The present investigation was undertaken to find the impact of Anxiety among women. The emotional competence scale was administered on 245 women of Vadodara district. Sinha's Anxiety scale was used. Data were analysis by‘t’ test. Result show there is difference found in level of Anxiety among working male and female. Workings female have higher Anxiety compare with working male. There is difference found in level of Anxiety among working male and female of high and low Socio-Economic status. Male and female of high socio-economic status have lower Anxiety compare with male and female of low socio-economic status.

Organizational climate is a relatively enduring quality of the internal environment of an organization and is the recurring patterns of behavior, attitudes and feelings that characterize life in the organization. Organizational culture is a system of shared assumptions, values and beliefs that governs how people behave in organizations. The culture of an organization provides boundaries and guidelines that help members of the organization know the correct way to perform their jobs. The study was conducted on 334 primary school teachers from Medak district of Telangana State. The result reveals that there is a significant difference in Organizational climate with respect to gender and management among primary school teachers.

The study was conducted on a sample of 320 high school students situated in Ranchi District. The main purpose of this research work has to see the impact of parental behaviour on adolescent’s frustration level. Three dimensional parental behaviour inventory developed by Ojha( 2009) and Frustration test developed by Chauhan and Tiwari (1972) were used for data collection work. The stratified random sampling technique was used during data collection. The main results indicate that adolescents having restrictive parents experience significantly more frustration as compared to adolescents having permissive parents. Result further revealed that restrictive father groups are more frustrated than permissive groups (‘t’=2.82;P<0.01).

Objective: - Suicide is third leading cause of death among modern youth and second leading cause of death among college students. The present study examined effect of gender and faculty on suicidal tendency among students. Method: - This study is based on sample of 100 students divided into two groups 50 males and 50 females. In each group 25 students have science & 25 have arts subjects. Samples were selected through sample random sampling method. The suicidal tendency among the students was measured by Suicidal Tendency Scale constructed by Dr. D. J. Bhatt and Dr. R. G. Meghnathi. Mean & ANOVA were applied for data analysis. Results: - The results of the present study demonstrated that female student’s shows high suicidal tendency than male students as the mean score of female students (74.38) is more than mean score of male students (71.06). Results also revealed that students from science faculty have also high suicidal tendency than arts students as the obtained mean scores of science students (76.88) is more than mean scores of students of arts faculty (68.56). Conclusions: - Female and science students have high suicidal tendency than male students and arts students.

Yoga has become more popular than ever, with celebrities, politicians, business people, and almost every walk of life currently practicing. The word yoga is Sanskrit for Yoke, or union. In the practice of yoga we seek to create union between the mind and body. Yoga is dynamite to make you feel younger and healthy with heightened mental prowness. Longer life often results from following yogic ways of health maintenance. When both external dangers and internal diseases and habits leading to degeneration have been removed, one naturally lives healthy and longer.

A little bit of anxiety is normal; in fact, just like salt in the food, it is needed so that we remain disciplined, focused and aspired. The problem starts when this anxiety becomes so persistent as to start interfering with our daily life, and this is where yoga can help. The major aim of this research study was to explore the effect of yoga on educational aspiration and test anxiety of girls at the junior college level. A sample of 60 college going girls (age 17-18 years) was selected purposely from Nagpur, India. Data were collected by using the Educational Aspiration Scale (EAS) by V. P. Sharma and Test Anxiety Scale (TAS) developed by Sarason and Sarason. Student’s paired t-test was applied for data analysis. It was found that a significant difference exists between two groups. Results showed that practice of yoga in a day to day life contributes significant enhancement of educational aspiration and considerable reduction of test anxiety. Therefore, it was concluded that making yoga a part of one’s routine would help students in dealing with test anxiety and improving their aspiration towards education.

Teachers are building block of a nation. Teacher’s role is very crucial in the growth of a country so that there is need to assess for improvement of their skills. The present study deals with job satisfaction among the teachers of private and public sector educational institute of west Bengal. Attempts were also made to assess their level of happiness and quality of inter personal relationship. The sample size was 100 divided into 2 groups i.e., private sector and public sector teacher. Each group was consisted respondents age ranging between 25-50 years and having minimum 2 years of job experience and each group was further divided into two sub groups i.e. male (n=25) and female (n=25). The data were collected from teaching employees of several private and public educational institutes (higher secondary schools, colleges, universities) of west Bengal. It reveals that public sector employees were found to be more satisfied than the private sector employees in their job and the similar result was also revealed for level of happiness and quality of interpersonal relationship. Furthermore, significant correlation has been found between job satisfaction and level of happiness and between job satisfaction and interpersonal relationship among the teachers of private and public sector institutes of west Bengal.

A structured behaviour modification programme relatively improves the various skill behaviours among children with intellectual disabilities as well as decreases the problematic behaviours, when it is used in a systematic way in school classrooms. Present study represents the effect of systematic representation of differential reinforcements to decrease the problematic behaviours among the children with intellectual disabilities. The main objective of the present study was to study the effect of differential reinforcements in decreasing problematic behaviours among children with intellectual disability. This study was conducted on the sample of twenty students, selected from the Regional Institute for Mentally Handicapped Chandigarh, with informed consent of parents with pre selected inclusion and exclusion criteria and randomly assigned to the two groups. Experimental group was treated by the experimenter with intervention package after pre test up to 60 sessions and control group was remained untreated. After the treatment and analysis, experimenter found that students of experimental group who treated with the treatment package have significant decrease in problematic behaviours with t value 8.450, in comparison to control group.

Background of the study: This paper aims to find out the effects of Yoga, Exercise and Prayers on the quality of life of people. It is found that people who regularly practice yoga or do exercise and indulge in continuous prayers which is a kind of meditation are healthier and living a peaceful life. It gives them an inner strength which is helpful in leading a quality of life. Practising yoga or exercise and the daily prayers unites the mind and the heart of the individual and people are able to perceive the inner and outer world more positively. Material and Method: 30 subjects aged 18-60 years who regularly practice yoga or any exercise and indulge in regular prayer will be randomly taken and the questionnaire of WHO quality of life (WHOQOL-BREF) will be administered. Result and Discussion: The result of this study shows that there is a positive effect of yoga, exercise and prayer on the quality of life. Individuals who practise yoga, exercise and indulge in daily prayers are more satisfied healthy and there is a connection between their mind and body.

The present research was conducted in order to understand the occupational stress faced by the police personnel of Gujarat state and their levels of Job satisfaction with their lives. A total sample of 120 (60 males and 60 females) were taken for the study. Out of the 120 sample, 60 were armed and 60 were Unarmed Police Offices. Occupational Stress scale developed by A.K Shrivastava and A. P. Singh and Job Satisfaction scale developed by Singh and Sharma were used to gather data. The analysis of data was completed using t-test. The results of this study indicate that there is no significant difference in Occupational stress of Armed and Unarmed Police officers and similarly there is no significant difference in Occupational stress of Male and Female Police officers of both the groups. Moreover there is no significant difference in job satisfaction level of Armed and Unarmed Police officers. There is a significant difference in Job satisfaction level of Male and Female Police officers which indicates that Female police officers have higher levels of Job satisfaction than Male Police officers.

Disaster is defined as a crisis situation causing wide spread damage which far exceeds our ability to recover. Disaster is a sudden, calamitous event bringing great damage, loss, destruction and devastation to life and property. The damage caused by disaster is immeasurable and varies with the geographical location, climate and the type of the earth surface. Natural disasters are relatively sudden and cause large scale, widespread death, loss of property and disturbance to social systems and life over which people have a little or no control. Thus, any event can be classed as disaster when the magnitude of destruction and damage caused by it is very high. Communities will always face natural hazards, but today’s disasters are often generated by, or at least exacerbated by, human activities. At the most dramatic level, human activities are changing the natural balance of the earth, interfering as never before with the atmosphere, the oceans, the polar ice caps, the forest cover and the natural pillars that make our world a liveable home. But we are also putting ourselves in harm’s way in less visible ways. This paper seeks to determine the natural disasters, causes and consequences and its prevention. Nature is bountiful full of resources used by the living organisms use for their survival and well-being. But nature has its own control systems. Resources used up are replenished excesses are checked, all naturally through the biogeochemical cycles, the food chains and webs and other natural phenomena. Thus equilibrium is maintained in nature. This is called ecological balance and has in recent times been disturbed by human activities.

