It is a unilateral disorder characterized by brief electric shock like pain episodes which are abrupt in onset and termination limited to the distribution of one or more divisions of the trigeminal nerve. Pain is cardinal symptom of TGN which indicates provocation of vātadoṣa. Case history: In July 2018, a 66 years old female patient having complaint of pain on left side of face especially during eating hard items and speaking difficulty since 12 years and diagnosed for Trigeminal neuralgia of left side. Materials and methods: Agnikarma on the face was done every day after virecana (in IPD) with Arka Patra. Results: Pain reduced to 4 earlier which were 9 assessed by Visual Analogue Scale (VAS) Score shows significant improvement. Discussion: Pain is an entity caused mainly due to vitiation of vātadoṣa. Agnikarma acts directly on vata- kaphadosha mitigating the causative factor of pain. Thus, pain is reduced significantly with lowest recurrence rates.

Vatakantaka (Calcaneal Spur) is the most common form of heel pain. Calcaneal spur is a small osteophyte located on the heel bone (Calcaneus). It is most irritating and usually affects middle aged women. Vatakantaka is a condition caused by vitiated Vata and Kapha. When a foot bone is constantly exposed to stress; small osteophytes forms in the form of calcium deposits at the bottom of the heel bone leads to the condition called Vatakantaka (Calcaneal spur). Acharya Sushruta has mentioned Agnikarma procedure in the management Vatakantaka. So in this study we had used only Agnikarma treatment till satisfactory relief from pain was obtained. The patient was given 3 settings of Agnikarma therapy at the interval of 5 days and the patient got relief from symptoms. Follow-up was taken to observe further recurrence for the next 1 month.

All the ayurvedic concepts have their unique importance. The fundamental elements of Ayurveda are tridoshas. They are responsible for health in balanced condition and in imbalanced condition for diseases formation. Gati means movement and the word Doshagati implies movement of Doshas. Doshagati is a condition characterized by variation in the sites of Doshas. Doshagati occurs in Roga-Marga (pathway of diseases) which includes Shakha (Shariradhatus or body tissues excluding the rasa dhatu or plasma and including the twak or skin), Koshtha (hollow organs and cavernous spaces or cavities of body) and Marma (vital organs). The Gati of Dosha can only be accessed on the basis of signs and symptoms observed during Shatakriyakala (six stages of pathogenesis). This review of literature highlights the importance of shakhagati in pathogenesis of skin diseases which is helpful in clinical studies.

‘Psychoneuroimmunology’ is the term that defines about the study of the interaction among psychological process, nervous system and the immune system of the body. Though it seems to be a relatively new concept for the modern psychologists, it’s roots are deeply embedded in the age old science of Ayurved. Purpose: To explore this concept in light of modern and ancient principles of relationship among psyche (man, chitta, gahantam bhawanayein and manovrrattiyan), neurology (buddhi vaisheshik, type of pitta, saadhak pitta) and immune system (deha). Material & Method: It was clearly said in the paper that it is not a comparative study. Rather it is only an effort to understand the concept better. The idea occurred as the author felt the need to get rid of many physical and mental stresses which are the products of urbanized lifestyles. Immunity of body and health of psyche are being affected very commonly in today’s era. Varied neurological disorders are also on the rise. To understand or to explore the basic modern physiology was taken into account. The authentic textbooks of Ayurveda were also consulted. Conclusion: Mind, body and soul are independent subjects for understanding. In fact, these are interdependent and affect each other’s working. The modern concept of psychoneuroimmunology also works upon the same principles. It is also a truth that with the help of biochemistry, the contemporary science has detailed the topic with description about neurotransmitters, extracting knowledge about specific proteins etc. It was established that priority may be given to the counseling aspect of the problem rather than to go only for pharmaceutical method.

Tail Bindu Mutra Pariksha is a diagnostic tool of urine examination in Ayurveda. Tail Bindu Mutra Pariksha helps to decide prognosis of disease. It tells about Sadhyasadhyatva of disease. Vitamin B12deficiency can manifest itself as anaemia. Anaemia is defined as a decrease in the amount of red blood cells or haemoglobin in the blood. According to Ayurveda, symptoms of anaemia can be compared with Pandu. It is Pitta dominant Tridoshaja Vyadhi. This study aims at using this ancient process to diagnose Sadhya -Asadhyatva in case of Vitamin B12 deficiency. Material & Method – 30patients of Vitamin B12 deficiency were selected randomly from Bharati Ayurved Hospital, Pune. Urine was collected in petri dish & Tila tail drop was dropped on it at the height of 1 cm. Observation-In all 30 urine samples Tail Bindu floats on urine. It spreads immediately. This indicates Sadhyatva of Vitamin B12 deficiency. In all 30 patients shape of Tail Bindu (oil drop) was remain unchanged that is Chhatrakar shape. It suggests the dominance of Pitta Dosha in Vitamin B12 deficiency. Conclusion- In Vitamin B12 deficiency Pitta Dosha is dominant. Vitamin B12 deficiency is a Sadhya condition.

‘Yoga’ is derived from Sanskrit word ‘Yuj’ which means ‘to join’ or ‘to yok’. Yoga is performed through some specific postures called Asana. Among the eight branches of Yoga, the yogic technique properly begins at the third branch that is the Asana. The word Asana is well known around the world for the yogic posture into which the whole science of Yoga is shrinking. Patanjali defines Asana as ‘Sthirasukhatvam” in Yogasutra which can be translated as stable and agreeable. The benefits of Asana range from physical to spiritual level. Asana helps the muscles, ligaments, joints and nerves of human body to maintains the smooth functioning and maintain health of the human body. “USTRASANA” was described as one of the 32 most important Asana in GherandaSamhita. Meaning of word Ustra is camel. In Ustrasana, the back is curved. The curved shape created in front side of the body look like a camel hump. In this article anatomical structures involved in the Ustrasana and how this involvement is beneficial in maintaining the health or in management of any disease is explained.

Polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS) is a condition in which woman has an imbalance of female sex hormones. This may lead to changes in the menstrual cycle, cyst in the ovary, failure to conceive and other health problems. PCOS is mainly observed in the age group of 12-45 years of age. There is no direct reference in Ayurveda for polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS). Causative factors results in vitiation of Dosha, Dushya and from this one can understand pathology of PCOS. It was observed that different Ahara, Vihara, Agantuja, Mansika Nidana (etiology), Prakruti (nature) and Sthana (site) influences the Samprapti (pathophysiology) of Artavakshaya. In Artava kshaya, due consideration has been given to menstrual and ovulatory aspects of the disease. So it can be correlated to the symptoms of PCOS.

Arti- Vedana-Shool i e pain is main manifestation of unhealth or disease. The meaning of shool as type of pratikool Vedana i.e. distressing sensation or pain. Vata is the main causative factor in all shool. Chikitsa of the shool is depend on the dosha involvement and nature of the disease. Panchakarma is the quickest & effective treatment in ayurveda to get rid of shool irrespective of disease. By doing vatashaman with different panchakarma treatment like vaman, basti nasya, katibasti, janubasti ect, the patient get early relief from the pain. The present article is an attempt to describe the pain management with different panchaklarmachikitsa.

Darunaka is a common scalp disorder affecting more than half of the world population. Different kinds of antidandruff products are available in the market and modern pharmaceutical companies are spending millions of dollars each year for introducing new antidandruff products. But most of the time many of these products are not economical, less efficacy, and has high reoccurrence rate. Different remedies are mentioned in our classics for the prevention and curative aspects of Darunaka. DarunakaroganashakaArka is Arka prepared out of Haritaki, Amrabeejamajja and Ksheera mentioned in Arkaprakasha for the treatment of Darunaka. Arka is a liquid preparation prepared by distilling the drug using Arkayantra or by modern distillation apparatus. The first historical references of Arkakalpana was available in Ravanas Arkaprakasha,where he include it under Panchavidha Kalpanas. Arka is considered as more potent than other kalpanas where the volatile content of a drug is extracted. The physicochemical analysis of Darunakaroganashakaarka was found to be at the standard limit.

Panchavidhakashayakalpana is the primary kalpana. Dasamoolakatutrayamkashayam is one among them which is indicated in swasa, kasa and parswasoola. Respiratory diseases are more common in children.Due to the unpleasant taste, children find it difficult to takekashaya. Sarkarakalpana is one among the secondary kalpana which is palatable and has more shelf life. Dasamoolakatutrayamkashaya is modified into syrup /sarkara which is palatable to children. Kashayakalpana can be easily modified into syrup form by adding sugar. Hence in the present study the modification of kashaya to syrup and comparing its physicochemical characteristics was done. The pharmaceutical preparation ofthe syrup was easy and it has similar analytical value compared to API standards

Herbo-mineral formulations are efficient amongst them when administered in proper dose and with suitable adjuvant. They are known in clinical practices for their lesser dose and quicker action. Tribhuvana Keerti Rasais one such herbo-mineral formulations used predominantly in all parts of the country other than Kerala. It is indicated in Sannipataja and all other types of Jwara. On the contrary, in Kerala, Vettuamaran Gulika is preferred for the management of Jwara. Interesting fact is that the prominent Rasa ingredients of the two formulations are same and both are clearly indicated in Sannipataja Jwara. Therefore, to highlight and distinguish the pharmaceutical aspects of both the formulation, the present study was planned.

Amavata is a disease caused due to the vitiation or aggravation of Vata associated with Ama. Vitiated Vata circulates the Ama all over the body through Dhamanis, takes shelter in the Kapha Sthana (Amashaya, Sandhi, etc.) producing symptoms such as stiffness, swelling etc. in the joints, making a person lame. Shodhana therapies are unique therapies of Ayurveda, where Doshas are the fundamental cause for the disease, are expelled out of the body. Rheumatoid Arthritis has lot of similarities with Amavata.Vamana is best in Kaphaja Dosha, Pitta Samsrusta Kapha and in Sleshmasthanagata Dosha. In Amavata, Sandhi is affected, which is a Kapha Sthana. Langhana is mentioned as a line of treatment for Amavata, Vamana is considered as shodhana variety of Langhana according to Acharya Caraka. In this study, 20 patients diagnosed with Amavata were selected and subjected for Vamana Karma with Kalingadi Yoga. Prior to that, Deepana and Pachana was done followed by Snehapana with Shunti Dhanyaka Ghrita. The outcome showed significant result.

Virechana is one of the Shodhana procedures explained in Ayurveda Classics for the expulsion of vitiated Pitta Dosha, where morbid Doshas are expelled out through Adhomarga. Psoriasis is defined as chronic skin disorder in which red scaly plaques, with sharply defined borders appear on the body surface. It is a very common disease which affects 1-2% of population in all geographical regions. Most of the skin disorders are explained in Ayurveda under the title of Kushta. Psoriasis can be correlated to any type of Kushta based on its presenting symptom like – Kitibha, Mandala or Eka Kushta. Since Kushta is a Tridoshaja Vyadhi and a Twak Vikara, Virechana is said to be one of the best lines of management. In this clinical study, 20 patients diagnosed with Psoriasis were subjected to Virechana Karma with Trivrutadi Yoga as per classics with all the necessary Purva Karma and Paschat Karma. The outcome was found to be statistically significant when assessed by PASI score before treatment and after follow up.

