A Simple, validated, accurate and precise simultaneous UV Spectrophotometric method has been developed for the simultaneous estimation of Rizatriptan Benzoate (RIZ) and Naproxen Sodium (NAP) in pharmaceutical dosage form. Rizatriptan Benzoate exhibits absorption maximum at 282.9nm and Naproxen Sodium shows absorption maximum at 261.8nm in methanol. The Beer’s law obeyed the concentration range of 5-30µg/ml for RIZ and NAP. Mean recovery of 100.25% for RIZ and 99.2%5 for NAP respectively signifies the accuracy of the method. This method can be used for the routine simultaneous estimation of RIZ and NAP in pharmaceutical dosage forms.

Background & Objectives: Pain is the most common disturbing symptom a person experiences in life. Many branded drugs are available in the market for relieving pain and moreover are sold over the counter but carries different adverse drug reactions. The objective of this study was to explore the role of Terminalia belerica fruit pulp aqueous extract in Swiss Albino mice. Methods: Animals were divided randomly into control, standard and test groups consisting of six animals in each. Group I received the vehicle (1% gum acacia, 10 ml/kg) and served as the control, group II received Tramadol 20mg/kg and Diclofenac sodium 10mg/kg respectively which served as a standard for central and peripheral antinociceptive activity while group III, IV and V received the test drug Terminalia belerica fruit pulp aqueous extract (TBFPAE) in the doses of 9, 18 and 36mg/kg respectively. All the drugs were administered orally one hour prior to experiment and were evaluated for central analgesic activity by Eddy’s hot plate method and peripheral analgesic activity by acetic acid induced writhing reflex in Swiss Albino mice. Results: Our study has shown an increase in reaction time (p<0.05) in all three doses at 30 minutes interval as compared to the control by Eddy’s hot plate method and also reduced the number of writhes (p<0.05) by acetic acid induced writhing reflex in Swiss Albino mice compared to the control. Interpretation & Conclusions: Our study has shown central and peripheral antinociceptive activity of Terminalia belerica fruit pulp aqueous extract in swiss albino mice.

Objective: Eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) from fish oil is known to have favourable effects on cardiovascular system by lowering the elevated lipid levels. With the intention of producing an alternative vegetarian source to fish EPA, we have microbially synthesized EPA (mEPA) from α- linolenic acid (ALA) isolated from rice bran oil which was spectroscopically analysed. The objective of the present study was to evaluate the effect of mEPA on lipid profile in experimentally induced hyperlipidemic rats. Methods: Animals were divided into 12 groups of six animals each; control being treated with vehicle, 6 groups received normal diet while 6 groups received high fat diet. Both treatment groups received standard drug Atorvastatin (10 mg/ kg in saline, p.o.); three different doses of EPA (5, 10 and 50 mg/kg) and fish oil (1 g/ kg) for 28 days and were compared with sham hyperlipidemic rats. The hyperlipidemia was induced by high fat diet and lipid profile was estimated. Results: The elevated levels of LDL, VLDL and triglycerides in high fat diet induced animals were found to be decreased in the treatment groups whereas the decreased levels of HDL in hyperlipidemic group were significantly increased in the mEPA treated groups. The atherogenic index was improved with mEPA treatment. Conclusion: mEPA has shown promising antihyperlipidemic effect and can fulfil the need of alternative vegetarian source of EPA than fish oil to be used in the hypertensive hyperlipidemic conditions.

Migraine is the most common type of vascular headache characterized by recurrent attacks of headache, which typically lasts for 4 to 72 hours. Recurrent attacks of migraine affect the patients’ quality of life, social activities and family life. Migraine is recognized as a major cause of disability worldwide. Migraine was cited as the 19th leading cause of years lived with disability (YLD) among both males and females of all ages combined and the 12th leading cause of years lived with disability among females of all ages. The management of migraine may include non-pharmacological and/ or pharmacological treatment. The pharmacological treatment of migraine can be acute (abortive) or preventive, and patients with frequent severe headaches often require both approaches. Preventive migraine treatment also includes non-pharmacological therapy. Preventive treatment is used to reduce the frequency, duration or severity of attacks. Additional benefits include improvement of responsiveness to acute attack treatment, improvement of function and reduction in disability. It might preclude the progression of episodic migraine to chronic migraine and result in reductions in the cost of healthcare.