Mathematics is a compulsory subject at school level. The performance of students in mathematics is not satisfactory at secondary school level. Some of the factors that are attributed to the unsatisfactory performance include: anxiety and fear towards the subject by students, ineffective instructional methods, class room climate and learning environment which are not supportive for students’ participation. The purpose of the study was to investigate the effect of cooperative learning strategy in mathematics on students’ performance from positive psychology perspective. In addition to performance this study also sought to find out students perception towards cooperative learning strategy. The sample of the study consisted of 60 students divided in to two groups of 30.In the experimental group cooperative learning strategy was employed while in the controlled group traditional instructional method was used. Scholastic achievement test and Questionnaire on cooperative learning was used to collect the data. Data was analysed by using statistical techniques including “t” test. The study supports the effectiveness of cooperative learning strategy in mathematics education.

The aim of the present investigation is to study the general health status as opined by the non smokers, controlled regular smokers, chain smokers and ex smokers and their wives. Accordingly, a group of 50 non smokers, 50 controlled regular smokers, 50 chain smokers and 50 ex smokers and their wives were selected as sample in this investigation. In this investigation differences in general health status between different categories of smokers and non smokers were studied as well as the differences between direct smokers and passive smokers also investigated by collecting data from the wives of smokers and non smokers. A general information schedule and General Health Questionnaire were used as tools in this investigation. The findings reveal that members of each group are belongs to non psychiatric category. It may be caused due to mainly for they are satisfied with the way they are carried out their task, capable of making decisions about things, been able to enjoy their normal day to day activities etc.

Objective: To assess the effectiveness of guided imaginary techniques on examination anxiety among the school adolescent’s. Methods: The sample consisted of 60 students (30 were in control group and 30 were in experimental group) aged 14 to 16 years studying in class IX and X at matriculation schools in Madurai. The examination anxiety was measured using Test Anxiety Questionnaire. Results: Of the 30 control group students, 63% had unhealthy anxiety in pretest and in post test it was 70%, whereas in experimental group, among the 30 students, 57% had unhealthy anxiety in pretest but in post test it was 0%, there is no unhealthy anxiety. There was a significant difference seen between control group and experimental group after teaching the imagery techniques. (Mean score in control group - 34.93, in experimental group - 17.83, P < 0.000). Conclusion: The results indicate that guided imagery technique is effective in reducing the examination anxiety among school students. And it will help to reduce anxiety of students at all levels of examination to perform good in their academic especially in board examination. Further research may help in guide policy on education to improve the teaching methodology allowing the students to control the anxiety on exam.

Out of total sample of the study 72.7 % adolescents were homozygous and 76.7 % were heterozygous. Male and females of Age group 14-16 years were maximum number. Percentage of heterozygous males complaining somatic problems is higher, whereas percentage of homozygous females complaining somatic problems is high. There is significant positive relationship between Maladaptive coping style and somatic problems. Somatic problems emerge as significant predictor in variation of criterion variable somatic problems. The t values explain significant difference in somatic complaints among sickle cell adolescents with respect to gender and zygosity.

Background: 2 decades of research had found that comorbid disorders occur in children with ADHD more than by chance. The role of comorbidities in influencing the self-esteem of children with ADHD is still less explored. Aims: To study the various domains of self-esteem in children with ADHD and to evaluate the effect of comorbidities on low self-esteem in ADHD children. Methods And Materials: 60 subjects aged 6 to 16 years who were diagnosed based on DSM IV as ADHD were recruited with informed consent, from tertiary care hospital for a period of 6 months by consecutive sampling. Based on detailed interview of subjects and parents using the Semi structured assessment schedule K- SADS - PL for comorbidities, children with ADHD were grouped as those with and without comorbidities. While severity of ADHD was assessed by Conner’s Parent’s 10 item abbreviated index, self-esteem was assessed by Culture free self-esteem inventory. Results: Parent related self-esteem was lower in ADHD children with comorbid internalizing disorders when compared to ADHD children with comorbid externalizing disorders. Higher severity of ADHD and longer duration of ADHD correlated with lower self-esteem, (especially social domain). Conclusions: Comorbidities definitely influence the level of self-esteem in children with ADHD, but other factors also need to be considered for optimal management of low self-esteem.

The present study aimed to assess the level of adjustment of post-graduate science and social science students. It was hypothesized that post-graduate science students have lower adjustment than post-graduate social science students. It was also hypothesized that post-graduate social science male students have lower adjustment than post-graduate social science female students. Post-graduate science male students have lower adjustment than post-graduate science female students. In order to verify the above hypotheses a sample of 160 subjects with science and social-science background were selected from the Karnatak University Dharwad, Karnatak, India. Each group consist to 80 subjects with male (N=40) and female (N=40). To measure the adjustment, Adjustment Inventory developed and standardized by Asthana (1967) was administered individually, it has 42 items. The data were subjected to ‘t’ analyses and the major findings of the study revealed that the science post-graduate students have significantly higher level of adjustment than social-science post-graduate students. There is no significant difference between the male students of social science and science departments and also the female students of science departments. There is significant difference between the science male and science female students on adjustment pattern.

Ever since women began entering the work force the debate has been looming over mothers who enter the work force and those who choose to remain at home with their children. Such concerns are whether or not having a working mother negatively affects their children emotionally and/or academically. Another concern is the stress level a working mother faces daily. The present study assessed the impact of maternal employment on achievement motivation of adolescents. The sample consisted of 80 children of employed mothers and 80 children of homemakers. Further the sample was bifurcated on the basis of gender (40 boys and 40 girls). Costello Achievement Motivation Scale (CAMS) adapted by Misra, O.P & Srivastava, S.K, 1990was administered to the selected sample to assess their achievement motivation. The obtained data was treated with the help of Mean, SD, t-test and ANOVA. Analysis of the results revealed that children of employed mothers had higher achievement motivation as compared to the children of homemakers. Further, findings indicated that adolescent girls of employed mothers scored higher on achievement motivation as compared to adolescent boys of homemakers.

Introduction: Stuttering is a developmental speech disorder with multiple etiological factors. Cognitive behavior therapy (CBT) has shown effectiveness in reducing anxiety symptoms and dysfluent speech in adults who stutter (AWS). So we planned to study the comparative efficacy of CBT and CBT combined with mindfulness training (MT) in AWS. Aims: The aim of this preliminary study was to examine and compare the efficacy of CBT and CBT combined with MT in reducing anxiety symptoms, and dysfluent speech and increasing communication attitude, quality of life, self-esteem and speech fluency in AWS. Method and Materials: A matched two group pre-test and post-test interventional design was employed. The sample consisted of ten adults with the diagnosis of stuttering (ICD-10, 1992) who were randomly allotted to Group One (CBT; N=5) and Group Two (CBT+MT; N=5). The therapeutic program included 15-20 sessions of one hour each. Statistical Analysis: Obtained data was analyzed using Wilcoxon Sign Rank Test for within group, before and after intervention, comparison and Mann Whitney U Test for between group comparisons. Results: Significant difference in both CBT group and CBT+MT group is observed in the area of communication attitude (U=1.00, p<0.05). Conclusion: The finding of the study show that CBT combined with MT is more effective in treatment of AWS than CBT alone.

