The range of statutory restrictions imposed on employment in oil and gas industry causes practical challenges for operational performance of oilfield companies in Azerbaijan. Majority of violations and penalties for employers turning up during the state labour inspections attributes to the lack of clarity and misunderstanding rather than intentional wrongdoing. It proves that a number of ambiguous provisions should be clarified and the gaps should be fixed by legislators in order to catch up with the rapid rhythm of developments. The article provides a comprehensive overview of local laws and complementing international standards and draws conclusions regarding the need of modernisation of labour legislation.

The main purpose of this research is to analyze issues related to “life expectancy at birth” in Azerbaijan. “Life expectancy at birth” for males and females has been analyzed separately and comparatively with other countries in the research. Thus, the average “life expectancy at birth” was found to be 71.96 years for this period. This indicator has been equal to 75.16 for females, 68.69 years for males. In the article, the factors affecting the disparities in “life expectancy at birth” have been touched. In addition, the relation between “life expectancy at birth” and related factors such as GDP and public health expenditure has been investigated. The data used in the article are related to the period of 1995-2014. According to the results, it has been found to be strong positive correlation between “life expectancy at birth”, public health expenditure and GDP in Azerbaijan

After gaining the independence Republic of Azerbaijan has entered a new stage of development of foreign economic relations. Support for free trade in the country, an important geostrategic position, and the removal of customs barriers contributed to the growth of foreign trade turnover. İn the research, export, import, as well as the relationship between the trade balance and GDP have been investigated by applying simple regression analysis. The data used in the article are related to the period of 2000-2015. According to the results of the research, it appeared to be present the strong positive correlation between variables.

Thus, the economic mechanism is original systems of mechanisms with closely co-operating elements. What formation any one hindrances or the negative phenomena in one of these elements will immediately negatively affect stable work of all economic mechanism as a whole. The concept of sustainable development is a relatively new concept that has been introduced in order to overcome the shortcomings of previous models of development. Sustainable development seeks to establish a balance between the various dimensions of development: economic, environmental and social. Nevertheless, despite the high usage of the term, it is necessary to better understand the concept of sustainability in order to facilitate the implementation of this model of development (Štrbac et al, 2012). Taking this in account, this paper provides an overview of the sustainability of urban development as a prerequisite for the creation of a sustainable city. To address this need to be familiar with are urban development, urban environment and social - intellectual norms in society scalable financial and political parameters. It can be argued that every generation has the right to regulate their environment according to their needs and capabilities, however there is a parallel obligation of this generation to its successors, in subsequent generations, leave enriched, but not ruined urban space.

In the modern world, where food security has become one of the main challenges of society, profitability of agricultural production gains a specific importance. Thus the main objective of this study is to determine the most profitable structure of sown area in Azerbaijan through allocation of the sown area according to requirements of crops and the natural-climatic conditions of the regions. Taking these factors into account the profitability of current structure of sown area in Azerbaijan has been analyzed. The analysis, have been implemented on crop and regional level. This is important, as Azerbaijan has 10 economic regions and natural-climatic conditions of these regions differ from each other. Also, each group of crops requires specific temperature and water resources. In order to gain the main goal, the profit of each group of crops per hectare for the last ten years for each region of the country and the average profit for this period has been calculated. Based on the comparison of results the most profitable crops for each region have been determined. The natural-climatic conditions of the regions and temperature and water requirements of each group of crops have also been analyzed in order to find the evidence based reasons for the profitability of different crops in different regions. And based on the results of this analysis the more profitable structure of sown area for the country have been determined. Detailed calculations, analysis and research taking into account new socio-economic conditions make this study a valuable document and the results of this research can be used to assure the food security of the country, as a background information for policy making in agriculture, regional development programs, specialization of agricultural production in regions and so on. Soil and climatic conditions of Azerbaijan allow cultivation of apples, pears, grapes, pomegranate, plum, quince, peach, apricot, cherry and other fruits. The issues of increasing the production of pomegranate in country is researched in this article. In 2014, 153423 tons of pomegranate was produced in Azerbaijan. This is 2 times more compared to 2000. The importance of increase the production pomegranate is put forward by the author and proposals related to the solution of problems in this area are prepared.
