In various Ayurvedic text ovarian cyst is co-related with Granthi Artav. As per their signs and symptoms Granthi Artav is kaph–vata in origin. Now a days in modern science many treatment are available for the management of this disease, but many times they are not able to eradicate root cause of disease, and therefore, recurrence occurs. Dietary advice has main role in Ayurvedic treatment. Ayurvedic drugs (substances) may provide maximum advantage with cost efficiency, least side effect and increased patient fulfillment. The main aim of this article is to explore the scientific basis for Ayurvedic treatment of Granthi Artav. Ayurveda gives lots of emphasis on Ahariya dravya. According to Acharya Kashypa, “In the whole universe there is no medicine like food”. Only a well balanced diet can cure numerous diseases. Sometimes good medicines are unable to cure certain disease without balance diet. That’s why food is said to be most important medicine. Improving diet and life style is a critical component to cure and prevent the present epidemic of life style associated disorder.

Ayurveda is the complete science of life. Ayurveda takes whole man physically as well as mentally in to account while describing the principle of treatment. In case of knee injury (RTA) ligament tear most common along with fracture. Healing is a natural and spontaneous phenomenon which occurs irrespective of (and sometimes despite) the doctor. In present study we are using conservative treatment of grade - I strain of the medial and lateral collateral ligament with knee joint effusion. Regular follow-up for 30 days. Although the basic events have been observed and the factors which initiate and control the process remain incompletely understood.

Ayurveda is ancient system of medicine and philosophy of life. It deals with physical, mental, and social health. In Ayurveda Swapna (sleep) is described as one of the co-pillars of life1 . According to ayurveda samhita sleep and food have same value2 . Insomnia is a common sleeping disorder in world. Itis also know a Disorder of initiation or maintenance of sleep (DIMS). Aims and Objectives: -To evaluate the role of Ashwagandhadi ghanwati and Mansyadi kwatha shirodhara in the management of anidra roga w.s.r. Insomnia. Material and Methods:- Twenty patients of Anidraroga were selected from OPD/ IPD level and single group. All twenty registered patients were administrated of ashwgandhadi ghanwati with milk and mansyadi kwatha shirodhara. Conclusion:- Modern medical science have many drugs to treatment of psychiatric disorder. Such as tranquilizers, sedative, antidepressant etc. and they have more side effects i.e. nausea, hypotension, depression and suicidal tendency etc.

Vitiligo is acquired, pigmantory, progressive disorder of the skin in which circumscribed depigmented patches develop. It involves focal area of melanocytes loss. Vitiligo as a disease of cosmetic problem has much psychosocial impression. However, it is not life threating or contagious. The rate and extent of colour loss is unpredictable. It affects all skin type but it may be more noticeable in darker skin. In ancient times, shivtra was considered as a social stigma, patients have no social acceptance. The success rate in management of this diseased condition by modern medicines is not significant. In present case study a twenty nine year old woman patient suffering with Vitiligo for four years was treated with Ayurvedic medicines. The patient was considered as suffering from shivtra and was treated with bakuchi Churna along with other formulations. This study shows that the cases of vitiligo can be successfully managed with Ayurvedic treatment only.

Prevalence of Sciatica is increasing very rapidly. Number of sciatica patients hitting the outpatient departments is noticeable. In severe conditions, patient was unable to stand or walk leading to complete disability. One such female patient aged 60 years was brought by relatives on stretcher at Panchakarma OPD of CBPACS, New Delhi. She was complaining of severe pain in lower back and buttocks on her left side which is radiating to the thighs, calf region and down to the foot. Lying down in supine position was unattainable for her, so she had positioned herself laterally, that too with difficulty. She was unable to sit, stand or walk. Straight leg rise (SLR) test was not possible to perform. Treatment followed- internally fresh Dashmoola kwath 40ml, Shatavari guda 5gm and Lashunadi vati 500mg with warm water after meals (Vyaanodaanakaal). Panchakarma – Matra Basti stat with Laghu vishgarbha oil 20ml and Ksheerbala oil 40ml followed by Kati basti with Laghu vishgarbha oil and Ksheerbala oil and Patra Pottali Swedana for 15 days. After discharge patient was having complete relief from pain. She was able to sit, walk and lay down with ease. Straight leg rise (SLR) was 900 . Visual Analogue Scale (VAS) score came down to 2 from 9.

