Skin cancer is an uncontrolled growth of abnormal skin cells. It occurs due to DNA damage which leads to mutation of skin cells and results in the formation of malignant tumors. This may be caused by sun light or UV rays and commonly occurs on the skin which is more exposed to sunlight such as the head and neck region. A brief inspection of the head and neck region for suspicious lesion could easily be done during routine examination of patient 1.

Autopolymerized acrylic resin is the most commonly used dental material by the quacks to fill the cavities and to fix the prosthesis directly in the oral cavity. This article presents the case reports to highlight cytotoxic effects of the autopolymerized acrylic resin used by dental quacks for fabrication of prosthesis which is directly allowed to polymerize in contact with adjacent teeth and gingiva in the oral cavity.

Crouzon's syndrome [CS], an autosomal dominant disorder with complete penetrance and variable expressivity is caused by mutation in the fibroblast growth factor receptor 2 (FGFR2) gene. Normally, the sutures in the human skull fuse after the complete growth of the brain, but if any of these sutures close early then it may interfere with the growth of the brain. The disease is characterized by premature synostosis of coronal and sagittal sutures which begins in the first year of life. Case report of an 8 year old boy is presented with characteristic features of Crouzon's syndrome. The patient presented with exophthalmos, hypertelorism, beaked nose, deviated nasal septum,high vault palate, crowding in maxillary premolar region, copper-beaten appearance of skull and diffuse indentation of inner table of skull. In addition to the classical features an interesting finding was the presence of prominent commissural lip pits.

Gingival growths are one of the most frequently encountered lesions in the oral cavity. Most of these lesions are innocuous, but some do have malignant potential. Different lesions with similar clinical presentations make it difficult to arrive at a correct diagnosis. One of the infrequently occurring gingival lesions is Peripheral Ossifying Fibroma (POF). Lesions with histological features similar to POF have been given various names, adding to the confusion. POF is a common solitary gingival overgrowth thought to arise from the gingival corium, periosteum and periodontal ligament(PDL).This article presents a case of Peripheral Ossifying Fibroma in a 19 year old female patient.

A spinal fluid leak from the intracranial space to the nasal respiratory tract is potentially very serious because of the risk of an ascending infection which could produce fulminant meningitis. A cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) rhinorrhoea occurs when there is a fistula between the dura and the skull base and discharge of CSF from the nose. CSF rhinorrhea commonly occurs as a result of fronto-basal skull fractures, extensive intracranial surgery or destructive lesion. Concomitant peri-orbital hematoma is very significant hence, patients with head injuries and features of periorbital haematoma are at greater risk of unobserved dural tear and delayed CSF leakage.The beta-2 transferrin assay is the confirmatory test of choice because of its high sensitivity and specificity. The presence of skull base fractures with clinical csf leak only computed tomography will suffice. Most of CSF rhinorrhea resolve spontaneously, but if persists for more than 7 days than will lead to bacterial meningitis as a consequence. Treatment regime should be planned keeping in mind the neurological status of the patient along with clinical and radiological findings.

Esthetics is important in today's age and people don't want to remain without teeth even for a day.Final restorations can vary between removableprosthesis, tooth-supported prosthesis or implant-supported prosthesis. Irrespective of the final treatment, the firstline of treatment would be to provisionally restore the patient's esthetic appearance while functionally stabilizingthe compromised arch.Teeth extracted can be used as natural tooth pontic for immediate temporization. It not only maintains the edentulous space but also relieves the patient's esthetic concern. This article discusses a case where extraction of a mobile tooth was done, followed by immediate implant placement and temporization with a natural tooth pontic.Following loss of a tooth, it is important that an immediate replacement is provided in order to avoid esthetic, masticatory, and phonetic difficulties, and to maintain the edentulous space.

Ebola has been found to spread through body fluids, which can make saliva a vital specimen for the detection and also as a mode of spread of Ebola. It is a major concern for dentists as we are in constant contact with body fluids like blood and saliva. No medicine or vaccination has still been approved for its cure. There are various ongoing research projects to find a vaccine against this virus.