Arka Kalpanais the secondary preparation explained in BhaishajyaKalpana, but according to Arka Prakashait is considered one among thePanchavidhaKashayaKalpanaand is said to be the most potent.Arka is a unique preparation in which the water soluble active principles from herbal drugs are extracted through distillation method. TrikatuArka is one among Arka preparation explained in the text Arka Prakasha.It is indicated in Kaphajanyaroga (Diseases of Kaphadosha), Gulmaroga(Tumour), Medhoroga (Hyperlipidaemia), Sthoulya (Obesity), Shleepada (Filiarisis) and Pinasa(Chronic cold). In the preparation of Arka the ratio of water varies based on the hardnessand form of the drug. In this study an attempt has been made to prepare Trikatu Arka in two different ratios i.e., 1:10 and 1:2 to understand the difference in pharmaceutical changes and analytical parameters.

Ayurveda science is for both healthy as well as diseased person. In daily practice of Ayurveda medicine and Panchakarma, it has been observed that patients having musculo- skeletal disorders like Sandhivata; Amavata etc. come frequently for Ayurveda management. But ancient Acharayas have explained this science for each and every disease condition including skin ailments. While treating Kushtha, all three types of treatment viz., Daivavyapashraya, Yuktivyapashrayaand and Satvavajayachikitsa are to be followed. Acharyas have prescribed Vamana once in 15 days, Sramsana once in a month, Raktamokshana once in 6 months and Nasyaonce in 3 days. All Acharya’s have emphasized on Shodhana therapy in the management of Kushtha. The disease is difficult to cure hence called ‘Duschikitsya’ but by the application of shodhana therapy, cure of the diseases becomes easier and complete cure is possible. Hence Shodhana has great importance in Bahudoshaavastha. Here, Shaman chikitsa and proper use of Rasayan chikitsa of 63 year Female patient of Kshudra Kushtha is treated by considering the treatment principle of Kushtha and patient showed good improvement in all clinical signs and symptoms.

In Ayurveda, Skin diseases are described under the headings of Kushtha and all types of Kustha has been considered as Raktavaha srotodushtijanya vikara and Tridoshjanya origin. Vicharchika is one of the disease mentioned in ancient science among the Kushtha.The present study was completed to evaluate the efficacy of Kajjali Lep with Katu Tailamon Vicharchikafor local application. Patients suffering from Vicharchikain between the age group of 15-70 years having signs and symptoms on the basis of diagnostic criteria were selected. Around 30 patients were examined in which 24 Patient fulfilling diagnostic criteria and inclusion criteria were selected. All drug shows Vatkaphahara Karma, Krmighna, Kushtaghna and Kandughna action. And also due to laghu and ruksh guna helps to minimize the Srava and Kandu. Topical drugs also enhance the skin metabolism, so healthy repairing may also take place. Katu tailam which are also useful for cutaneous absorption by his Vatkaphaghna properties. So all actions are favorable to break the etiopathogenesis of skin.

Durvadi kera taila is an Ayurvedic medicated oil described in Sahasrayoga, taila prakarana which is indicated in Vrana roga. When a topical application in the form of taila is carried around and applied, it gets difficult to apply and there are chances of spilling which makes it uncomfortable. So it will be beneficial if it can be converted to one suitable form of ointment, which will be patient friendly and easily transportable. The taila was initially prepared classically and it was further modified into the form of ointment. The Durvadi kera taila was modified into Durvadi ointment by adding bee’s wax and petroleum jelly as bases. And the physico chemical parameters of the taila were compared with those of ointment. Both Durvadi ointment and Durvadi kera taila had almost similar results, which showed that there is no change in physicochemical profile when a taila is modified into ointment form. So, Durvadi ointment can be more advantageous when compared to Durvadi kera taila.

Oligoasthenoteratozoospermia (OAT) is a condition that incorporates oligozoospermia (low number of sperm), asthenozoospermia (poor sperm development), and teratozoospermia (strange sperm shape). Semen can be corresponded to Shukra in Ayurveda and Oligoasthenozoospermia can be considered as a condition in which Shukradhatu is quantitatively and subjectively spoil down. Panchakarma treatments have been kept in incomparable worship by the traditional experts of Ayurveda in improving different assortments of Shukradushti. A male patient aged 28 years with UHID no. 226037 admitted in IPD of All India Institute of Ayurveda, New Delhi with chief complaints of reddish colored semen, acidity, generalized weakness, and early ejaculation. His semen analysis report showed semen color pink to reddish, total count 20 million/ml, 30% normal sperms, 40% actively motile and 40 % sluggish motile sperms and R.B.C. 20-25/HPF. Virechanakarma was carried out as per classic method. After treatment there was significant relief in subjective symptoms & semen analysis report was pretty satisfactory. This case study encourages us to step in further.

Psoriasis (Ekakushtha) is non-infectious chronic inflammatory disease of skin characterized by well-defined erythematous plaques with silvery scale which have a predilection for extensor surface and scalp. The disease not only affects the patient physically but also disturbs the mental and social health of the patient. The disorder may affect people of any age, but it most commonly begins at the age of 15 to 40 years. In modern medicine the cure of this disease is out of question as the cause is unknown. Ayurveda propounds a holistic treatment approach for psoriasis. The present case study is upon a 17 year old male patient with complaints of well demarcated raised scaling patches on scalp and other parts of body with itching since 1 years. There was positive Candle grease sign, Auspitz sign. On the basis of this clinical presentation diagnosis of psoriasis was made which can be correlated as Ekakushtha in Ayurveda. The patient was treated with Virechana therapy followed by Oral medications. The therapies yielded marked improvement in all the sign and symptoms of psoriasis including Candle grease sign, Auspitz sign and pasi scale. On the basis of the results obtained it can be concluded that Virechana karma along with oral medication as Shaman therapy from Ayurveda can be used as effective treatment in the management of psoriasis.