Gender differences in various psychological constructs are a common phenomenon. This study has been designed to investigate the gender differences if any, in the reasons given for academic procrastination in undergraduate students. For this purpose, 200 high academic procrastinators (113 males and 87 females) in the age group 17-19 years were selected by administering PAAS. The frequency of the reasons given by high procrastinators was calculated by using percentage analysis. Laziness and time management were the two most cited explanations for procrastination. The reasons given by both the genders were compared using chi square. Results revealed that gender does not influence the excuses that males and females provide for academic procrastination.

Spirituality is considered culturally competent therapeutic intervention for domestic violence survivors. Limited number of studies have specifically emphasized at their experiences and needs. Women with abusive life partners use various strategies to cope , deal and heal from the physical and psychological violence. It is reported that their belief in a higher power is integral to their healing. Thus to study the role of spirituality as a tool for healing among domestic violence survivors , a sample of 50 married women who survived domestic violence were examined. For this purpose, the Revised Conflict Tactics scale (CTS-2; Straus, Hamby, Boney-McCoy & Sugarman, 1996); Daily Spiritual experiences Scale (DSE; Underwood &Teresi, 2002) and Beck Depression Inventory for depressive symptoms were used. Results indicate significant role of spirituality in healing women survivors. The majority reported that spirituality or God was a source of strength or comfort for them. Extent of spiritual involvement indicated increased psychological well-being and decreased depression.

The purpose of the current study was (i) to find out the role self-efficacy and locus of control of the high and low performing job aspirants (ii) to study the Gender differences of the job aspirants. A random sample of 465 job aspirants males (n=264) and females (n=201) was selected from participants appeared in the Service Selection Board of Mysore. Participants belong to various part of India and their age ranges were between 20 to 27 years with Mean of 21.85 years and SD 1.15 years. Self-efficacy was measured using the General Self-efficacy Scale by Jerusalem & Schwarzer, 1995) and the Locus of Control Scale by Rotter, J.B (1966). The data was analyzed using descriptive statistics (mean, S.D) and ANOVA. The results indicated that there were no significant differences in their self-efficacy of performing and non-performing groups. Further no significant gender differences were found in Self-efficacy. In addition both men and women were differed in their Locus of control and females were found to be external locus of control. The study brought out that high self-efficacy with internal locus of control influence the participants perform well in their field to attain success.

There is much interest in, whether death anxiety may explain the wide variability in the disease course of patients infected with Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV). This paper examines whether death anxiety varies across Asymptomatic Acute HIV condition, Clinically Symptomatic Condition and AIDS Indicator Condition. A cross sectional research design is employed and participants were grouped as having asymptomatic, clinically symptomatic and AIDS according to case definitions established by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. The data is obtained from 480 participants on the level of death anxiety and it is analysed with reference of their disease progression from HIV to AIDS. A one way ANOVA statistics indicated that Asymptomatic acute HIV condition, Clinically symptomatic HIV condition and AIDS indicator groups were significantly differ in the level of death anxiety. A Tukey’s HSD post-hoc test indicated that clinically symptomatic acute HIV condition group had exhibited higher level of death anxiety than asymptomatic acute HIV condition group and lower level of death anxiety compared to AIDS indicator group. By knowing the varied level of death anxiety across disease progression the tailor made interventions can be planned.

Substance dependence is a chronic and highly prevalent condition leading to dysfunction in personal, occupational and social area that can occur during periods of heavy alcohol consumption and even following treatment. According to WHO estimates in year 2010, 3.4-6.6 per cent of the world’s population in age group of 15-64 had used an illicit substance at least once in their life (WHO, 2012). Illicit drug use globally led deaths in range of 99,000 to 253,000 in the year 2010 (WHO, 2012). Recent report of WHO (2014) suggests that 38.3% of the global population consume alcohol and on an average, an individual over 15 years of age consume 6.2 litres of alcohol annually. Thus drug dependence has become a worldwide crisis as it is associated with adverse social and economic consequences as well as physical and mental illness.

The study was undertaken to identify the sources of stress among students of high and low academic performance. The questionnaire was administered on 656 pure science and applied science under graduate students from Bangalore city. Academic performance is referred to the end-term results in the previous semester. The tool used for the present study was Stressful Life Events Inventory - Student form (Rao, 1986). The findings of the study showed that majority of the students’ perceived education as more stressful. High and low academic performing students as well as pure and applied science course students differed significantly on sources of stress. The aim of the research was to determine the effect of life satisfaction on suicidal ideation for both male and female undergraduate students. Data were collected from 120 students (60 male and 60 female) who were purposively chosen from University of Chittagong of Bangladesh. To measure the constructs, Bangla version of life satisfaction and suicidal ideation scales were used in the present study. Results revealed that there were no significant gender differences in life satisfaction and suicidal ideation. But the participants who had bitter experiences in romantic relationship significantly scored higher on suicidal ideation than who had not (t = 2.76, p < .01). There was found a significant negative correlation coefficient between life satisfaction and suicidal ideation (r = -.316, p < .01). A simple regression analysis confirmed that life satisfaction was a strong predictor (β = -.466, p < .001) and explained 21% variation of suicidal ideation for female students. Whereas life satisfaction did not significantly predict suicidal ideation of male students (β = -1.66, p > .05).

Students in the modern and fast changing world are trying to choose their career in such a way which would ultimately help them to achieve their success in life. Career choice is a major life decision. Each and every individual is coping with dynamic world and its demands. The present investigation has been designed to study the personality factors and impact of parental and social influence on career choice of the students who want to choose their career as engineer. Accordingly, a group of 120 higher secondary students (under West Bengal Council of Higher Secondary Education) were selected as sample in this investigation. On the other hand, another group of 30 professionals who are engaged in the profession as engineer were also selected as sample in this investigation. Four tools, viz., (a) General Information Schedule (one for the students and the other for professionals), (b) Sixteen Personality Factors [Form-C] Questionnaire (1965), (c) Perceived Impact of Parental Influence Questionnaire and (d) Perceived Impact of Social Influence Questionnaire were used in this investigation. The overall findings reveal that those who want to choose their career as engineer is matched with the professionals. Personality factors take a vital role regarding career choice. The findings also reveal that there seems to be indication of moderate level of parental as well as social influence on career choice. Besides this, monthly income of the family and gender difference also have significant role in connection with career choice. Adequate measures may be taken by parents, teachers, counselors and other well-wishers who are able to help the students to choose a particular career for their future development.

Introduction: Today evaluations of psychological indicators have a non new found role on the process of psychological evolution. One of these important indicators is memory. Purpose: the current research has the purpose of indicating the right norm from the Wechsler's school memory sub-test software on girl and boy students studying at pre-university level in the city of Tehran in the 87-88 school year. Procedure: this research by nature is a descriptive study and of a survey and normalization type which has applicative aspects. For this purpose a sample of 370 people (N=370) consisting of 170 men and 200 women from between students at the pre-university level of the province of Tehran were selected by using multistage cluster sampling. To evaluate constructive validity and factorial structure of this test, factorial test was used and to compare the averages of the two groups (girl and boy) an independence t test was used. Also to calculate the final test coefficient from the internal consistency method calculation of Cronbach's alpha coefficient has been used and from the retest method calculation of Pearson's correlation coefficient between the scores obtained from two times performing the test has been used. Findings: the results obtained from the research showed between all of the 8 dimensions of Wechsler's memory in the space of two performance in the frame of retest a positive meaningful relation exists (p<0/0001). Also the highest rate of correlation belonged to the reverse visual memory component (r=0/83) and the lowest index of correlation belonged to the auditory memory span component (r=0/40). Validation by using the retest method showed that between all the dimensions in the frame of two computer performance and a monthly retest a meaningful correlation exists among which the sum of the auditory memory (r=0/82) had the highest correlation and the sum of the visual memory (r=0/53) showed the lowest correlation. By using the independent t test comparison of the average score of boys and girls in the multiple memory dimensions showed that between the two groups considering the dimensions no meaningful difference exists (p>0/05). Conclusion: the current research findings can be considered in the application areas and in the area of psychometrics it can open the path.

