Aims: Aim of this study was to evaluate prescription patterns of drugs used in acute myocardial infarction patients in Western Rajasthan. Materials and Methods: This study was cross-sectional and observational study, conducted at Department of Pharmacology, in association with Department of Cardiology, M. D. M. Hospital, a tertiary care teaching hospital attached with Dr. S.N. Medical College, Jodhpur, Rajasthan. Results: Out of 101 STEMI diagnosed patients, 66 were males and 35 were females. Maximum patients belong to age group (60-69yrs) and least in age group (20-29yrs). Anticoagulant and hypolipidemic drugs were prescribed to every patient. Atorvastatin and enoxaparin (LMWH) were maximum prescribed drug that were used in all 100% patients; while Aspirin and Clopidogrel used in 99% patients. Among antianginal drugs, Isosorbide dinitrate (ISDN) was most common prescribed drug in 66 patients (65.34%), followed by Nitroglycerin (NTG) in 62 patients (61.38%). While among antihypertensive drugs beta blockers were maximum prescribed drugs that were used in 64 patients (63.36%), followed by ACE inhibitors in 32 patients (31.68%). Conclusion: Findings of our study are in accordance with ESC Guidelines 2018. Myocardial infarction and risk of its complications can be control by diet control, regular exercise, medicines and by time to time follow up. Most common prescribed drugs were anticoagulant and hypolipidemic drugs. While most common prescribed antihypertensive drug in MI patients was Beta blockers and most prescribed antianginal drug was Isosorbide dinitrate (ISDN).

Herbs are natural remedies for the disease with higher safety profile and efficacy . India is gifted with varieties of large number of medicinal herbs because of variety of climatic conditions and seasons favorable for growth of many species of plants. Amongst the large number of herbal drugs existing in India, very few have been studied systematically so far. Tridax procumbens (L) is a highly valuable drug and is one of the essential ingredients in the most of the compound preparations included in Ayurvedic literature. It is well known for number of pharmacological activities like hepatoprotective activity, anti-inflammatory, wound healing, Antidibetic activity, hypotensive effect, immunomodulating property, bronchial catarrh, dysentery, diarrhea and to prevent falling of hair, promotes the growth of hair, and antimicrobial activity against both gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria. The leaf juice shows antiseptic, insecticidal and parasiticidal properties, against conjunctivitis and is used also to check hemorrhage from cuts, bruises and wounds insect repellent. It is also used as bioadsorbent for chromium. Here we try to make attempt for focusing on antimicrobial activity of Tridax procumbens flowers. Their antibacterial activities were evaluated in vitro against clinical bacterial isolates. In effort to identify novel bacterial agents, this study was initiated to evaluate the antimicrobial properties of Tridax procumbens flowers extract against E. coli and Staphylococcus aureus by using disc-diffusion assay. The flower plant extracts demonstrated good antimicrobial activity against these bacteria tested with inhibition zones. The minimal inhibitory concentration (MIC) values of extract against the tested bacteria were found to 67.3 mg/ml and 48.20 against E.coli and Staphylococcus aureus respectively. The methanolic extract of flowers exhibited a pronounced activity against E. coli and Staphylococcus aureus. The minimum inhibitory concentration was found in methanolic Extracts of Tridax procumbens against test organisms.

Introduction: Migraine is one of the most common disabling conditions among neurological disorders and the World Health Organization [WHO] has identified migraine among the world’s top 20 leading causes of disability. Quality of life in migraine sufferers is usually associated with severe, noticeable disability, which in turn affects daily activity. Objective: To assess the impact of migraine on Quality of Life (QOL) of migraineurs receiving topiramate (TPM) using Migraine Disability Assessment Test [MIDAS]. Method: A cross sectional, observational study was carried out among outpatients with migraine who were receiving topiramate. Baseline demographic information, treatment history, adverse drug reactions, and QOL data were collected. Statistical analysis was done and descriptive statistics were reported to summarize the data. Results: There were 123 patients with migraine in the mean age range of 26.49 ± 6.29 years, with 67.47% being females. A majority of patients received TPM monotherapy [61.78%]. At the time of enrolment, 45.52% of patients were severely disabled and at 3 months of treatment with TPM, 57.72% of patients showed improvement. The mean MIDAS score was 22.70 ± 13.68 at the time of enrolment which was reduced to 10.44 ± 4.25 at 3 month treatment duration with TPM. Conclusion: Improvement in the total mean MIDAS score was observed in these patients receiving TPM. The frequency, intensity and duration of migraine attack were reduced thereby improving the quality of life in migraineurs. Use of topiramate can improve the QOL and wellbeing of these patients.

Nanotechnology will affect our lives tremendously over the next decade in many diverse fields, including pharmacy and medicine. Transfer of materials to the nanodimension changes their physical properties which are used in pharmaceutics to develop a new innovative formulation principle for poorly soluble drugs: the drug nanocrystals. Development of poorly soluble and/or permeable drug molecules using nanocrystal formulations has proven to be highly successful due to the greater surface/volume ratio, ensuing in improvements in dissolution and bioavailability as well as enhanced permeability. The drug nanocrystals do not belong to the future; the first products are already on the market. The industrially relevant production techniques, pearl milling and high pressure homogenization, are reviewed and also the physics behind the drug nanocrystals and changes of their physical properties are discussed earlier. Drug nanocrystals consist of the pure poorly water-soluble drug without any matrix material means carrier free drug delivery system. This opinion focuses on recent developments in the preparation of nanocrystals and the role of surface properties on optimizing dissolution and targeted delivery.

Toxic Epidermal Necrolysis (TEN) is a rare, life-threatening dermatological manifestation which usually develops after intake of some culprit drugs. These drugs often belong to antibiotics, sulfonamides, non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) and anti-convulsants. We here report a fatal case of an elderly male patient who developed TEN soon after the intake of levetiracetam.
