In this study, in order to determine the approaches of people in Çan/Çanakkale towards seafood consuming, a questionnaire has been applied to 420 consumers using simple random sample method in November - December 2018. As a result of the study, we identified the locals’ priorities of fish consuming, the reasons of not consuming, the consuming types, and on which types their consuming habits intense. It is identified that 84.29% of consumers in Çan eat fish but mostly consumed meat types are as in order; White meat (48.42%), red meat (36.83%) and fish (12.27%). Anchovy from sea fish (23%) and trout / salmon from fresh water fish (35%) take the first rank. Besides, it is determined that seafood consumption per capita in Çan/Çanakkale is 13.28 kg/year.

Within this study, the most important species European hake which constitutes 50% of the Sea of Marmara demersal fisheries, has been subjected to estimate age, growth characteristics and natural mortality. Bottom trawl hauls were carried out in 19 stations representing the entire Marmara Sea. Sea surveys were performed in different time periods from 2009 to 2011 (September 2009, December 2009, December 2010 and December 2011). A total of 274 sagittal otoliths (117 females, 75 males and 82 unidentified individuals) were obtained from 2009, 2010 and 2011. Sex ratio was calculated 1:1.5 males to females. Age composition was 0+ to 4+ years, most observed age group was 2+ both for female and male (37%). Growth parameters determined by von Bertalanffy equation were found as L∞= 57.51 cm K=0.27 y-1 and t0=-0.57 y-1 . Natural mortality was estimated 0.41 y-1 . Our results obtained from the Marmara Sea strongly support the fast growth hypothesis of M. merluccius. Growth rates clearly differ between males and females in this sea which shows hake growth depends on sex.

According to Turkish rules, a person who will engaged in fishery by boat is required to obtain certicate of qualification for handling to boat and fishery licence for engaged in fishing activities. Although there is at least 240 hours of training for the qualification certificate, there is no training requirement for fishery licence. In this study, a certificate training plan was made under the name of Fishery and Fishing Certificate, taking into account the training needs of fishermen, for those working in the fisheries sector. It is aimed to prevent the unconscious hunting by prepared certificate programme. It is also inevitable that the cooperation of fishermen and academicians will increase when educators are thought to be academicians. With the increase of cooperation and confidence, it is possible to make the exchange of information needed for scientific studies between fishermen and academicians more effective and reliable. With this planning was determined the characteristics of the certificate to be taken, the curriculum and duration of the training, and the criteria for the trainer. In determining these characteristics, the course subjects of the faculties, the legal regulations of the relevant ministries and the educational programs of the other institutions were examined. In addition, the most appropriate model has been determined by discussing the issues such as competent authority on certification, process steps, details of training. *This research is a part of Burhan Taşlı’s MSc Thesis