Amavata (Rheumatoid arthritis) is a painful, systemic disease involving multiple joints. The chief elements are Ama and Vata which concurrently affect the joints and causes stiffness of the joints. The clinical features of Amavata resembles closely with Rheumatoid arthritis. The condition is managed by DMARDs (Disease Modifying Anti-rheumatic drugs) and corticosteroids, but still remains a challenging problem to the medical field as it doesn’t completely cure the disease. Ayurveda has a given a detailed description regarding the management of Amavata which includes Langhana (Fasting), Swedana (Sudation), Deepana (appetizing) with Tikta (bitter)– Katu (spicy) Rasa, Virechana (Therapeutic purgation) & Vaitaran Basti (enema). A case of Amavata management by combined interventions included internal medications with Sinhnad Guggulu, Vishtinduk Vati, Rasnadi chruna with Sameerpannag rasa & Guduchi Ghanvati. Externally with Valuka Sweda, Nadi Sweda and Virechana (Therapeutic purgation) with Moorchita ErandaTaila & Vaitaran Basti. Investigations showed CRP & ASO positive &RA- Positive. Ayurveda treatment was given to this patient for 21 days. After 21 days of treatment CRP, ASO& RA were negative and symptoms were reduced.

From the concept of Rasashastra (Iatro-chemistry) “there is nothing in this world that can empower the empirical body with longevity other than parada (Mercury)”. There are many formulation which contain rasa and loha (minerals and metals)as ingredient which on administration shows its therapeutic effect. Apart from this, it may also cause some adverse effect due to certain factors such as improper processing, inadequate processing and not following the regimen in right way (pathya-apathya). This adverse effect is called as rasaajeerna and lohaajeerna in Ayurveda. The toxic symptoms produced can be eliminated using certain antidotes mentioned in our classics, for example Swarna Bhasma (Nanoparticles of Gold) and Haritaki Churna( Fine powder of Terminalia chebula) mixed with sugar can be given for 3 days to nullify the toxicity caused by improperly purified naga (lead).Ayurvedic chelating drugs and medication have the potential to detoxify metal toxicity without losing the essential minerals from our body and thus help to cure rasaajeerna and lohaajeerna.

ADHD is a disease of Manas and Manovahi Srotasa. It is estimated that about 50 million people have either moderate or severe forms of psychiatric disorders in India. Being a commonest neurobehavioral disorder of childhood, Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder comprises perhaps 50% of referrals to child neurologists, behavioural pediatricians and child psychiatrists. Psycho stimulant drugs that are being used for the treatment are not fully safe as they can cause various unacceptable side effects and also they have potential for abuse and addiction. In Ayurvedic texts various drugs are described for treatments of various psychological and psychosomatic problems. As the prevalence and ill effects of this disease is high and there is lack of effective medications. Keeping this in consideration single drug yashtimadhu has been taken for the present study

Bhasmas are unique ayurvedic metallic/mineral preparations which are biologically produced nanoparticles which are mainly prescribed along with other medicines of Ayurveda. Kapardika (cowries/marine shell) is a mineral drug which is mentioned in Ayurveda classics. Kapardika is one of the important drugs used in Ayurveda in the form of bhasma. Kapardika bhasma which is prepared by treating with juice of Kumari (aloe vera) made it into pellets and subjected to certain quantum of heat as per Puta. Kapardika bhasma is an important ingredient of many ayurvedic formulations. The article is based on Shodhana of Kapardika, Marana of Kapardika followed by analytical study carried out by classical Bhasma pareeksha, organoleptic characteristics, selected physico-chemical parameters, and advanced instrumental methods like XRD, DLS and SEM. After analysis it is observed that Kapardika bhasma looked white with a smooth touch, nonspecific odour, and alkaline taste. Qualitative analysis showed the presence of calcium. .The major peaks observed clearly indicate calcite as the major phase (calcium carbonate with hexagonal structure under trigonal crystal system). Kapardika bhasma showed a crystallite size 72.70nm. SEM- EDAX showed the presence of Calcite crystals with hexagonal shape having size of 1.022 microns. In Kapardika bhasma90% particles size are observed about 472.1nm.

In clinical practice diagnosis of disease is a very important aspect. Its importance is underlined by the ancient scholars. In Ayurvedic classics there are various method described for the roga-rogi pariksha like Trividha pariksha, Dashvidha pariksha and Astasthana pariksha etc. The Taila Bindu Pariksha was described for the examination of urine to assess the prognosis as well as to diagnose the disease under Astasthana Pariksha. It is a costeffective and very simple technique. The test is performed with the help of Tila Taila and urine of the patient. The first morning sample of urine is taken in a clean round glass container (Petri dish) and a drop of the oil is gently poured over it and characteristics of the oil drop like direction of spread, speed of spread, final shape attained and time of split etc were noted down. The Taila Bindu Pariksha was very popular tool to access the prognosis of the diseases in the medieval period but it became obsolete with time. In the Ayurvedic text there are very few laboratory techniques described and the Taila Bindu Pariksha is one of them, so it is need of time to reestablish this age old technique in the benefit of mankind.

To achieve thesesaid goals,Ayurveda describedDinacharya (daily routine) in detail.These daily routine regimens have good physiological effects on appropriate functioning of the body system thereby maintaining a normal equilibrium of three doshas i.e. Vata, Pita and Kapha, SaptaDhatus (seven tissues), Mala(waste products of the body) and the Agni (power of digestion).Ayurvedic daily routine includes Snana (bath) every day in the morning after Abhyanga, Vyayama, Mardana and Udvartana. Its daily and sensible use is having a prime role in maintains of the health. But still, its importance and practical utility does not fully recognized. Hence efforts are made to explain Snanain detail as described in Ayurvedic literature.