Stereotypes can be referred as conditioned reflexes which have become subconscious and automatic. In the present study efforts have been made to figure out how work stress affects motion stereotype. The study was performed on a group of pole manufacturing workers (n=44) having the age group of 45-54 years. The work related stress was evaluated in terms of CSI (Cardiovascular Stress Index) of the subjects on the basis of their heart rates. The subjects were divided into three groups (light stress, moderate stress and high stress) according to the percentile values of CSI. Direction of motion stereotype was determined for different control-display units, viz., rotary control knob and horizontal display , rotary control knob and vertical display, rotary control knob and circular display, and rocker switch in horizontal and vertical alignment for ‘on’ and ‘off’ response. Index of reversibility of the direction of motion stereotype was determined. Experiments were also performed for right and left handed workers separately. The response initiation time of the workers was computed by a digital timer. Results showed that there was no significant difference in the direction of motion stereotype between left and right handed workers. Significant difference (p<0.05 or less) in the direction of motion stereotype of the workers was observed in most of the control display combinations among different stress levels. The index of reversibility was decreased with increased stress level. It may be concluded that work related stress had a notable effect on motion stereotypic responses of the factory workers.

Autism is a Neuro-developmental disability characterized by severe social, communicative and cognitive deficits, resulting in significant lifelong disability. Autism requires long-term treatment, yet, despite the severity of this disorder, some children achieve remarkable long lasting gains. Over the years, many studies have been published on comprehensive treatment approaches that seek to reduce the general level of impairment in autism. An increasing body of empirical research suggests that early, intensive, structured intervention, based on the principles of applied behavior analysis, is effective in remediating the intellectual, linguistic, and adaptive deficits associated with autism. Early intervention programs are indeed beneficial for children with autism, often improving developmental functioning and decreasing maladaptive behaviors and symptom severity at the level of group analysis. To study the efficacy of early intensive behavioral intervention, 40 children were selected and two groups were formed. Written consent was taken from parents. Therapy was provided at the centre for autism spectrum disorder, Sweekaar Academy of Rehabilitation. Individual intervention and pre-post design was used for the study. Each group consisting 20 children diagnosed with autism between age group of 3 to 6 years. Group-I received intensive behavioral intervention 4 hours 6 days a week for 1year and Group-II received regular treatment for the same period. Pre-post assessment was done by VSMS, DST, GDT, and ISSA. Result indicates significant improvement in the domain of Social Relationship and Reciprocity (SRR), Emotional Responsiveness (ER), Speech Language and Communication (L&C), Behavior Patterns (BP), Cognitive Components (CC) Sensory Aspects (SA) and intellectual ability.

The aim of the study is to determine the factors of Life Satisfaction among the Clergy from Indian Orthodox Church in central Travancore, Kerala state. For this study the researcher takes the 75 samples, 25 each from three diocese namely Thumpamon, Kollam and Kottayam. The study is primarily an empirical research using Quantitative methods. The following objectives were proposed for the study.1. To study the life satisfaction of the clergy of the Indian Orthodox Church. 2. To study the impact of Diocese, Age income, Education, Marital status, Duration in Ministry, Number of families in parish, Employment status of spouse, Living arrangement, Number of children, Occupation of children, on the life satisfaction of the study group. 3. To study the life satisfaction of the married and unmarried clergy of the Indian Orthodox Church. From the analysis we found that the major factors affecting the life satisfaction are age, income and number of families in the parish. Also there is no difference between the Life Satisfaction among married and unmarried Clergy. The secular education and marital status have a diminutive influence over the life satisfaction of the clergy. The study concluded with suggestions to the Church, Asrams and Family of the Clergy.

Caste affiliated surnames are very common in India. In fact, they convey a lot of caste stereotypes about the bearer. This is a subtle way of practicing caste based identities and related discriminations. The current study is a content analysis of the surnames of leading fictional characters in Hindi TV serials and movies to see if TV and cinema propagate caste stereotypes through surnames of their fictional characters. The result shows excessive use of upper caste affiliated surnames used both in TV serials and cinema while surnames affiliated to lower castes have negligible presence in these programmes.

The study was aimed to investigation the effect of mental health on male and female students. Mental Health Inventory was administered on 50 early adolescents (25 male and 25 female) from different schools of Ranchi. These two groups were further divided according to their socio-economic status. Data was analyzed using mean, standard deviation and‘t’ value. The findings revealed that there was significant difference between male and female students on their mental health level. Male students are more mentally healthy than female students (‘t’=7.48., P<.01). Result further revealed that socio-economic status has no significant effect on mental health.

Empathy, as a factor has been widely researched about in counselling and clinical situations. Most recently, it is being explored in terms of positive psychology. Several studies have linked empathy to general well-being and life satisfaction of people. It has also shown a reduction in social conflicts and increased peace-keeping intentions. Therefore it is important to understand factors that can lead to an increase in empathy in individuals. This is a study that attempted to understand if there is a relationship between casual reading and interpersonal reactivity-which measures dimensions of cognitive and emotional empathy. Reading has been linked to several benefits for people among which are also emotional and cognitive maturity. This study tried to understand if these benefits extend to include empathy as well. The respondents were all post-graduate students chosen through convenient sampling method. For this purpose, the researcher developed a Casual Reading Checklist which was aimed at understanding the frequency and range of the casual reading habits of people. A total reading habit score was derived out of the same. Along with this, the Interpersonal Reactivity Index (Davies, 1980) was administered to respondents. This scale helps understand empathy over four distinct dimensions- Perspective-taking, Fantasy, Empathic Concern and Personal Distress. A correlation analysis was undertaken to check if there was a relationship between the dimensions of empathy and casual reading habits. Results indicated a significant correlation between casual reading habits and the combined score from the dimensions of Cognitive Empathy. This was an attempt to understand if there is a possibility of using the habit of reading in the form of psychotherapy for general well-being and life satisfaction-at the individual as well as the societal level.

It has been observed that the poor are more likely than the affluent to be exposed to stressful life events, such as unemployment, illness and victimization etc. Poverty is not only economic limitations of people, it also encompasses the dissatisfaction of psychological and psychosocial needs, which if met, would elevate well-being of individuals. This paper uses inductive approach to understand the economics of happiness and a feeling of powerlessness in poverty-stricken population and attempts to uncover how poverty leads to a lack of happiness.

Personality is the set of psychological traits and mechanisms within the individual that are organized and relatively enduring and that influence their interactions with, and adaptations to, the intra psychic, physical, and social environments. Personality is the factor which influences other functioning of the individuals, keeping this view in mind its relation with consciousness was thought to be explored, which is awareness, the ability to experience or to feel, wakefulness, having a sense of selfhood, and the executive control system of the mind. Hence, this study was designed to understand the relationship between big five personality traits and consciousness, for this, the data was collected from 200 working and non-working males and females in the age range of 22 to 30 years. Sample was chosen from Banasthali Vidyapith, Tonk; Rajiv Gandhi Technical Institute, Raibarely; and Wipro Company, Bangalore. Measures used were self-consciousness scale (Fenigstein, Scheier &Buss 1975) which is a 23 item questionnaire and personality questionnaire: NEO Five-Factor Inventory-3 (NEO-FFI-3). This questionnaire was developed by Paul T. Costa, Jr and Robert R. McCrae (1989). The result indicated that openness and conscientiousness are significantly positively related with consciousness and openness emerged out as the significant predictor of consciousness. Also the significant difference was found between males and females in terms of consciousness. This study is unique in its endeavor and creates scope for further exploration in this field.