Context: Aim: Materials and method: Results: Conclusion: Key words: Periodontal disease is one of the common inflammatory diseases with complex etiology and is multifactorial in origin. Several enzymes have been evaluated for the early diagnosis of periodontal disease. The enzyme Alkaline Phosphatase (ALP) plays a role in bone metabolism. In the periodontium, ALP is a very important enzyme as it is a part of normal turnover of periodontal ligament, root cementum, and bone homeostasis. Saliva is an easily collected fluid that contains locally and systemically derived markers of periodontal Disease. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the level of alkaline phosphatase activity in salivary sample from healthy subjects & patients with gingivitis & periodontitis. The study included 60 patients referred to Department of Oral & Maxillofacial Pathology and Microbiology, Santosh Dental College, Santosh University, Ghaziabad, U.P. They were divided into three groups, 20 healthy subjects, 20 subjects with gingivitis and 20 subjects with periodontitis. The clinical parameters including plaque index (PI), gingival index (GI), probing pocket depth (PPD) and clinical attachment loss (CAL) were recorded and salivary samples were collected for analysis of alkaline phosphatase (ALP) levels. Alkaline Phosphatase levels was analysed by autoanalyzer. A highly significant increase in mean value of clinical parameters was found in patients with periodontal disease (gingivitis and periodontitis) compared to healthy subjects. Also a highly significant increase in the mean value of alkaline phosphatase activity was illustrated as the severity of periodontal disease increased. Salivary alkaline phosphatase could be used as a useful marker for monitoring periodontal disease.

Coronal fractures of the permanent dentition are one of the most frequent type of dental injury. Reattachment of a fractured fragment to the remaining tooth is often challenging but one of the best treatment protocols in regards to aesthetics, function as well as patient acceptance. Reattachment should always be considered for young patients if the original tooth fragment is retained following fracture even though long term prognosis is uncertain. This clinical case series describes fragment reattachment of three different complicated fractured anterior teeth.12 months clinical and radiographic examination showed a stable re-attachment, good aesthetics and healthy periodontium

The practice will necessarily include a wide variety of patients seeking a diverse range of care. This article puts forward the state of the art of laser in prosthetic dentistry. Used in conjunction with or as a replacement for traditional methods, it is observed that specific laser technologies are becoming an essential component of contemporary dental practice over a decade.

The human face has been the subject of study since man could first express himself. During the Renaissance, da Vinci, Michaelangelo, and Duhrer led other artists to study faces. Facial proportion was discovered; there were standards set for balance and harmony of the lower face. Amongst all the research, the underlying theme that surfaced from all is the concept that there cannot be good balance and harmony in the lower face unless the vertical dimension is within normal limits. Hence the most important prerequisite for facial balance is a normal vertical dimension of the lower face.

Introduction. Athletes are at greater risk of having dental caries, dental erosion and traumatic dental injuries. So, evaluation of self-perception among athletes can be very effectively utilized in the process of their performance enhancement. Objective: Oral health self-assessment of the athletes using WHO questionnaire 2013. Materials and methods: A cross-sectional study was carried out in athletes in SMS Stadium, Jaipur. Self-assessment of athletes were carried out with the help of WHO proforma 2013. Results A total of 300 athletes were included with 217(72.3%) males and 83(27.66%) females in the age group 10-35 years with mean age 22±5.04 years. About 85 participant's self-perceived opinion about the condition of their gums and teeth was poor or very poor. The main reason for visit to the dentist was pain (39.33%). The most commonly consumed in between meal sweet snacks include tea, coffee, soft drinks and biscuits. Cigarette was the most common type tobacco consumed by 43% of participants. Conclusion. Poor self-perceived opinion about the condition of their gums and teeth was observed.Pain and discomfort from oral diseases affects athletics' performance.

Biomaterials (scaffolds) are used to guide the organization, growth and differentiation of cells in the process of forming functional tissue and provide both physical and chemical signals. The interaction of the scaffold with stem cell population is of great importance in guiding the size shape and differentiation of bioengineered dental tissues .