BACKGROUND- Insulin dependent diabetes mellitus (IDDM) also known as type 1 diabetes occurs usually before 15 years of age, having utmost dependency over external insulin to normalize raised blood sugar. Diseases like diabetes are described in the Ayurvedic texts as a Prameha. The Sahaja Prameha is a type of Prameha and similarity of symptoms can be deemed near type 1 diabetes. METHOD- Research articles published in authentic journals were reviewed. Information about the diabetes and Sahaja prameha from the published books and the internet were also compiled to make a better outcome. RESULT – Herbs like Leucas cephalotes singly and combined effect of Nigella sativa and Cinnamomum cassia along with Gymnema sylvestre (Retz.), Ferula foetida (Bunge.), Allium sativam Linn. and Murraya koengii (L.) have been found for their glucose homeostatic action. Memordica charantia (Linn.) has shown pancreatic regeneration property, whereas Tinospora cordifolia has shown a good immune modulator action in their research studies. CONCLUSION –Insulin dependency, dose tolerance and late stage complications letting the researchers to move towards safe and effective treatment of IDDM. Evidenced based research studies are trying to create a better platform for efficient management of type 1 diabetes through Ayurveda.

Varicose eczema or Stasis dermatitis is a long-term skin condition that affects the lower legs. It is common in people with varicose veins as the valves in the leg veins do not work correctly. This circulatory problem can lead to backward flow and pooling of blood in the lower legs, resulting in increased pressure, blood leakage and cell death and it can end up with the symptoms of Varicose eczema. One such male patient aged 50 years, who is working as a waiter in hotel consulted OPD of SDM Ayurveda Hospital, Udupi for the complaints of skin lesions on left lower limb extending up to foot and ankle since 3 months. It was associated with oozing, itching and burning sensation. He was diagnosed as a case of Stasis dermatitis. The diagnosis was confirmed with left lower Limb venous Doppler study. The case was correlated to Vatarakta based on the similarity in etiopathology, symptomatology and total clinical presentation. After analysing nidana panchaka, Samprapthi vighatana was done on the basis of Vata rakta chikitsa. The vitiated vata and rakta were the focus of treatment. He was treated with Nitya Virecana, internal medications, external medications and Jaloukavacharana. Assessment was done before and after treatment with ‘Venous Clinical Severity Score’ and Photographs. Both showed the remarkable improvement after the treatment.

Sara Pariksha is one out of ten that gives an outlook of the strength, of Deha as well as Satva of a person. With the changing diet and lifestyle patterns, the bone diseases have evolved into a common health problem prevailing in all ages throughout the world. The proper diagnosis, screening, prevention and treatment becomes the essential part of its management. Bone strength is measured through different methods of calculating Bone Mineral Density either X ray or ultrasound based. The essence of Asthi Dhatu is considered as Asthi Sarata in the body depicting good tolerance power, active life & strong body. Asthi Sara has been selected to look for the techniques used for its assessment. These will be helpful in setting an objective parameter for the evaluation of the Asthi Sarata. Present study is accomplished to collect the different techniques used for the determination of Asthi Sara and generating some objectivity in its evaluation. The characters of Asthi Sara are comparable with the strength of bone, which is assessed through Bone density. The techniques of evaluating Bone mineral density is another way for the appraisal of subjective characters of Asthi Sara.

Background:VishaghnaGanaChakrika is an Ayurvedicherbal formulation which is used as Dhoopanaprocedure for anti-microbial effect. There are many formulations mentioned inAyurvedic classic texts which are either used single or combination with other drug, Acharya Charaka has explained 50 groups of 10 herbs each in Shad VirechanaShatashriteeyaAdhyaya. VishaghnaGana is one among them. Drugs which act against toxic substances are called as Vishaghna. It includes Haridra (Curcuma longa), Manjishtha (Rubiacordifolia), Suvahaa (Pluchealanceolata), Sookshamaelaa (Elettariacardamomum), Paalindee (Operculinaturpethum), Chandan (Santalum album), Kataka(Strychnospotatorum), Shireesha(Albizzialebbeck), Sinduvaara (Vitexnegundo), Shleshmaataka (Cordiadichotoma). With growing awareness of health care and safety aspects there has been an increase in demand for the Phyto-pharmaceutical products of Ayurveda. Aims: The present work was carried to analyse the Phyto chemical activity of Vishaghna Gana Chakrika. Methodology:VishaghnaGanaChakrikais prepared as per the classical reference of preparation of Chakrika. Drug was analysed for the following parameters like phytochemical test and High Performance Thin Layer Chromatography (HPTLC). Results: Phytochemical test revealed the presence of alkaloid, steroid, carbohydrate, tannin, resin, Quinone. HPTLC photo documentation, densitometric scan, Rfvalues are presented in respective tables and figures. Conclusion: On the basis of observations and experimental results of Vishaghna Gana Chakrikahas evaluated presence of alkaloids, steroids, carbohydrates, tannin, resin and quinonein it. This study may be used as standard protocol in the further quality control researches.

Syringomyelia is a chronic progressive degenerative disorder of spinal cord in which a cyst or cavity form within the spinal cord. This cyst known as syrinx it may be expand and elongate over time, destroying the spinal cord. The damage may result in loss of feeling, paralysis, weakness and stiffness in the back, shoulder and extremities. It may also lead to a cape-like bilateral loss of pain and temperature sensation along the upper chest and arms. These symptoms typically vary depending on the extent and often more critically on the location of the syrinx within the spinal cord. The sign and symptoms of syringomyelia can be correlate with Pangutvamentioned in Ayurvedic literature. If vitiated Vata at lumbar region is paralyse lower portion of the body and of both legs is called Pangutva.Vatahara Chikitsa, Brihana Chikitsa and Vatanulomak Chikitsashould be done in syringomyelia.

