The topic of this study is Dehumanization and Mechanization of The Working Class in Lawrence’s ‘Women in Love’. The primary intention of this study is to elaborate how the English working class in the mid-19th century was dehumanized as presented by Lawrence in Women in Love and his resistance towards mechanization of humans. During the mid-19th century industrial revolution led to dehumanization of the working class of England. The working class attempted to gain their humanity back through The Chartist Movement, by political reforms and establishing good communication with the masters, speaking up about the miseries and the injustices and dehumanization of the working class. The progress of the industrial revolution during the mid 19th century led to the dehumanization of the working class of England by numerous attitudes and behaviors of the employers and owners of the factories. Dehumanization included the alienation of laborers and workers by the masters who refused to give heed to the miseries and sufferings of the workers considering them only to be machines used to increase and pile up their wealth and fortune. D. H. Lawrence in his novel Women in Love, by elaborating the human psychology and understanding, provides a fertile field of inquiry to find out his attitude toward industrialization and technology in relation to human behavior and perception. In this article the focus is primarily on the gladiatorial scene of Women in Love through the lens of Lawrence's appropriation of the scientific concept of allotropy to describe the constituent elements of human nature.

A typical feminine quality assigned to a mother is of a nurturer who protects her children. But what are the consequences when she does otherwise? These plays depict the actions taken by the women that the society doesn’t associate to their role as a mother and doesn’t approve of them. The author will be looking at several tragedies and analyse the characters of the mothers. The author will be looking at the act of maternal filicide. So, this comes to us as a shock because we are not ready to accept this aspect of her character. Abbie kills her own son to prove her love for Eben and Bernarda Alba, a matriarch who controls the lives of the women around her, doesn’t shed a tear at the suicide of her daughter and exempts anyone from doing so. By the means of this study, The author wants to show that a mother is a human and she functions according to her desires and passions and they are allowed to diverge from their so-called perfect roles. They have been trying to break away from the stigma of being perfect and their stereotypical role of a selfless being. They want to place the individual above the society’s image of a mother. The author will compare and contrast the motherly and the un-motherly characteristics.

This paper explores the intertextual elements between Jordan Peele’s Get Out and Shakespeare’s Othello. The researcher applies Bazerman’s model of intertextuality to examine the similarities and differences between Peele’s movie and Shakespeare’s play. In comparing Get Out to Othello, the paper argues that, not only do both texts centre on an accomplished Black man who is forced to confront the racist assumptions of white society, but it also explores how that white society mobilises stereotypes in order to manipulate and nullify Black agency. From the intertextuality perspective, the paper argues that there are noticeable narrative and thematic parallels in Get Out film and Othello. Although the selected texts differ in their genre, the geography and period of time where and when they were produced, they manifest similar events and themes. The American movie Get Out surfaces such themes of racial stereotyping and treachery much like how Othello exposes these themes. The main objective of this paper is to demonstrate how Peele recontextualises and reconfigures the racial dynamics of Shakespeare’s Othello in the so-called “post-racial” America and how he positions himself in relation to these racial issues. An intertextual reading of the two selected texts will widen the scope of understanding each of these aspects and reveal how intertextuality works between these two literary pieces.

This paper intends to analyse William Golding’s 1956 novel Pincher Martin in the light of decolonisation and the resultant loss of empire and also their effect on the British psyche. That the novel is usually read a moral tale of salvation and damnation, but it can also be read as a reflex action of a dead colonialist’s consciousness or a psychological reaction to the end of colonies. This consciousness gathers itself as a centre and continues to act in the line of colonialism even after his death, without even being aware of his death. Apparently a survivor of a torpedo attack, Pincher Martin finds himself on a rock, which can be seen as a margin and which he tries to dominate and subjugate by using the tools of colonialism. However, this diehard colonialist is destroyed and defeated on the rock by black lightning. The novel is a moral allegory, but it is also an allegory of the confrontation of the centre and the margin presented in geographical terms. Geographically Great Britain is an island, and its expansion through colonialism is a part of its ‘island complex’ and claustrophobia.

The primary objective of the paper is to investigate the chosen literary text with different aspects of intersectionality, under the perspective of gendered subalternity, experienced by the female characters of Naga tribes portrayed in the work. Further, the article interprets the horrendous turmoil of gendered marginalisation and discrimination imposed by the authoritative bureaucrats of the nation state through physical abuses and social customary laws against tribal women. The ways that the patriarchal view and the prevalence of unbalanced power relations in the society shatter the intersectional identities of tribal women are discussed in detail. Temsula Ao’s short stories “The Last Song” and “The Night” from the collection These Hills Called Home: Stories from a War Zone are chosen to construe with the thematic notions of intersectionality.

Voices from the margins are reduced to muffled screams, drowned out by the din of mainstream discourse. Growing louder often results in more systematised and deliberate effort to mute them. Rioting against this and practicing his politics of resistance through poetry, Namdeo Dhasal wrote “unsanitary” poems that marked the very essence of being a liminal figure in Indian social and political life – a Dalit. His writing encapsulates this liminality by depicting the peculiarity of the Dalit’s position on the cusp of Indian society, i.e., both within it and outside it. The following comment beseeches readers to re-orient themselves and reconsider pre-existing dichotomies – of inside/outside, beauty/ugliness, and poetry/politics. This exercise becomes important for the poetics of life as well as the poetics of politics, enabling newer languages and manifestations of art to present themselves. The comment ends by considering Dhasal’s controversial personal life as a husband – asking the often-dreaded question of severing the artist from his art.

Sigmund Freud's concept of Oedipus complex deals with the fact that boys will be sexually attracted towards their mother and will focus their hatred towards their father. But threatened by their more powerful father they will try to imitate their father and forms a super-ego based on morality. Something very similar happens with the girl child also, where she is attracted to her father but due to the threat from her father she tries to associate with her mother. In William Faulkner's, The Sound and the Fury, we see a very distorted version of this Oedipus Complex where due to lack of any proper mother figure, how two brother projected this complex on their sister Caddy. Caddy, the daughter, in the absence of motherly attention, assumes the role of a mother substitute to her brothers. However, her brothers react differently to such absence. The mentally challenged Benjy is comfortable taking Caddy just as a mother figure but Quentin, the other brother, in the absence of any fatherly threat develops an incestuos feelings for his sister.

Huxley’s Brave New World (1932) offers a nightmarish portrait of a futuristic world where human beings are reduced to the level of automations for establishing stability. In fact, Huxley’s portrayal of the World State is heavily influenced by the socio-political climate of his time. Contemplating the possible misuse of emerging technologies by rulers for perpetuation of power, Huxley attempts to alert the readers about the perils of mass culture which diminish people’s ability to think critically. Brushed aside as an insignificant work by many critics initially, the novel’s social relevance and Huxley’s concern for social welfare was later felt, the application of Marxist and Neo-Marxist literary principles to it indicating that it continues to remain relevant in the twenty-first century. Marxism interprets history in terms of class struggle. It affirms that the modes of production of material life condition social, political and intellectual life process in general. The Marxian notion that those who control material production have control over the rest of the society is taken literally in Huxley’s Brave New World where the World State owns the production of human progeny. However, the production of babies in Hatcheries, chemical conditioning of embryos and hypnopaedia ensure that class struggle is avoided in the imaginary world, as the citizens are made to accept their social status without dissent. It would, however, be simplistic to assume that Huxley’s dystopia aims merely to terrorise modern society. In the words of Raffaella Baccolini “…utopia is always maintained … only outside the text” (520) and the readers are expected to consider dystopias only as warnings, so that they can prevent them from becoming reality.