The disease SandhigataVata is mentioned under Vatavayadhi in Ayurvedic classics. In old age all dhatus undergo kshaya leading to vataprokopa making individuals prone to many diseases like SandhigataVata. Here affliction of the joints by vitiated vata is the chief phenomenon in the pathogenesis of the disease. The cardinal feature of the disease is shulapradhanavedana (pain) along with sandhisotha (inflamed joints) and vatapurnadrutisparsha (swelling) as mentioned in Ayurvedic classics. It can be compared with Osteoarthrithis of Modern medical Science. The Osteoarthritis, also known as degenerative joint disease is the most common articular disorder which begins asymptomatically in the 2nd and 3rd decades and is extremely common by the age of 70 years. In Modern medical Science the main treatment is conservative and surgical which has its own limitations and side effects. In Ayurvedic classics the management procedures of SandhigataVata is vividly described. The present clinical study was done on the 100 patients at Govt. Ayurvedic College & Hospital Guwahati, and it has shown very good results in reducing the all the symptoms i.e. pain, inflammation and swelling of the Janusandhigatavata. In this clinical study, the Rasayan drugs like Ashwagandha, and Shigru which has anti-inflammatory, analgesic, immunomodulator properties etc&Yastimadhu which act as phytoestrogen has been given orally for 90 days along with Matrabasti with AshwagandhaGhrita has been given for 8 days. Basti is considered best for all the Vatavyadhis.

Shri. Dhanvantari blessed human life with Ayurveda to cure all the diseases and to achieve healthy life. To cure all types of diseases, Ayurveda is divided in eight branches known as 'Astang -Ayurved'. These branches describes copiously the treatment of various diseases. Damshtracikista or visacikista or Agadtantra is one of the very important branch of Ayurveda. It deals with alleviation of poisons, artificial poisons and toxic symptoms due to intake of antagonistic substances. There is great devotion of Acharya Carak , Susrut and Vagbhat for this subject. Raktamoksana is speciality of Ayurveda. It is very much discussed in all other branches of Ayurveda. In this article, an effort is made to underline the importance of Raktamoksana in treatment of poisons.

Aim: Phytochemistry of Manjistha root was done to compare the relevant therapeutic effect. Materials and Methods: Manjistha root was evaluated to determine total, water soluble, acid insoluble ash & extractive values. Organic matter was determined for the presence or absence of carbohydrates, alkaloids, amino acids, protein, saponin, glycosides, phenolic compound, tannins from aqueous & alcoholic extract. Results: Three tests in aqueous and two tests in alcoholic extract were found positive of carbohydrates. Alkaloids were found positive in two tests for aqueous extract and two tests from alcoholic extract. In both the extracts the amino acids was found positive which have major role in the detoxification of blood. Foam test was found positive in aqueous extract which is done for saponin which is a cleansing agent & washout the poison from vegetables. Keller kilini test was found positive only in aqueous extract which is done for glycosides. Phenolic compound was positive for both extract. Phenol plays a role as antiseptic along with anticarcinogenic, antioxidant properties. All the 4 tests in both extract were found positive which is done for tannins which play a major role as chemical antidote by precipitating most of the poisonous compound. Conclusion: Carbohydrates, alkaloids, amino acids, saponin, glycosides, phenolic compounds and tannins were found as a major constituent in Rubia cordifolia Linn. root which will play a major role as an antitoxin, detoxification of blood, antiseptic, antimutagenic, anticarcinogenic and antioxidant agent.

Infertility is a big problem of spouse nowadays. Conception depends on the fertility potential of both male and female partner only when there is unprotected sex for one year.In Ayurvedic text like Charak Samhita, Sushruta Samhita, Rasratna samuchya and Hareet Samhita, many types of bandhyatva have been described. We can correlate infertility with bandhyatva. Acharya Sushruta described four essential factors for conception i.e. ritu (fertile period), kshetra (Fertile uterus), ambu (female sex hormone) and beeja (viable ovum and sperm). In the present study all the factor were taken up for clinical drug trial. Apamarg is selected for the study as described by Acharya Shodhal in Gad Nigrah. Apamarg is the lord of all herbs and it cures Anapatya as described in Atherva Veda and also in Gad Nigraha. Hence, Apamarg is selected for clinical trial.

