The problem of evil, which exists as a result of the effort to make sense of life in every
period of history from archaic people to modern people, is in a close relationship with
cosmogony. In cosmogonic stories, evil is a phenomenon that exists with the first creation and
is even depicted as a part of creation. In the creation myths, the series of events between the
good element God and the evil element cosmic entity, in addition to creating a cosmogony
story, provides a clue as to how the evil experienced in life is interpreted. In this context, the
main purpose of the study is to reveal the position of the problem of evil in the Altay-Yakut
creation myths and its relationship with other elements in the creation process. While
examining the subject, firstly, the discussions in the world of thought about the problem of
evil were mentioned. Afterwards, by specifying the perspectives of religious beliefs and
traditions about creation and evil, it was possible to compare the phenomenon of evil in AltayYakut myths with other religions. The subject is limited to the stories compiled by Verbitskiy
and Radloff. Considering these stories, it is aimed to explain the problem of cosmogony and
evil in Altay-Yakut myths. In terms of comparison with Altay-Yakut myths, Greek and
Iranian mythologies, Jewish, Christian and Islamic theologies were utilized. As a result of the
research, it has been seen that evil is explained by supernatural powers called Ahrimen, Erlik
or Satan.