School plays a vital role in biopsychosocial development among students. One of the common debates of modern educational system is whether mixed sex education or single-sex education is beneficial for the bio psychosocial development of adolescents. However previous research findings have not provided sufficient evidence to resolve the controversies, this study aimed at clarifying the question of ‘which nature of schooling is effective for multi-dimensional self concept?’ To resolve the controversy, self concept of boys and girls of four mixed sex schools and four single sex education schools was assessed with the help of Multidimensional self-concept scale (MSCS)(Bruce and Bracken, 1992) . Data were statistically analyzed with help of t test. As per result, competence and academic dimensions of self were found to be higher in students from single sex schooling but social dimension of self was elevated in students from mixed sex schooling for both sexes. Girls were found to have scored significantly higher than boys on social dimension of self for both types of schooling.

Context: Attachment to God and Spirituality are the topic for great concern among Yoga practitioners. Hall, Fujikava, Halcrow and Hill (2009) suggested that attachment to God and Implicit spiritual knowledge were related with each other. The present investigation is an effort to study the relation of attachment to God with Spirituality among Yoga practitioners. For this purpose yoga practitioners (N=60) with age ranging from 35 to 60 years were selected as sample from the various Yoga Training Centres and Institutions of Delhi NCR. For assessing attachment to God, Attachment to God Inventory (AGI) given by Beck and McDonald was employed and for assessing spirituality, Spirituality Scale (SS) developed by Hadart et al was used. Results of the present study were analysed using Pearson-r correlation. The main finding of the current investigation is that there is no significant correlation any of the dimensions of attachment to God and spirituality except anxious attachment to God (dimension of attachment to God) and belief in God (dimension of spirituality), which are negatively correlated (r=.276) at 0.05 level. The study has important implications for intervention programs.

The increase in need of treatment services in prison has been in great demand. The augmented number of crimes ranging from petty crimes to serious heinous crimes in last two decades brought in the requirement of mental health facilities in prisons at the surface level. Growth in prison facilities and prisoner populations has outstripped the slower growth in mental health services, and become the need of an hour to appoint the trained and experienced therapist to reduce the rate of recidivism. Psychotherapy one of the facility in forensic setting, has been proved as an efficient method in recidivism. Among the various therapies administered on offenders, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) includes numerous programs like anger management therapy, moral reconation therapy, reasoning and rehabilitation, soft skill training, substance abuse training, relapse prevention therapy etc. are considered as the important component of the mental health facilities in the prisons, correctional and observation homes with an aim to increase the community re-entry of the offenders. CBT in prison focuses on cognitive functioning and behaviour especially on developing skills for living in harmony with the community and engaging in behaviours that contribute to positive outcomes in society. In the light of the available applications of CBT on forensic population, the heed of this article is to provide an overview of the effectiveness in crime reduction and training the offenders for becoming an acceptable member of the society.

The relationship between anxiety and impaired academic performance has been well documented by a number of investigators (Tyron, 1980; Hill & Wigfield, 1984; Topp, 1989; Sud & Sharma, 1990; Zeidner, 1990; Zoller & Ben-chain, 1990). Everyone should feel somewhat anxious before they begin to take a test. Anxiety becomes a problem when it begins to interfere with a student's ability to think logically or remember facts. Examination anxiety (test-anxiety) is a common and frequently debilitating condition characterized by intense fear of evaluation in performance situations (Jefferys, 1997). It has an early onset (Otto et al., 2001) and regularly precedes other anxiety, mood, and substance dependence disorders (Lampe et al.,. 2003). Examination anxiety is associated with significant distress and functional impairment in both work and social domains (Lochner et al., 2003) and typically persists unless treated (Clark & Wells, 1995). The early onset of test-anxiety .magnifies its impact, including increased school dropout (Van Ameringen et al., 2003), poor social integration, and increased comorbid psychopathology (Lampe et al., 2003).

Emotionally mature child is not one who necessarily has resolved all conditions that aroused anxiety and hostility but it is continuously in process of seeing himself in clearer perspective, continual involved in a struggle to gain healthy integration of feeling, thinking and action. The aim of this study is to know the relationship between adjustment and emotional maturity at secondary stage. In the present study, a descriptive survey method was used. The sample comprised of 100 students (50 boys and 50 girls) of Class X from 4 Government schools. The study will be helpful for teachers, students, parents and all the stakeholders in the process of education. For the present study Singh and Bhargav’s Emotional Maturity Scale & Adjustment inventory by A.K.P. Sinha and R.P. Singh was used to assess the emotional maturity and adjustment of the students studying in X class. The procedure adopted for administration of the test: questionnaire was distributed to the students and they were given some time limit. There was one correct answer for each option which was cross marked in the box given in front of the sentences. The findings of the present study may be helpful to the students, teachers, principals, administrators and educational planners.

Today’s organizations need to be more flexible so that they are equipped to develop their workforce and enjoy their commitment. Therefore, organizations are required to adopt a strategy to improve the employees’ quality of work life to satisfy both the organizational objectives and employee needs. The term quality of work life refers to the favorableness’ or un favorableness of a total job environment for people. The main aim of this study is to know employees balance their life and to identify health determinants in working life among employees. For this purpose quality of work life is measured by taking into account of employees’ Health and safety, Work Environment, Job satisfaction, Motivation, Job Designing and Term Effectiveness. The sample size for this study was 50 and primary data was collected from employees’ working in IT companies. Well-being, is a general term for the condition of an individual or group, for example their social, economic, psychological, spiritual or medical state; a high level of well-being means in some sense the individual or group's condition is positive, while low well-being is associated with negative happenings., an individual puts in a large part of his life and time to cope up with turbulent changes, emphasizing the role of emotional intelligence in well being and employee behavior critical to effective job performance. The present study proposes to investigate how emotional intelligence contributes to well being of individuals which in turn affects their behavior. It’s sample size of 90 employees were administered a standardized emotional intelligence scale and general well being questionnaire. Data on employee behavior was collected from direct line managers to assess the job performance of the young professionals and the results were analyzed and interpreted with the help of appropriate statistical tools. The results showed a significant correlation between Emotional Intelligence and general wellbeing and both in turn contributed to employee behavior which is critical to job performance. The paper concludes with a discussion of the implications of these findings together with limitations of the study and avenues for future research.

The present study investigated the Big Five personality factors as predictors of citizenship behaviors directed towards individuals (OCBI) and towards the organization (OCBO). The Big Five Inventory by Donahue & Kentle (1991) and Organizational Citizenship Behavior Scale by Lee and Allen (2002) were used and the sample comprised of 325 clerical employees, from nationalized and co-operative banks in Maharashtra. Findings revealed that openness emerged as the strongest predictor of both OCBI and OCBO, followed by extraversion. Moreover, openness fully mediated the relationship between agreeableness and OCBI, whereas extraversion partially mediated the relationship between agreeableness and OCBI. Openness and extraversion also partially mediated the relationship between conscientiousness and OCBO.

The purpose of this study was to find out whether songs (with lyrics) of various genres had any effect on the thoughts (cognitive), feelings (affective) and actions (conative) of young adults with varied personality traits. This study further examined which personality factor was more associated with thoughts, feelings and action tendencies generated through songs of various genres. A sample of 60 young adults (30 boys and 30 girls) of age group 18-27 years, pursuing graduation and post-graduation degrees from Amity University, Lucknow campus were selected. Tools used were Big Five Inventory (by John & Srivastava) and a 4-point Cognitive, Affective and Conative (CAC) scale (developed by Authors). Findings provide insights about the significance of music as media in day-to-day lives of young adults, particularly on their cognition and the amount of affect based on their personality factors. The time phrase i.e. young adulthood, what has been called the most crucial age, needs to be exposed to such music which does not only prove to be a source for chills and enjoyment but also which fosters its well-being.