Science is not stagnant water. It needs to evolve or adapt according to time. Ayurveda (knowledge of life) is a medical science, present since time immemorial. In Ayurveda, properties of corn and its uses are mentioned under the classification of dhanya varga (groups of pulses). Many research works on corn oil show its high therapeutic effect. It is also known as maize oil. Corn is widely cultivated in entire the world, and a greater weight of maize is produced each year than any other grain. In Sanskrit, corn (Zea mays Linn.) is called as Makkaya, and comes under Yavakula (Gramineae family). Makkaya or Mahakaya has properties like Kashaya rasa (astringent taste), Madhura rasa (sweet taste), and Guru (heavy) Snigdha (unctuous) guna and sheeta virya (cold potency). The most important thing to note about edible oil is its fatty acid composition. 100 gm of corn oil contains 12.9 gm saturated fat, 54.6 gm polyunsaturated fats (PUFA), 27.5 gm monounsaturated fats (MUFA) In today’s era, when many classical Ayurvedic herbs are becoming extinct, it is of utmost importance to discover its alternatives. Certain substitutes have been classically mentioned but even these are scarce today. Hence, here an effort made to introduce new, commonly available substitutes in the Panchakarma processes in order to make them more accessible and cost effective for the patient.

According to Diabetes Atlas 2017, 8th edition, published by International Diabetes Federation, Diabetes is one of the largest global health emergencies of the 21st century. There are 425 million people estimated to have diabetes in 2017, which will be estimated 629 million in 2045 in the age group of 20-79 years. Madhumeha is one among the VatajaPrameha that has been considered as a mahagada and sequel of all varieties of Prameha. As per AcharyaCharaka in case of Madhumeha along with mutra there is excretion of Ojha which is madhura in nature. Madhumeha may be correlated with Diabetes Mellitus.Though different herbal compound has been described in Ayurvedic classics,more research and clinical evaluation are going on to establish Ayurvedic medicine as an effective treatment of Madhumeha (Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus).The present clinical study was on the efficacy of HaridradiKashaya (Curcuma longa, Berberis aristata,Embelia ribes and Valeriana wallichii) in the management of Madhumeha which is explained in Charak Samhita, Chikitsa Sthan, Chapter 6,sloka 27.This open clinical trial study was conducted on 100 patients, out of which 84 patients completed the study. The duration of study was 90 days and follow up was taken after 15 days. The results were prepared as per statistical analysis and the result shows that HaridradiKashaya is a potent drug in the management of Madhumeha.

If it is not done properly the adverse reaction may occur. In this article we are going to study SNV, its recent advances with its pharmacotherapeutic perspectives. Through this article we will study Properties of SNV with ayurvedic and modern perspectives, therapeutic uses of SNV with ayurvedic and modern perspectives.

Background: Vatarakta is a unique clinical manifestation explained in the Ayurvedic classics having the involvement of both Vata Dosha and Rakta Dhatu. It is a disease predominantly affecting the extremities mainly the Pada and Hasta. Due to the similarity in the pathology of Vatarakta and Diabetic neuropathy, many symptoms like Daha and Shoola which are manifested in Vatarakta are also observed to be manifested in Diabetic Neuropathy. Pinda Taila is one such formulation mentioned in our classics for the relief of Daha and Shoola developed in Vatarakta. Aims and objectives: To evaluate the efficacy of Pinda Taila in the symptomatic management of Daha and Shoola of Diabetic Neuropathy. Materials and methods: 20 patients diagnosed with Diabetic Neuropathy suffering from Daha and Shoola were selected for the study. Results and Conclusion: Pinda Taila was observed to be statistically efficacious in the management of the symptom Shoola than Daha.

