The article considers one of the regular sections of the “Orenburg Provincial Gazette”. At different times, it has the titles “Memorial of the incidents” and “Review of the incidents.” This section of the gazette is analysed as a source for ethnographic, folkloric, and daily life studies in the region. The author outlines key trends in commenting on the news and their genre characteristics. Most frequent are the news on the deaths from lightning strikes, on human behavior in difficult circumstances, eyewitness accounts of the extraordinary (from their point of view or from the standpoint of "metropolitan resident") events. These messages form extensive narratives. The constant coexistence of the “local views” and constructed “view from the capital” in the texts allows clarifying the motives that drive both the correspondents of the Gazette and their readers. The 1860s are remarkable for a large number of correspondences, which capture the problems disturbing the society and reproduce the situation of the 1840s ar a new level. The newspaper becomes a platform for exchange of views and one of the most important resources of the formation of regional communities.

Interview with Viktoria Nikolaevna Kononykhinа-Seminа (1930–2016) devoted her wartime childhood. Significant place is given to the events of the Nazi occupation of Rostov-on-Don in the late fall of 1941 and summer of 1942 – winter 1943. The author recounts the memories of how relations in the family during the war, about the everyday life of the Soviet people, the perception of the enemy, and other issues. Memoirs V.N. Kononykhinа-Seminа is a valuable testament to the war and occupation have affected the relationship between close people.

The documentary publication deals with the problem of forced return links Balkars in the 1950s. Long 12 years of residence in Kazakhstan and the Central Asian republics, doubtless, have postponed their mark on this ethnic community. However, Balkars carefully treated their customs and traditions, preserved their original culture. 1950s opened up the possibility for the Balkars return to their homeland. The very process of return creates new difficulties. But Balkars together with representatives of other nations – Russian, Ukrainians, Kabardinians relying on their help to overcome these difficulties. In the first place, it has been resolved the main issue – the restoration of the Balkar national statehood. Presented publication of archival documents reveals a set of measures that are taken by the Balkars return to their former places of residence in the North Caucasus.

The texts of poems, chastushkas and the story of soldiers and officers postponed in archival fund of institute in Archive of the Russian Academy of Sciences are provided. Letters of soldiers and officers of Red Army can fill up source study base on stories of the Great Patriotic War of 1941–1945 and domestic culture, they can be used both in research, and in the educational purposes.

The documents and memories written by the commander of the Apsheron partisan detachment Sergey S. Zhukov concern the organization and operations of this unit, which was a part of Neftegorsk formation of partisan detachments of the Kuban in 1942-1943. The most relevant documents are presented by S.S. Zhukov’s report and the detachment’s account. The early story written by the commander on the organization of the detachment and its operations is also of great interest. In the publication of 1975, this text was strongly corrected with the political and ideological aims. Publication of all the documents gives an opportunity to retrace how the events of the Great Patriotic War have been rethought in the Soviet time and nowadays.

In 1923 there were organized “anti-Christmas” carnivals all over the country as a part of anti-religious propaganda. The articles in the newspapers “Sovetsky Yug” and “Trudovoy Don” allow following the background, process and the results of “Komsomol Christmas” in the Donskaya oblast. This action had hurt the feelings of the believers, but there were not registered any protests against this campaign.

Introduced publication of the documents is dedicated to the Diocese of Donetsk, Don and Caucasus of Russian Old-Orthodox Church accepting Belokrinitsky hierarchy, which existed in 1947–1948 years. The documents, which were revealed in the State Archive of Rostov weren’t published earlier. In the introduction article and notes were used the documents of the Religious Cults Matters’ Council al the Council of People’s Commissars of USSR and his representatives in Rostov Oblast, Stalingrad Oblast, Astrakhan Oblast, Stavropol Krai and Krasnodar Krai, which are stored in the State Archive of the Russian Federation and State Archive of Volgograd Oblast. In the documents were reflected the changes in number and geography of the church parishes, deaneries and diocese’s borders, was showed internal church life. The episcopate’s autobiographies are testifying about difficult destiny of the Old-Believers clergy in USSR. Published documents are allowing to add our representation about Old-Believers’ history, about religious situation in the South of Russian Soviet Federative Socialist Republic, about the state and confessional policy in USSR in the middle of XX century.

The review is devoted to the collection of documents and materials “Church Split in the Don region in 1920–1930”, published in 2015. The Compilers, L.V. Tabunshchikovа and A.V. Shadrina, identified and prepared for publication 260 documents, covering the period from the beginning of Renovationist (1922) and Gregorian (1925) splits up to their elimination in the Rostov region in the mid-1940s. The vast majority of documents have been published for the first time. They show that the GPU initiated Renovationist and Gregorian schisms in the Don. The compilers identified four diocesan Renovationist centers, the names of not only Renovationist and Gregorian, but also anti-Renovationist Don bishops.

Comparative analysis of the footage and text documents from other archives, has allowed revealing new facts, expanding and clarifying information about a secret military-technical expeditions’ Program and its participants.