Employee job satisfaction in the workplace is one of the important objectives of human resource managers and practitioners for better performance and productivity. Job satisfaction is a psychological state of human mind and it is subjective to individual experience and expectation, personality often plays an influential role. The term locus of control can be considered, a combination of one’s values, beliefs, past experiences, and cultural influence one’s life and behaviour. The internal-external locus of control constructs person’s internal expectancies for control of reinforcement. Further, it is believed that a person’s own behaviour determine the reinforcement they receive. The present research aims to investigate on the relationship between locus of control and job satisfaction and how does it influence, according to gender, culture, country, various sectors etc. The study will be based on different literature review in the area of concern. It will help us to develop a theoretical framework and a direction to solve for managerial problems of job satisfaction and performance of the employees. Dailey’s (1980) found that persons with an internal locus of control were more satisfied, motivated and had a high level of participation within their jobs. Some of the researches (Kircady et al., 2002; Noor, 2002; Martin et al., 2005; and Chen and Silverthorne, 2008) revealed that, there is a relationship between job satisfaction and locus of control. The objective of this study is to synthesize information from existing literatures on measures of the self-concept among institutionalized and non-institutionalized adolescents with respect to self-mutilation. As for an adolescent is concerned, it is important to develop a positive self-concept and high self-esteem in order to enhance a healthier personality. So the main objectives and focus of this study is to monitor the self-worth of adolescent students and help improve one’s self-concept and thus to develop a sense of healthy personality as an autonomous individual. 985 adolescent students, Kerala, India formed the sample for the study. The Self-Concept Questionnaire ((Kagen, Moore, & Bredekamp, 1995)) and Self-Harm Inventory (Randy A. Sansone, and Lori A. Sansone1998), were used. 2x2x2 factorial ANOVA, Regression Analysis and Correlation technique were used to analyse the data. The findings showed that the levels of self-concept seem to influence the levels of self-mutilating behaviour among the adolescent students.

This paper tries to investigate the situational and personal aspects that may trigger smokers’ psychological state reactance. It was hypothesized that situational factors, such as perceived threat to freedom and perceived loss of control which are supposed to be triggered by an anti-smoking persuasive message, and a personality pattern, such as trait reactance proneness, predict the psychological state reactance. An experiment and a survey were conducted on a random sample of 352 smoking students in two Tunisian business schools. Four anti-smoking print ads, with two different levels of negative emotional intensity, were manipulated. The findings depict the importance of the anti-smoking ads with a high negative emotional intensity, the perceived threat to freedom and trait reactance proneness in the smokers’ psychological reactance prediction.

The purpose of the present study was to test the internal consistency of Career Decision Making Difficulty Questionnaire (CDDQ) developed by Itamar Gati and Samuel H. Osipow (2010) among student population in India. Two hundred students studying in 7 schools and 1 college in Coimbatore city completed the Career Decision Difficulty Questionnaire between the age group of 14 to 20 years. The responses were collected and the data was subjected to statistical analysis to test internal consistency. The Cronbach’s and Spearman Brown Coefficient value shows high reliability. The results indicated CDDQ as a reliable instrument for assessing career decision making difficulties among the students of Indian population. Further study among student population in other states of India is recommended for validation.

This study explores the role played by spirituality in coping and presents the relationships between spiritual dimensions and coping styles. Spirituality has been considered as an important buffer against stressful events which may help people to overcome their distress and difficulties. Some stress relief tools are very tangible: exercising more, eating healthy foods and talking with friends. A less tangible — but no less useful — way to find stress relief is through spirituality. Spirituality has many definitions, but at its core spirituality helps to give our lives context. It's not necessarily connected to a specific belief system or even religious worship. Instead, it arises from your connection with yourself and with others, the development of your personal value system, and your search for meaning in life. For many, spirituality takes the form of religious observance, prayer, meditation or a belief in a higher power. For others, it can be found in nature, music, art or a secular community. Spirituality is different for everyone. Methods: One hundred individuals completed questionnaires which included the Expressions of Spirituality Inventory Douglas A. MacDonald 1997 and the Coping Strategies Assessment by DJ, 2008. The results suggest that five spiritual dimensions, i.e., Experiential/ Phenomenological Dimensions (EPD), Cognitive Orientation towards Spirituality (COS), Existential Well- Being (EWB), Paranormal Beliefs (PAR), and Religiousness (REL) play an important role in coping processes. The dimensions have a different impact on particular styles depending on their internal structure. Overall spirituality was associated with Task-oriented and Social Diversion coping. It means that people characterized by a high level of spirituality will try to solve problems through efforts aimed at solving the problem and seeking out social support. There was no statistically significant relationship between Religious attitudes and coping styles. Ethical sensitivity was positively connected with using Task-oriented, Avoidance-oriented, and Social Diversion coping. Harmony was associated positively with Task-oriented, but negatively with Avoidance-oriented, coping. The relationships between spirituality dimensions and coping styles confirmed the assumption that people's reactions to stress relate to the configuration of their spiritual qualities. Results and Implications: The study reported that there is significant relationship between spirituality and coping. Individuals high on spirituality have positive coping strategies whereas individuals low on spirituality has negative coping strategies. Also it adds to the already existing data pool with equivocal studies.

Scale was use for data collection is personal datasheet and Psychological wellbeing scale developed by Bhogale and Prakash (1995), 2x2 factorial design was used and data were analysis by ‘F’ test. Result show, Sex had significant impact on psychological wellbeing. The female school teacher’s psychological wellbeing is better than the male school teachers. There was no significant difference of psychological well being between permanent and sahayak school teachers. There was not significant interaction effect of Types of teachers and sex on Psychological well being.

In current study to construe the phenomenon of psychological preparedness among adult for specific short term and long term life events, episodes and stages. Research questions: (a) What does psychological preparedness constitute, (b) What are its personality correlates, (c) Can psychological preparedness be educated/trained or imbibed. (d) What is its predictive validity and (e) what are the criterion (intra and inter situation). To answer these research questions a sample of 200 adult shall be taken and personality correlates like resilience, mobility and liability of the nervous system, self-efficacy, time perspective and Bhagavad Gita's concept Nishkam karma will be measured. A bilingual (Hindi & English) battery shall be prepared which can address questions and its psychometric properties shall be evaluated.

Objectives: 1) To find out whether there is significant difference between the government and private school students. 2) To study the gender difference with regard to academic stress among high school students. Sample: Sample of the present study consistent 200 high school students from different schools of Ranchi town. One hundred students were government’s high school (male and female) and one hundred were private high school (male and female). Tools: Bisht battery of stress scales developed by Bisht (1987) was used to collect data. Result: The data have been analysed according to objectives and hypotheses of the research .It was observed that students in private schools have more academic stress than their counterparts in government schools. Female students experienced higher academic stress than male students.

This qualitative research is intended to bring a observational and phenomenological analysis of the applicability of psychodrama in the management of conflict, manifestation of assertive behaviour in alcohol dependent patients, also to observe and elucidate the process of a certain skill that is being learned or a certain conflict being managed and to see what other therapeutic progress psychodrama can bring in participants. This study was conducted in RINPAS, Ranchi and consisted of 5 samples; each went through 16-17 sessions of treatment of various psychodramatic techniques. Data analysis in the current study involves integration of Narrative participant observer report and Phenomenological approach. Post therapy and follow up report indicated improvement.

The present study examined the influence of intervention incorporating multiple intelligences on learning experiences and scholastic achievement of secondary school students. Data were collected from 208 students of 6th grade by following two stage sampling technique. Data were subjected to statistical analysis using chi-square, ‘t’ test and wilcoxon signed rank test. It was observed that in class rooms in which teacher incorporates multiple intelligences in teaching practices the students showed more interest in mathematics and also showed higher scholastic achievement. It has been recommended to follow the same teaching approach to generate interest among students in mathematics.