In ancient Ayurveda; conceptual study on food has been discussed in multidimensional aspect. A variety and divergent type of description is available on Aahara. It is discussed and classified into various ways and parameters. Few of those are like Dwividha,Trividha,Chaturvidha,Panchvidha,Shadavidha, Ashatavidha, and so on. Although all classical texts covered concept of diverse diet; but style of Acharya Susruta is unique and intellectual. Susruta is having objective approach regarding description of any concept, which can be accepted without any hesitation. One has to assess the type of diet in views like property, utility, advantage and drawback on individual’s health. Food has to be taken in to account in different angles for the sake of sustaining health. Not only qualitative analysis of food is taken in to mind but also its benefit for health is to be considered. Aaacharya Susruta in Uttertantra chapter 64 as Swasthvrittam Aadhyaya introduced a new thought regarding classification of food. It is divided in twelve different points of considerations termed as Dwadasha Ashana Vicharana. If we go through the conceptual review of the same a new outlook on the horizon of diet classification can be seen; this type of classification is important in subjective and objective aspect. Discussion of food is dealt with goodwill of diseased and healthy person. This article is enlightened on deep prudential approach of Susruta about narration of Dwadasha Ashana.

Ayurveda, the ancient science of life, has always focused on the nurture and maintenance of good health in an individual. Ayurveda believes in striking a balance between an individual (body, mind, soul, spirit). Ayurvedic fumigation, Dhoopana is an example of drug delivery through the inhalation routehaving several advantages including ease of drug administration, higher bioavailability and high potential to penetrate the blood brain barrier. Dhoop formulation made in this work is with an aim to minimize the usage of chemicals or disinfectants to cleanse the environment as well as an eco-friendly treatment against cough and cold. Efforts were made to devise an herbal Dhoop using cow dung, cow ghee, camphor, Ajwain seeds (Trachyspermum ammi) and Dill (Anethum graveolens L.) Having an appreciable fragrance. The current work focuses on preparation and bioanalytical evaluation of natural and herbal Dhoop formulation for cleansing theenvironment and an eco-friendly treatment against cough and cold. The antimicrobial activity of the prepared Dhoop was checked and it was found that it canbe a potential source against respiratory pathogens namely, Staphylococcus aureus and Klebsiella pneumoniae.

Among the spine, cervical area is considered to be vital as the motor and sensory nerves controlling the body mechanism (bellow the neck) pass through this area. The different pathological conditions affecting this area range from simple degeneration to that of fracture. Depending on the extent of disease, the symptom may be simple neck pain, stiffness, weakness to that of severe radiculopathy, quadriplegia due to cord compression. The diseases presenting with such symptoms which is a threat to the working population is cervical radiculopathy. Due to its affect over the personal and occupational life and increasing incidence it needs immediate attention. Hence, the early detection, early and proper management, rehabilitation, prevents patient from suffering and disability. In Ayurveda, the disease which mimics the symptom of cervical radiculopathy is vishwachi where the involvement of prakupita vata, khandara, asthi is evident by the samprapti. Among the general vata vyadhi nidanas, the nidana which cause vishwachi will be discussed with possible samprapti. Among the management, as the part involved is jatrurdhwa, nasya is the first and ideal treatment along with other supportive therapies like pachana, snehana, swedana and so on. Based on the samprapti and dosha involved, the type of chikitsa differs. The vata vyadhi nidana specific to cervical radiculopathy and its management from Ayurvedic perspective will be discussed.

A randomized clinical study planned to compare the therapeutic effect of sadyovamana and Simhyadi in the subjects who are diagnosed as Tamaka shwasa. Objective: to compare the therapeutic efficacy of Sadyovamana and Simhyadi Qwatha in patients suffering from Tamaka Shwasa. Study design: An open randomised clinical trial with pre-test and post-test design. Study selection: 30 patient suffering from Tamaka Shwasa/Bronchial Asthma were selected for the study from SDM Ayurveda hospital, Udupi. Intervention: Group A: Patients were subjected to Sadyo vamana following 15min of nadi sweda followed by 3/5 days of samsarjana karma. Group B: Simhyadi Qwatha 50ml bid was prescribed for 7 days. Patients from both the groups were assessed for 30 days with weekly interval. Outcome measures: The response of the intervention was assessed in both the groups before and after the treatment with a scoring pattern and the results were analysed bystatistical tests. Results: The observations noted after the treatment were statistically significant in subjective and objective parameters in both the groups. Sadyovamana showed better results on overall improvement with 73.33% of Good remission, 18.75% of moderate remission, and 6.66% of average remission. Whereas, Simhyadi Qwatha showed 33.33% of good remission, 40.00% of moderate remission, and 40.00% of average remission. Conclusion: Both the interventions were found to be efficacious in relieving the cardinal symptoms of Tamaka Shwasa, where Sadyovamana group showed comparatively better improvement.