Background: Dhaturapatradi Taila is a Sneha Kalpana, indicated in shirogata kandu and Keshachyuti. In present study, it has been used for external application in Kesha Roga. Objective: Present study is aimed to look out on raw drug used in the preparation of Dhaturapatradi Taila and standardization of pharmacognostical, physicochemical parameters, HPTLC analysis and antimicrobial evaluation. Methods: Identification and authentication was done by pharmacognostical study i.e., Organoleptic characters and microscopy. Physicochemical evaluation, HPTLCanalysis and antimicrobial study were carried out for final product. Results: Microscopial charactersof Dhatura i.e. lamina, collenchymas and multicellular glandular head, prismatic crystal, rosette crystal, lower epidermis, vascular bundle, lignified xylem, anisocytic were found inpharmacognosy study. Physicochemical evaluation of medicated oil was showed results specific gravity 0.939, Ph 5.4, Refractive Index 1.487, Acid Value 1.5445, Saponification Value 202.43, and Iodine Value 109.98. High Performance Thin Layer Chromatography results in to 9 and 5 spots at 254nm and 366 nm before spray respectively. Significant anti fungal activity was obtained against the two funginamely, Aspergillus brasiliensis and Candida albicans. The medicated oil gave anti bacterial activity against Staphylococcus aureus. Conclusion: Identification, authentication of herbal drug used in the preparation and physicochemical evaluation has been carried out of prepared drug which is further useful for standardization of Dhaturapatradi Taila and other researches.

The aim of present study was to evaluate role of Ayurvedic formulation (TF-1) and Nityavirechana as Haritaki churna in management of essential hypertension. It was randomized, open label interventional study carried out at Arogyashala OPD and IPD, National Institute of Ayurveda, Jaipur.Ten patients in the age group of 18 to 60 years with stage -1 Essential Hypertension without any comorbid illness were included in study. Patients were treated with Ayurvedic Formulation TF-1 tablet(content- Arjun, Ashwagandha, Shankhapushpi, Jatamansi and Punarnava extract) 2tab (each tab- 500mg) two times in a day and NityaVirechana as Haritakichurna 5gm at bed time for 28 days. Blood pressure was monitored on subsequent follow up visit at the end of 1st , 2 nd, 3rd and 4th week. Change in subjective parameters and objective parameters like SBP, DBP, % relief were analyzed statistically by Wilcoxon matched paired signed ranks test and Anova test respectively. On end of first week %relief in SBP and DBP were 3.48 and 9.12 respectively.After 4th week of treatment there was statistically significant fall in SBP 20.97% and 23.32% relief in DBP. Ayurvedic formulation TF-1 offers an efficacious and safe combination available for treatment of essential hypertension

Background: The thyroid hormones are inevitable for development of the body and essential to regulate the metabolism. The diseased state of thyroid gland and its debilitating effects are very common conditions all over the world and it subvene most of the populations. The aim of the study was to evaluate the clinical efficacy of an Ayurvedic compound in the patients of Hyperthyroidism compared to conventional treatment in allopathic medicine system. National Institutes of Ayurveda (NIA), Jaipur conducts various research projects through their different department. A clinical project named “Clinical Evaluation of Efficacy of an Ayurvedic Compound in the Management of Borderline Hyperthyroidism” was approved and conducted through Kayachikitsa department of the institute in collaboration with Medicine unit of S.M.S. Medical College and Hospital, Jaipur. Method: This was a prospective, interventional and OPD level study in which 30 patients who met the following inclusion criteria: 1. Patients having clinical features without complications of Hyperthyroidism. 2. Presence of clinical features and relevant laboratory investigations related to hyperthyroidism, were randomly selected in three groups. The assessment of the results was done on the basis of amelioration in Subjective & Clinical parameters and laboratory findings during 2 months course of the treatment. Statistical method paired ‘t’ test was applied during the analysis of data. Results: During analysis it was observed that much better results were obtained in the patients of group C who were treated with Ayurvedic compound drug in combination with Anti thyroid drug (Neomercazole) than other group of patients. Conclusion: Significant clinical improvement was observed in most of signs and symptoms in all groups but improvement was more sound in group C where both Ayurvedic and Allopathic drug were taken. It encourages to scientist for taking responsibility to integrate Ayurvedic system of medicine with allopathic regime to cure such chronic diseases.

Genus Klebsiella accounts for various nosocomial infections especially urinary tract infections (UTI). Administration of antibiotics in order to manage the condition may help to resist the infection up to borderline. Here, propounding techniques such as culture and sensitivity to diagnose UTI and thereby antimicrobial susceptibility testing uplift current updated investigatory tools. Microorganisms are considered under concept of krimi in Ayurveda. Ayurveda drugs possessing ‘krimighna’ property are effective against microorganism, which is the need of the hour, as drug resistance is increasing towards many allopathic medicines. Therefore, it is necessary to establish antimicrobial activity of such drugs against pathogenic microorganisms before administering in patients. Gokshura, the drug one among the krimighna dashaimani is being reported as a good antibacterial drug. It was found that ethanolic extract of Gokshura, which is enriched with active phytochemical constituents, is capable of exerting antimicrobial activity. So the present paper is intended to prove the antibacterial action of Gokshura against Klebsiella pneumoniae by urine culture and sensitivity.

A diseased condition that arises in the body due to the development of at least 3 out of 5 or more biochemical and physiological abnormalities, like visceral adiposity, Hypertension, Dyslipidemia, Diabetes and Insulin resistance is often termed as Metabolic Syndrome. A person suffering from Metabolic Syndrome may develop Cardio Vascular Disease and Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus in future. Studies show that about 11% - 41% Indians and around 1 out of 4 adults worldwide have Metabolic Syndrome. Metabolic Syndrome increases a 3 fold risk of developing Myocardial Infarction or stroke and a 5 fold risk of developing type 2 Diabetes Mellitus. As far as morbidity and mortality is concerned Metabolic syndrome and Diabetes Mellitus are far ahead of HIV/AIDS. It has many synonyms, the most common beingSyndrome X and Insulin Resistance Syndrome. It may be caused due to fat rich diet, inactive life style, genetics, excessive alcohol, disrupted sleep, mood disorders, stress, overweight, increasing age etc. In Ayurveda, it can be symptomatically correlated with Santarpana Nimittaj Vikara (diseases due to over nutrition) described by Acharya Charaka. Modern medicine emphasizes on treating individual components of Metabolic Syndrome. On the other hand, Ayurveda believes in removal of the root cause by removing vitiated Doshas and cleansing congested Strotas (microchannel). Virechana Karma is an effective measure which helps in cleansing congested Strotas and removing vitiated doshas hence pacifying the symptoms of Metabolic Syndrome.

