Cooking oil, widely used for food preparation, may become a serious pollutant when disposed in an improperly way. Therefore, the knowledge about the consumption profile and disposal of cooking oil’s waste in the municipality of Ijuí can enable the development of educational programs that promote the adoption of more appropriate actions, aimed both to environmental protection as dietary health. The present work, of applied nature, with exploratory and explanatory, qualitative and quantitative character, has built a profile of consumption and disposal of cooking
oil’s waste from 364 questionnaires distributed in 37 districts, representing the 26,532 households in the municipality. The estimated amount of discharge reaches 10,000 liters per week, and 67% of these have inadequate environmental destination. The impacts of consumption are
multiple and affect both environmental compartments such as the health of the population.
