Coronary heart disease (CHD) is worldwide health epidemic. Although age- specific events related to CHD have fallen dramatically in last few decades, overall prevalence has risen as population age & patients survive the initial coronary/cardiovascular events. We undertook this study to note level of serum uric acid in acute myocardial infarction (MI). Study was done in Dr. S. C. Govt. Medical College & Hospital, Nanded. Study includes 50 patients of acute MI and other 50 age and sex matched control. Serum uric acid level was estimated by uricase method on day 0, 3, 5 in the above patients. On day of admission mean serum uric acid was 7.3 in acute MI patients & in control it was 5.9. There was a statistically significant higher level of serum uric acid concentration in patients of acute MI on the day of admission as compared to control. Mean serum uric acid on day of admission, 3 day, and 5 day was 7.3, 5.6, and 4.5 respectively. Two patients who died after 3 days of hospital stay had serum uric acid level more 7 mg/dl. Serum uric acid levels are higher in patients with acute MI, it is good predictor of mortality after acute MI. Hyperuricemia is indicator of poor prognosis in acute MI.

Anatomical variations in the origin of the arteries in the abdominal area are very common. The arteries that show frequent variations include the coeliac trunk, renal and gonadal arteries. During a routine dissection of a male cadaver, one accessory left renal artery supplying polycystic kidney was found in the abdominal region. We discovered that the accessory left renal artery that originated from the left anterolateral aspect of abdominal aorta was running into the lower pole of the left kidney. The origin of the main left renal artery and the accessory left renal artery were 10mm and 12mm below the superior mesenteric artery, respectively. The accessory left renal artery run sinuously into the inferior pole of the left kidney associated with polycystic kidney disease, these anatomical variations and anomalies are important to know before any therapeutic or diagnostic procedures to be performed in the abdominal area.

Background: Sudarshan kriya yoga (SKY) is a unique breathing process advocated by The Art of Living foundation, Bangalore, India. Yogic breathing exercises decreases lipid peroxidation and improves antioxidant status in blood. This study aims to evaluate lipid peroxidation markers Malondialdehyde (MDA) and nitric oxide (NO) together with total antioxidant capacity (TAC) in fibrocystic breast disease patients. Method: Lipid peroxidation markers i.e. Malondialdehyde (MDA) and nitric oxide (NO) together with total antioxidant capacity (TAC) were evaluated using spectrophotometer (Elico Company) in serum of 30 fibrocystic breast disease patients with routine treatment (control group) and 30 fibrocystic breast disease patients with routine treatment along with sudarshan kriya yoga (SKY) (study group). Blood samples were collected from study group after 7 days of regular practice of sudarshan kriya yoga (SKY). Result: Serum MDA and NO were significantly decreased (p<0.001) with concomitant elevation levels of TAC in study group when compared to control group (p<0.001). Relationship between lipid peroxidation markers i.e. MDA and NO with total antioxidant capacity TAC were inversely related in both groups. Conclusion: Sudarshan kriya yoga practice may improve natural defense system/mechanism and decreases efficacy of oxidative stress in fibrocystic breast disease. However further extensive and long term studies to be done to prove these findings and understand the basic mechanism involved.

AIM: To study the morphology of proximal part of inferior phrenic artery. OBJECTIVES: To determine the vertebral level of origin of inferior phrenic artery bilaterally and to note variations of the proximal part of inferior phrenic artery. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Fifty embalmed cadavers were dissected. The vertebral level of origin and variations were noted. RESULTS: The vertebral level of origin of inferior phrenic artery was located at the level of IVD T12-L1 in 30% cases on the right side and in 25.5% cases on the left side. In 3/50 (6%) cases on the right side and in 4/51(7.8%) on the left side, inferior phrenic artery arose from the celiac trunk. In 20/50 (40%) cases, inferior phrenic artery arose bilaterally from celiac trunk. Out of these 20 cases, it arose as a common trunk from celiac trunk in 4 (8%) cases & as an independent origin from celiac trunk in 16 (32%) cases. In 1/50 (2%) cases on the right side and in 1/51 (1.96%) cases on the left side, inferior phrenic artery arose from superior mesenteric artery. In 2/50 (4%) cases on the right side, inferior phrenic artery arose from the renal artery. In 1/50 (2%) cases on the left side, there were presence of 2 inferior phrenic arteries, both arising from the celiac trunk. CONCLUSION: The present study provides a comprehensive data about the proximal part of the inferior phrenic artery which will help in interpretation of radiographs and during surgery of different types of abdominal pathology in Indian population. Awareness of these variations can prevent potential intra-operative and post-operative complications.