A careful medical examination of the patient is the first step in making diagnosis and proper management of the disease. Acharya Charaka also mentioned that a physician who can distinguish between curable and incurable diseases and initiates treatment in time with full knowledge about the various aspects of therapies can certainly accomplish his object of curing the disease. Patient’s examination in our ancient time includes not only about the details of the patient but also examination of life span of the patient, diseases, seasons, digestive fire, age, body physique, physical strength, mental power, habituations and land. Ancient Acharyas always focussed on various aspects like in which season the disease is occurring, doshik involvement in that season, whether the season is aggravating factor to the disease, to the patient’s prakriti or not, whether the patient is able to overcome the hazardous effects of the disease or get troubled by even minor symptoms of the disease. Vaya pariksha (examination of the age) is useful in determining the dose of the medicine to be administered. The digestive fire of the patient is also assessed so that selection of the correct dose of drug in a particular season which is suitable for the disease can be done. Examination of habituations is also essential as it defines the qualities of the medicine to be given to the patient at the particular season for the particular disease.

Background and Objectives: Gridhrasi is a disorder where the pain starts from Sphikpradesha and radiates downwards to kati, prushta, uru, janu, jangha and pada respectively. Gridhrasi (Sciatica) is more common among the age group of 20-70 years. Though, the disease is present in lower back and leg, it disturbs the daily routine and overall life of the patient. In the modern medicine administration of Muscle relaxants, NSAIDS, Corticosteroids, Physiotherapy etc. gives temporary relief from pain and at the end the last option left is surgery. Siravyadhana is mentioned in the Chikitsasutra of Gridhrasi. As Siravyadhana helps in relieving the Sangha, Avarana, Shotha and Vedana, It gives instantaneous and encouraging results in curing the disease. In this study we are evaluating the Efficacy of Siravyadhana with or without Sadyosnehana in the management of Gridhrasi. Methods: It is an Open label, double arm and randomized prospective comparative clinical study, where 30 subjects who are fulfilling the diagnostic and inclusion criteria was selected and randomly divided into two groups comprising of 15 patients each in one group. One group was subjected to Siravyadhana with Sadyosnehana and in other group Siravyadhana without Sadyosnehana was performed. All subjects completed the treatment. Results:Treatment was found to be statistically significant in attaining encouraging results with respect to subjective and objective parameters in both the groups.(p<0.05 was observed) Interpretation and Conclusion: Even though Siravyadhana with Sadyosnehana had better effect on Ruk, Stamba and Standing time but in all other Parameters it had equal results with Siravyadhana without Sadyosnehana.

Title: A Clinical study to evaluate the efficacy of VarunadiksheeragrithaNasya in Ardhavabhedakaw.s.r to Migraine. Background and Object: Ardhavabhedaka is a type of Shiriroga with the cardinal feature of unilateral headache,which when left untreated may develop complications like blindness and deafness. This disease can be correlated to Migraine based on the clinical manifestations. Varunadiksheeragritha has been chosen as a trail drug which was administered in the form of nasya. Materials and Method: 20 therapeutic participants of Ardhavabhedaka/Migraine were selected from the IPD and OPD of SDM Ayurveda hospital Udupi. Patients were subjected to Nasya as per the procedure mentioned in classics. Sthanikaabhyanga and Swedana were done as Poorvakarma, Dhoomapana and Kavala were performed as Paschat karma. Results: Data was tabulated and analyzed by using Wilcoxon signed rank test, which showed moderate improvement in Ardhavabhedaka. Conclusion: This clinical trial proved significant effect in Ardhavabhedaka/Migraine.

An open labeled clinical study to evaluate the efficacy of unmadagajankusha rasa and shastika shalipinda sweda in post stroke depression w.s.r to margavaranajanyaunmada Objective: To evaluate the efficacy of Unmadagajankusha rasa and Shashtika Shalipinda Sweda in Post Stroke Depression/Margavarnajanya Unmada. Methodology: An open labelled clinical study with pre and post-test design. 20 patients diagnosed as post stroke depression were selected from Shri Dharmasthala Manjunatheswara Hospital of Ayurveda, Udupi, Karnataka were subjected with Shastika shali Pinda Sweda for 7 days and Unmadagajankusha Rasa in 250mg BD with usna jala for a period of 28 days. Outcome was assessed before and after intervention using NIH stroke scale and Hamilton’s rate of depression scale which were primary outcome measures, and secondary outcome measures were manasikabhava pariksha scale, manasika bhava scale which includes positive and negative emotions. All the parameters were statistically analysed with Wilcoxon signed rank test. Result: Statistically significant results were found in all parameters with p value <0.001.Conclusion: Shastika Shali PindaSweda and Unmada Gajaankusha Rasa a herbo-mineral formulation is effective in reducing the depressive features and in functional loss of the body. The efficacy of the medication has been proved with the statistical analysis of the parameters.

Women need extreme care during postpartum period as they are going through a physically and mentally delicate stage. In Ayurveda this period is referred as sutikakala. The basic services and special care for the mother during that period is called sutikaparicharya. It is about six to eight weeks as per modern medicine and 1½ months as per Ayurveda, which may exceed up to six months in some cases. Vata dosha gets deranged due to the expulsion of foetus, loss of blood and fluids during delivery which leads to deprivation of tissue elements (dhatukshaya) and immunity of the mother. The special diet prescribed for the mother mainly focuses on alleviation of vata, proper digestion, regular bowel evacuation and nourishment of the tissue elements. From time immemorial, as per tradition and advice of midwives, care takers and elders, women in Kerala during postpartum period eat traditional food preparations having the above qualities. Here we try to explore qualities of such food preparations such as uluva paalkanji (fenugreek gruel), fried moringa (drumstick) leaves and kudangal (Indian pennywort) pudding, popular among women of Kerala and traditionally consumed during postpartum period. The quality such as galactogogue, anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, antibacterial properties are highlighted in their order of importance.