Ayurveda is a science that provides the science of balance at mental, emotional (spiritual) & physical status of living being. Ayurvedic classics were emphasized on three important pills which have been considered as the important conducive factors for maintenance of healthy life and health. These are Ahara (food), Nidra (Sleep) and Brahmacarya (Good conduct). These three have been considered as Upastambha or the basis of life and health. Among traya-upastambha, Ahara (diet) has been considered as the first one which shows its importance. In the present era, a woman is known to be multi-faceted and plays some vital roles in our society. There is always a fight against time for a working woman. It became seemingly difficult for her to maintain a work-life balance. Among the Indian women 68% are suffering from lifestyle disorders. Majority of working women in the age bracket of 21-52 years were found to be afflicted with lifestyle ailments such as chronic backache, obesity, diabetes, depression/ general anxiety disorders, cardiovascular disease, malnutrition and infertility. Among the working women 53% of them skip meals and go for junk food, unhealthy diet and bad food habits due to work pressure. Maintaining good health on the basis of fundamentals of Ayurveda which are available in classical literature, a concept of lifestyle which should be adopted for present era will be drawn in to light. Preventive aspect of this system is shown in various do’s and don'ts in Dinacharya, Ritucharya, Sadvirtta, Rasayana and Sanshodhana therapy etc. These Sadvirtta, and therapies play an important role in promoting the health by establishing homeostasis between Dosha, Dhatu & Mala. Among these, diet is very important factor for every lifestyle disorders. Acharya Caraka has clearly stated, that a daily diet should be (of such quality), which not only helps to maintain present well-being but serves as a prophylactic against coming diseases. This is a very important aspect of preventive medicine as mentioned in Ayurveda classics. Therefore, this article is mainly concerned with the Ayurvedic diet and dietetics principles for the prevention of lifestyle disorders.

Rasayana formulations in Ayurveda provide longevity, memory, intelligence, freedom from diseases, youthful age as well as physical strength. It is good for all age groups, prevents the effects of early ageing and increased immunity. The areas of specific consideration in Ayurveda are geriatrics, rejuvenation, nutrition, immunology, genetics, and higher consciousness. Ayurvedic text describes set of rejuvenating measures to impart biological sustenance to the bodily tissues. These remedies called “Rasayana” which are claimed to act as micronutrient. Geriatrics, a condition inevitable to all mankind, brings with it a series of disease and disorders. Chyawanaprasha being classified as Rasayana, maintains the body’s integrity & rejuvenates by improving digestion, pacifying vikrita tridosha, & regulates Vata thereby delaying the ageing process & thus enhances the longevity. Also its one amongst the unique polyherbal formulation classically mentioned for its wide range of indications including the vulnerable group i.e., children & diseased persons. Again, it has proved efficacy on number of conditions ranging from acute origin like cough, cold to chronic disorders such as tuberculosis, asthma, bronchospasm, etc. It contains about 50 ingredients; most of them have been scientifically well established individually for their health care benefits. In this article a brief review of this all-time proven Ayurvedic remedy has been taken along with its pharmaceutical, chemical and clinical parameters. Efforts are made to evaluate the potency of the formulation on the basis of various research works available on Chyawanaprasha itself as well as its main ingredients and to co relate its benefits with the management of senility of the body.

Food poisoning also called foodborne illness. This is caused by consuming contaminated food, But in specific terms it is poisoning due to bacterial products only i.e. bacteria and their toxins. According to W.H.O. an estimated 600 million, approx. 1 in 10 people in the word fall ill after eating contaminated food and 4,20,000 die every year resulting in the loss of 33 million healthy lives in a year. Ayurveda is an ancient medical science and has described the food poisoning indirectly in the form of AharaVishaktata. The aims of present study are to collect, elaborate, evaluate and discuss the food poisoning in aspect of Ayurveda as well as modern science.