Solitary bone cyst (SBC) is an uncommon lesion that may be incidentally diagnosed in routine dental treatment. Clinical features may comprehend asymptomatic lesion, with no bone expansion, most commonly located on the posterior mandible area. Characteristic of the solitary bone cyst is a “scalloping effect” when the radiolucency extends between the roots of the teeth and interproximal bone. Microscopically the cyst is characterized by spaces of varying size, filled with unclotted blood surrounded by cellular fibroblastic tissue. Recommended treatment for SBCs is surgical exploration followed by curettage of an area of the bone to induce haemorrhage.

The use of dental implant in oro-dental rehabilitation is most widely accepted even though complications do arise. To obtain better success rate of dental implant, early diagnosis of peri-implant disease is essential. This will result in prevention and effective management of peri-implant disease. If not diagnosed properly, it is a devastating condition that will result in failures of prosthesis. Diagnosis is based on patient history, careful clinical examination, radiographic examination and microbiological analysis. Once the implant restoration is placed, baseline clinical measurement and radiographic assessment is essential to allow monitoring of peri-implant condition. In this article, we attempt to review the various diagnostic techniques used for the analysis of peri-implant disease.

Desmosomes are patch – like intercellular adhering junctions (“maculae adherents”), which, in concert with the related adherens junctions, provide the mechanical strength to the intercellular adhesion. Putative mechanisms for blistering in pemphigus vulgaris (PV) includes binding of anti- Dsg3 antibodies contained in PV IgG to free Dsg3 proteins on the interdesmosomal cell surface leading to their internalization into endosomes. Dsg3 proteins integrated in the core domain of desmosomes are excluded from these sites and possibly internalized into endosomes. The shortage of free Dsg3 on the cell membrane is due to its endocytosis. Exclusion of Dsg3 from desmosome core domains result in the formation of Dsg3-depleted desmosomes, the adhesion strength of which is decreased leading to acantholysis.

Dental implants have now become the first line of treatment for replacing missing teeth. Crestal and basal implants are endosseous aids to create Osseointegrated points of retention for fixed or removable prosthesis. However crestal implants are indicated, when an adequate vertical bone height is present. Whenever bone is lacking, instead of using adequate implants, bone augmentations are advocated and even risky bone transplants, wherein patient begins to suffer. Hallermann Strieff Syndrome, also known as Occulo-mandibulo Dyscephaly syndrome is a rare clinical entity of unknown etiology which involves multiple congenital abnormalities affecting chiefly the head and face, with over 150 cases reported in the literature worldwide. Dyscephaly, micropthalmia, cataracts, hypotrichosis, cutaneous atrophy, beak shaped nose and a typical bird face are the main features of the syndrome. We report a case of 13year old girl with Hallermann Strieff syndrome, with special considerations on oro-dental findings. Clinical, radiographic and cephalometric analysis revealed partial anodontia, irregularly developed teeth with altered morphology of the crowns, high arched V- shaped palate, micrognathia and hypoplasia of the mandible. The purpose of this case report is to discuss the features of Hallermann Strieff syndrome with the differential diagnosis and the overall management of the patient.

Purpose: To evaluate and compare flapless and conventional implant surgery along with immediate loading during a eight month period. Materials and Methods: Twelve patients having single tooth edentulous site, desiring and indicated for implant, were divided in Group A (Flapless Group) and Group B (Flap Group). All the implants were placed with a minimum torque of >35 Ncm and were immediately loaded. The final prosthesis was delivered on the 14th day. Outcome measures were implant mobility, postoperative swelling and pain, probing pocket depth, plaque index, and crestal bone level. Results: There were no statistically significant differences for probing pocket depth, plaque index and mean crestal bone level. However, statistically significant result was found while comparing pain and swelling. Patients experienced less pain and swelling in Group A compared to Group B. Conclusions: Implants can be successfully placed using flapless technique and loaded immediately, reducing treatment time and patient discomfort.