PURPOSE OF THE RESEARCH: It is very essential to make people understand the importance of diet, the right time and the way to have Aahar as it is the most integral part of life & its imbalance is the major cause in Vyadhi Samprapti. Pathya Aahar along with Shitali Pranayam plays an effective role in Amlapitta. Pranayam is not only useful for certain disease but also helps to stabilize all the systems/ doshas of the body. So keeping the view of this problem, current study was planned to develop a certain daily regime, along with Shitali Pranayam, which helped not only to reduce symptoms of disease, but also helped to analyse its effects on the body. METHODS: 85 registered UrdhvagAmlapitta subjects were selected for the study and screened for assessment criteria. For that purpose Sadya Aahar Vritta was taken along with CRF to understand diet pattern of each subject and advised changes accordingly. 60 subjects were included in study considering the inclusive and exclusive criteria, allocated into three groups randomly comprising of20 subjects each. GROUP A –Pathya Aahar GROUP B –Shitali Pranayam GROUP C –Pathya Aahar & Shitali Pranayam RESULT: Pathya Aahar in Urdhvag Amlapitta shows significant relief in Utklesha, Tiktamlodgar, Hrid Kantha Daha and Aruchi. Shitali Pranayam helped in reducing Shiroruja, Stress/Anxiety and percentage of sleep disturbances. CONCLUSION: After comparing the results of the three groups it was seen that Group of Pathya Aahar and Shitali Pranayam showed significant results both in subjective as well as objective parameters.

Ayurveda defines Hridaya as a multi-compartmental abode of Mana (Mind), Chetana (Consciousness) and root origin of Rasa-vaha and Prana-vaha srotas (channels). Previous studies consider it a matter of great difficulty to correlate Hridroga in Ayurveda and Cardiac disorders in contemporary medicine. But understanding and defining Hridaya in terms of its Sharira (anatomy and physiology) first, gives a clear picture of Hridroga in Ayurveda. It is a common understanding among everyone that, Ayurveda is insufficient or unreliable in acute conditions. But people fail to understand that the common cause of sufferings today leading to any acute disease or condition is the failure of maintenance of proper lifestyle and diet regimen. Similarly,major cardiac manifestations and their causes are defined in order to find out a way to prevent them, as Ayurveda suggests. Heart, being a marma (vital spot) must be saved from internal attack of doshas by Vata dominated aggravated doshas.

Mutraghata is one of the complicated and less understood term in Ayurvedic classics. Earlier, various authors have related various types of Mutraghata with various uropathies. Considering that into mind, this research work focuses on, “how and up to what extent, clinical conditions under Mutraghata are related to Bladder outlet obstruction (BOO)”. Bladder outlet obstruction (BOO) is a generic term for all forms of obstruction to the bladder outlet including benign prostatic obstruction (BPO). It is a urodynamic concept based on the combination of low flow rate, low voided volumes and high voiding pressure. For that, we have collected classical data mainly from Sushruta Samhita, Charaka Samhita, Ashtanga Hridaya and their commentaries by Dalhana, Chakrapani and Arundatta respectively. As per modern texts, details on Bladder outlet obstruction (BOO) have explained first. Only on the basis of clinical features and pathogenesis mentioned in our classical texts, correlation of clinical entities under Mutraghata with Bladder outlet obstruction (BOO) has established later.This research work concludes that clinical manifestations of Mutraghata are mainly confined to lower urinary tract system (LUTS).Clinical entities in Mutraghata are clinical manifestations of Bladder outlet obstruction due to mechanical blockage at the base of the bladder or malfunction of vesicoureteric coordination during act of micturition or functional failure due to neuro-deficit or muscular/detrusor instability. It stops or reduces urinary flow into urethra. Clinical entities under Mutraghata xcept Mutrateeta and Mutrashukra are correlated with Bladder outlet obstruction (BOO).

Objective: To study the effect of Yava Saktu and Yava-Chanaka Saktu in Grishma Ritu as Klamahara.Methods:60 healthy volunteers fulfilling the inclusion criteria in the age group of 17-35 years, of either sex were selected for the study and were randomly divided into three groups (Group A-Yava Saktu, GroupB-Yava-Chanaka Saktu and Group Cnon interventional)of each 20 healthy individuals. Group A was advised to take Yava Saktu, Group B-Yava-Chanaka Saktu once daily in the morning for a period of 15 days in particular on the onset of Summer Season (in this study 5th April 2018 onwards based on Grishma Kala Swarupa) and Group C used as control for the study. Results: A highly significant (p<0.001) improvement in almost all parameters; Arogya Lakshana, and Klama assessment parameters were seen. Conclusion: Yava-Chanaka Saktu is more palatable than Yava Saktu. Yava Saktu is potential ESR reducer along with a mild increase in Hb% was noted.

The ancient ayurvedic acharyahave used term rajonivrittifor menopause. Ayurvedconsiders that menopause is a natural condition inwomen’s life. It is not a disease.Acharya Sushruta said that menstrual cycle starts at 12 years of the age and stops at the age of 50 years. There is no information available regarding its purvarupa, rupa, Samprapti and nidana.This natural phenomenon was not described as a disease and the cause was the healthy diet and lifestyle of women. But now days we have to take the cognizance of menopause as lot of women are getting the symptoms. As this population is large enough, they require medical care for various symptoms. Hormonal replacement therapy (HRT) has lots of side effects, less tolerance and gynecologists also hesitate to prescribe. So it is mandatory to explore concept ofrajonivrutti(menopausal syndrome)mentioned in Ayurved and possible therapies. They haveleast or no adverse effects.