Eighty female undergraduates completed questionnaire with snacks and drinks, along with a salt shaker and a pepper shaker available. They were asked to pass salt or pepper by another female or a male who also worked on questionnaire, but who was in league with the experimenter. These confederates had either very long nose or normal-sized (short) nose (le nez normal). Participants complied to both requests, but were slower to respond to pepper request than to salt request and to the person with the long nose. Response times were particularly slow when the request was made by male with long nose (homme avec le nez long). Implications for similarity theory and attraction theory are discussed and suggestions are made for the future research going forward.

The objective of present study was to investigate the impact of gender and age on spiritual intelligence and psychological well-being of adults. A sample consisting of 600 adults has taken into consideration from Ahmedabad city. Structured and standardize questionnaires have used to collect primary data for the study. The major finding of the study was that there is a positive relationship between spiritual intelligence and psychological well-being of adults. Further results also indicated that both gender and age have significant impact on spirituality and psychological well-being of adults.

Exponential growth of academic competitiveness has brought out the dire needs of Parental support. School education cannot visualise the all objectives of education until it sought parental support. Thus, parental support has become the crux of modern school education. The present study aims to explore the relationship as well as difference between academic achievements of high and low parental support groups of male and female secondary school students. The study is hypothesised as there will be no relationship and difference between academic achievements of high and low parental support groups of male and female secondary school students. A sample size of 205 (Male & Female) secondary school students was drawn from four secondary schools of Aligarh Muslim University, Aligarh (U.P.) India. Non-probability purposive sampling was employed to draw the required sample. Mean. SD, Pearson Correlation and t- test was calculated for the analysis of data. Findings revealed the positive significant relationship as well as no significant difference between academic achievements and parental support of secondary school students. Findings are interpreted in terms of educational implications and need for further research is also suggested.

Pain results from complex interplay of biological, psychological & sociocultural factors. There are gamuts of medical and psychosocial factors which cause pain. The advent of technology and inordinate and improper use of computers and its components like key board and mouse are also associated with pain. It has been found both on the basis of research and clinically that software professionals often consult physicians for pain in different site of their body more specifically fingers, upper limbs, neck and forehead. This medical condition is known as Repetitive Strain Injury (RSI). It might result because of repetitive tasks, mechanical compressions or sustained or awkward positions. The patients of this medical condition often experience inflammation at different sites of body parts which are often involved in using computers. Unhealthy bodily postures are also associated with an issue. Pain is basically a sensory, emotional and subjective experience. High psychological arousal and cognitive set are significant factors which maintain or exacerbate the pain. In this paper, Behavioral management of pain specifically refers to brief cognitive, behavioral and mindfulness based psychological interventions in pain management. The current paper focuses on psychological factors related to pain and presented a case with RSI in holistic pain management and highlights the importance of incorporating biopsychosocial model in pain management for speedy recovery and better quality of life of patient.

Recent academic attention in the neuropsychological groundwork of main personality factors, along with the recognition of both personality and executive functioning (EF) as major predictors of memory related problems, suggest the requirement of examining personality-EF connections. The main intend of this study was to probe into the associations between personality traits and executive functioning (i.e. Motivational Drive, Strategic Planning, Organization, Impulse Control, and Empathy). To fulfill the purpose of the study a sample consisting of approximately 50 graduate students were taken from Maharshi Dayanand University, Rohtak by using incidental sampling technique. The age range of the sample varied from 20 to 30 years. The participants were administered Executive Function Index (EFI) and NEO-FFI. The data was analyzed by using appropriate statistical analysis in order to delineate the relation between the variables under study. There are found positive significant associations on extraversion, openness and conscientiousness with executive functions. Neuroticism is found to be negatively correlated with executive functions. A notable contribution of Conscientiousness to executive functions among students is observed.

The present study aimed to assess the Frustration level of high school students among their gender in relation to their Montessori and Traditional method of education. It was hypothesized that male and female high school students of Montessori education and Traditional education have significant difference on Frustration level. In order to verify the above hypotheses a sample of 120 students were selected from high schools which offer education with Montessori (N=60) and Traditional methods (N=60) include equally male and female students. To measure variable the Frustration scale was used which is developed and standardized by Chauhan & Tiwari (1999). This scale administered individually on the subjects. The data were subjected to ‘t’ analyses and the major findings of the study revealed that following are dawn: 1. The male and female students of Montessori education obtained ‘t’ value is 0.80, which is not significant level. 2. The male and female students of Traditional education obtained ‘t’ value is 2.19, which is significant at 0.05 level. 3. There is no significant difference between the male students of Montessori and Traditional education. The obtained ‘t’ value is 1.11, which is not significant level. 4. There is significant difference between female high school students of Montessori and Traditional education. The obtained ‘t’ value is 2.98, which is highly significant at 0.01 level.

Self poisoning refers to the intentional taking of too much of a poisonous substance believing that it will be noxious. Study aims is to study the socio-demographic variables in self-poisoning patients and to study various types of method of self-poisoning and to assess the Psychiatric morbidity in these patients according to DSM-IV TR.A cross sectional study conducted on 70 patients of self poisoning at one of the tertiary care teaching hospital of Ahmadabad, Gujarat from April 2009 to September 2009 .Patients were assessed after emergency medical care & resuscitation, between 2nd to 7th days of suicidal attempt. OP Poisoning (42.86%) was the most common method used for self-poisoning.82.86% patients were diagnosed to have psychiatric diagnosis on SCID-I, most common diagnosis was depressive disorder (38.57%) followed by adjustment disorder (28.57%). 17.14% patients had no psychiatric diagnosis. From my study conclusion is that Suicidal attempt was found more in married male. Housewives & unskilled workers formed majority in the study.

Method: Sample of 40 special schools mentally challenged children and 40 Government schools under inclusion education system mentally challenged children of both gender participated.Similarly10 teachers of five special school and 10 teachers of five govt. school under inclusion education system. Measures used were self-made questionnaire. Result: Percentage revealed that Governmental facilities and availability of special educators significantly differ between special schools and Governmental schools under inclusion education structure. Contribution of the Research: After implementation of right to education act, education becomes the fundamental right of each and every child. Article 21-A included disabled children in this act. The contribution of the study is to betterment of Governmental facilities for all mentally challenged children of both schools and maintain proper ratio in class between special educator and mentally challenged children. Therefore the study enlightens more awareness among society about inclusion education system for mentally challenged children.

The obtained data was analyzed through ’t’ test to know the significant difference between the boys and girls in the private school student and a significant difference in Achievement Motivation Government school students. Result show that the student of private school have significantly higher in Achievement Motivation in comparison to Government school students.

A mantra is a word or phrase repeated aloud or silently and used to focus attention. Meditation using mantras is widely practiced in India. However, research on the effects of mantra meditation on the brain is sparse. The aim was to study the effect of listening to Gayatri mantra on the brain using Elecroencephalograph (EEG) functional Magnetic Resonance Imaging (fMRI). Sample included 8 meditation naive subjects, who have not been practicing any form of meditation. There were 12 subjects for the EEG study and 8 subjects for the fMRI study. The results showed that the areas that had maximum activation were the bilateral superior temporal gyri, right temporal lobe, right insula, left inferior parietal lobule, lateral globuspallidus and culmen of the cerebellum. There were some EEG changes before and after listening to Gayatri mantra also, but reliable analysis could not be carried out due to the less number of samples. Results indicate that mantra meditation can result in changes in the brain.