The advances in technologies and emergence of new therapeutic approaches have led to the rapid improvement in the field of wound healing. Herbal ointments have enormous role to play in wound healing and are widely used in clinical practice these days. This article reviews the wound healing effect of an Ayurvedic formulation in Ointment form through clinical trials with an intention to maximize its clinical effectiveness and accelerate its integration into wider clinical practice. Ghanasatwa (Water extract) of six individual drugs known to have good wound healing properties were prepared and the extract formulated as herbal ointment - Jatyadi cream. This was used to treat patients of chronic non healing wounds devoid of infection, i.e., where tissue regeneration had begun. Wound measurements were done before and during the course of treatment. Tissue biopsy to estimate the MAGS score indicating angiogenesis prior to and during the course of treatment was done. In most of the cases, there was a progressive increase in the MAGS score along with reduction in wound size, with time, indicating the efficacy of the formulation in wound healing.

Dhattura (Dhattura stramonium Linn.) is one of the commonly available weed which is well known for its toxic effect. It is described in Ayurveda, the Indian system of medicine for its therapeutic uses in various ailments like Jwara (Fever), Kushta (Skin diseases), Visha (Poison), Shwasa (Respiratory disease), Shula (Pain), Shotha (Inflammation), Amavata (Rheumatoid arthritis) and many others. In recent years, the plant has been screened for its antifungal, antimicrobial, antispasmodic, antibacterial, anticancer, antioxidant, analgesic and anti-inflammatory activities. The present article is a review on the therapeutic potential listed in Ayurveda, research updates on Phytoconstituents and pharmacological activities. The review demonstrates that the plant is a potential for the treatment in various illness.

Background: In Ayurvedic classics, in the context of Kshudra rogas, it is mentioned that Mukhdooshika occurs in yuvavastha and its signs and symptoms are similar to that of Acne vulgaris. In Ayurvedic classics many lepas and shodhan therapy are considered to be the effective treatment for Mukhdooshika. Purpose: The purpose of the present study was to “Evaluate the efficacy of Lodhradi Lepa and Mukhdooshikahar Vati along with Virechan in the management of Mukhdooshika w.s.r Acne Vulgaris”. The clinical study was conducted over a period of 45 days on 20 diagnosed cases of Acne vulgaris. This was an Single Blind Randomized clinical study involving patients of either sex between 16-35 yrs suffering from Acne vulgaris. Results & conclusion: In this clinical study, for managing the Mukhdooshika, patients were subjected through Virechan followed by local application of Lodhradi Lepa (two times a day) and Mukhdooshikahar Vati as oral drug (three tablet thrice a day). Patients got significant improvement and no complications were found during and after the clinical study.

Ayurveda emphasize an inventive view of health during treating the disease. It is the science which has detailed conception of anthropometry at that time. As Ayurveda deals not only with diseases but also provides the background for healthy long life. The concept of angul pramana (measurement) is a significant tool for the knowledge of both longevity as well as disease. It varies from individual to individual according to prakriti (body constitution). As the body constituents are different from one another, so the measurement is performed by own finger of an individual. Ayurvedic text has also established a concept of longevity in accordance to angul pramana and different prakriti. Prakriti and pramana both are included in dashvidha pariksha. Also kaphaj prakriti purusha has pralamb bahu (long arms) and lean and thin of vata prakriti. kapha prakriti individuals are dirghayu (long life), pitta prakriti are madhyam ayu (moderate life span) and vata prakriti have alpayu (short life span). So pramana provides scientific value of anatomical and physiological judgment of health of an individual.

The pregnant women are more prone to vaginal infection like vulvovaginitis, which presents a great challenge for obstetrician today.Present studywas aimed to evaluate efficacy of Dhatakyadi Varti in management of Upapluta Yonivyapad (Vulvovaginitis during pregnancy).Total 43 patients in the age group of 19-40 years were registered and one Dhatakyadi Varti each of 3 gram was inserted intra vaginally once at bed time for 14 days. The effect of therapy was assessed on the basis of relief in subjective and objective criteria (wet vaginal smear). In trail group 34.88% got complete remission, marked improvement was found in 34.88% cases and only 2.32% patients remained unchanged.Conclusion of the study is that Dhatakyad Varti is highly effective in reducing subjective and objective variables of Upapluta Yonivyapad (Vulvovaginitis during pregnancy), and will also help in deriving new conclusion and axioms in management of vaginal discharge during pregnancy.

Background and Objective: Hypertension is the leading cause of global burden of cardiovascular disease. It is an epidemic that globally affects one billion people and a common cause of death. This retrospective study was conducted in April 2017 to evaluate the effect of the Blood Pressure (BP) Management Program in overweight to obese category male hypertensive patients. Methods: Data of 28 patients were included who had received the scheduled 6 sitting of BP management kit in a span of 90 days. In this study, the variables [mean systolic blood pressure (SBP), diastolic blood pressure (DBP), mean arterial pressure (MAP), Body Mass Index (BMI) and dependency of allopathic medicines] were assessed on day 1 to day 90 of the BP management program. Results: The mean SBP was significantly lower on day 90 (153.5 ± 9.6 mm Hg to 127.80± 10.23 mm Hg, (p<0.001). The mean DBP reduced significantly from day 1 (91.60 ± 9.13 mm Hg to 78.64 ± 6.92 mm Hg). The mean value of MAP was much lower on day 90 (112.21 ± 7.3 5mm Hg to 94.80 ± 7.44 mm Hg, p<0.01). The BMI was much lower from day 1 (27.47 ± 2.49 to 26.45 ± 2.21, P < 0.001). Patients dependent on allopathic medicines were lesser at 90 days. Conclusions: The BP management program was efficacious in controlling hypertension in male patients that were overweight or obese.

Introduction- The urinalysis is a set of screening tests that can detect some common diseases. It may be used to screen for and help diagnose conditions such as urinary tract infections, kidney disorders, liver problems, diabetes or other metabolic conditions. Urine examination is mentioned in both Ayurveda and Tibetan system of medicine which plays a very important role in making diagnosis and prognosis of diseases. In Tibetan system of medicine, it is mentioned in ‘Explanatory Tantra’ after pulse examination as a separate chapter. While in Ayurveda, in Brihtrayi it is mentioned in many chapters such as in prameh chikitsa, raktapitta chikitsa, arishta prakarana in indriya sthana etc. In Yogaratnākara, Basavarajiyam, chikitsa sara (a treatment based book) have given special attention towards urine examination. Aims & objectives-The main aim of comparing both the traditional systems is to combine together the knowledge of both the traditional systems and to expand the knowledge of urine examination so that physician could make diagnosis and prognosis of diseases in best and easiest way. Materials and Methods- Author has either reviewed both the systems thoroughly such as brihatrayi (Charaka, Sushruta and Vagbhata samhita) and Yogratnakara of Ayurveda and Gyue-shi (a text book of four tantra of Tibetan medicine) and compared both the systems. Results- Both the systems have mentioned urine examination in detail and in appropriate way and are quite similar. Discussion & Conclusions –Both the systems have mentioned about the preparation before the collection of urine, time of collection of urine, characteristics of healthy and unhealthy urine, urine indicating evil spirits which are quite similar except ‘tail bindu pariksha’ which is only mentioned in Yogratnakara.

Liver is a large organ that maintains metabolic functions and detoxification processes in the body. Liver disease occurs throughout the world irrespective of age, sex, region or race. According to World Health Organization, about 46% of global diseases and 59% of the mortality is because of chronic diseases and almost 35 million people in the world die of chronic liver diseases. Liver and its dysfunctions are highly defined and well described in Ayurveda in relation to pathogens (dosha), tissues (dhatu) and its development. Liver disorders include a group of diseases of the liver and biliary system. There are no any complete, safe and effective remedies available for liver disorders. Treatments used are found to give only symptomatic relief. A number of herbs, classical and significant formulations in various dosage forms are mentioned in Ayurved classics for liver diseases. The details of experimental and pre-clinical studies conducted on single and compound Ayurvedic preparations for their efficacy against liver cancer and other hepatic ailments are also important. They strongly emphasize Ayurvedic products as a scientifically feasible medical practice and an unconventional entity. But well planned clinical trials to establish the safety and efficacy is the need. Ayurvedic medicine has an opportunity to develop new drugs and contribute as safe and cost effective treatment for Liver disorders. In this paper, authors have reviewed all the liver disorders and potential medicinal plants which are scientifically proved.