The society’s perception of a disabled person also reflects its idea of a normally functional human being and the definition as considered by the society gives us an insight into the society’s self image. The recognition by the society of the terms mentally and physically disabled also implies a responsibility of the society towards the people who fit that description. A society with deep ethos of social responsibility is likely to be more open in its definition of disability. The Right of Children to Free and Compulsory Education Act, 2009 is landmark legislation in the history of the Nation that makes elementary education a fundamental right for children between the ages of 6-14. But millions of children with disabilities got left out in the Act. Being a Challenged Person i would like to extent to knowledge about educational and psychological well being of disabled children’s. In my point of view there are many challenges and issues are not implementing properly the challenges like lack of awareness, not involving the teachers directly, there is no implementation in lower level educational systems, there is any reviews of the act at least yearly once. Etc. This paper highlights some of the challenges that are faced by children with disabilities in achieving their right to education. If we can implement all above issues related challenges all most maximum numbers of disabled children are benefit in future. This paper also disseminates knowledge by giving suggestions for effective implementation of RTE for the children with disabilities.

A good understanding of mathematics is necessary not only for academics; rather it is also a fundamental skill which is required in a person’s personal, social, and work life. Mathematics today owes a huge debt to the outstanding contributions made by Indian mathematicians over many hundreds of years. However, nowadays Indian students underperform in mathematics. As per the Seventh Annual Survey of Education Report (ASER), 2012, of rural India, school enrolment has risen but there is a decline in attendance, over-reliance on private tuitions and decline in reading and mathematical ability of children in the age group between six and 14. In order to improve performance in mathematics and ensure that our students are equipped with the mathematical skills needed to succeed in a global marketplace, there is a need to start from the basics at primary level. The major reason for the difficulty in comprehending mathematical concepts is their abstract nature, inability to translate mathematical meaning to real -world entities and lack of multi-step problem solving skill. Thus, use of innovative techniques which make the mathematical concepts concrete and help in memorizing the basics along with inculcation of basic mathematical concepts and skills could be useful in improving the mathematical ability. The present paper considers some mnemonic techniques which could be easily incorporated in the regular classroom teaching methodology for enhancing mathematical skills and performance.

Mental health has become an increasingly important concern in our society with more and more psychological disorders affecting the younger population. Moreover, the prevalence and seriousness of psychological disorder have been found to be on the rise among university students and their level of mental distress has also been found to be higher compared to the general population. Therefore, mental health of the student population deserves our special attention because not only the university students have to deal with the academic demands and heavy workloads associated with pursuing a higher education but they also have to face a wide myriad of personal, academic and social challenges in this critical and often transitional period of one’s life. This co-relational study examines the relationship between hardiness and psychosocial distress among 100 university students studying in Madhya Pradesh. The sample was selected on purposive basis. These dimensions with reference to demographic factors are included for analyses and their relationships with the levels of psychological distress measured by Kessler Psychological Distress Scale (K10) (2003) and hardiness measured by Bartone’s Dispositional Resilience Scale (DRS-15) (1993) are investigated. In addition, possible domicile and gender differences in the pattern of associations are explored. The data were compiled using self-administered questionnaires, and the collected data were processed and interpreted using comparative statistics and correlation analyses. The results indicate that there is a significant negative correlation between hardiness and psychological distress among university students. Furthermore, students belonging to rural areas showed higher levels of psychological distress than urban students In contrast, there is no significant difference in the levels of hardiness as well as in psychological distress between male and female university students.

Lon attainment of Sanskrit concepts .For achieving the present objective of the study the investigator divided the purposeful sample of 207students into two groups i.e. Experiment Group & Control Group the investigator first administered Standardized Sanskrit Grammar Achievement Scale(SGAS) as Pre-Test , than applied 30 days treatment on both the group i.e. Experiment Group were taught the concepts of the Sanskrit Grammar according to C.A.M Method & Control Group were taught by C. A. Mintegrated with C.L Method. After treatment the investigator administered Standardized Sanskrit Grammar Achievement Scale(SGAS) as Post-Test on both the groups and after scoring the Pre-Test and Post-Test the final Gain score was obtained . For analysing the data Analysis of Variance(ANOVA) was used. The results revealed that there was a significant difference found for Area & Method at 0.01 level of Significance, Area X Gender, Area X Method, Gender X Method at 0.05 level of Significance between the C.A.M group & C. The present study was undertaken to map the ground trends of depression and suicidal ideation among elderly Kashmiris in association with connected socio-demographic variables and also to find the relationship of depression with suicidal ideation. The sample consisted of 184 older adults (102 elderly males & 82 elderly females) taken from different districts of Kashmir. The age of the sample group ranged from 58-76 years with mean age of 67 years. Purposive sampling technique was used for research purpose. Aaron Beck’s Depression Inventory (BDI-II 1996) and Beck & Steer’s Suicide Ideation scale (BSSI 1991) was used. T-test was used to test the significance of difference in depression and suicidal ideation between various groups and Pearson’s Product Moment Correlation was used to determine the relationship between depression and suicidal ideation. The findings of the present study revealed that there is no significant mean difference in the depression level of older adults with respect to various socio-demographic variables. Further, the findings of the present study reveal that there is significant mean difference in the suicidal ideation of educated and uneducated elderly as is true for rural and urban older adults. However, no significant mean difference was found in suicidal ideation of male & female older adults and also no significant mean difference was found in the suicidal ideation of those elderly whose spouse are alive and those who are widowed. Results further reveal that depression has significant positive correlation with suicidal ideation indicating that depression acts as risk factor for suicidal ideation.

This study is an evaluation of KAP (knowledge, attitude and practice) among the educated Bengalee population of rural West Bengal, India. It reveals a positive perception of the people towards this disorder. Genetic counseling and participation in awareness programme is very poor among these respondents. There is considerable difference between two genders in terms of knowledge like- ‘about the child to whom blood is given frequently’ and ‘thalassemia is a blood related disorder’. More number of males agreed to live with a person suffering from thalassemia than their counterparts. Proper education and awareness programme with local community participation will be very effective as people witness the seriousness of this disease in their day to day life.

The present study has been conducted with the aim to Adjustment problems of new school entrant’s girls. Adjustment is the process of finding and adopting modes of behavior suitable to the environment or the changes in the environment of new school entrant’s girls. Total samples of 382 new admitted students in 5th, 9th and 11th class’s students. Educational, personal and social values were measured through self developed questionnaire tools. The data were analysis by Mean, SD and F-ratio. The analysis revealed that the adjustment problem of new school entrant; Educational and Personal adjustment of girl’s different classes differ significantly where as no significant difference in social adjustment of girls from different classes.

This study examined the affective variables, namely study habits and academic self concept to determine if they are correlated and have an impact on adolescents’ academic achievement. Subjects comprised 480 randomly selected students of class XIIth of the 10+2 schools in Darbhanga town (Bihar). They were asked to complete Study Habit Inventory by Dr. M. Mukhopadhyay & Dr. D. N. Sansanwal (2002) and Academic Self Concept Scale (ASCS) by Reynolds et al. (1980) in normal classroom situation. Statistical analyses were performed to ascertain the relationship between affective variables & academic achievement and their effects on academic achievement of adolescents (both rural and Urban). Findings of the study revealed that (1) there is a significant positive correlation between study habits, academic self concept and academic achievement and (2) there is a significant difference between boys and girls( both rural and urban) on the variables, study habits, academic self concept and academic achievement. It was recommended that similar research with appropriate methodology and design may be used to ascertain the degree of conformity which this research has on the above said variables.

The present research is an exploratory research study done with the intention of examining the effect of emotional intelligence of senior college teachers on their job satisfaction and family relationships. Emotional Intelligence is an important factor for teacher’s success. Thus, the present study is based on the assumption that Emotional Intelligence of the senior college teachers may help them to gain maximum job satisfaction and ultimately it will lead to develop and maintain their good family relationships. On the other hand, education plays extremely significant role in the lives of individuals by empowering them with various abilities, skills, competencies, and paving way for enhancing their quality of life. So the education is the illumination. With this viewpoint, the teacher’s role in society is extremely important as well as possesses moral responsibility of creating next generation with maximum human values. Participants in the study were 151 teachers from senior colleges in Pune city of Maharashtra State. Job satisfaction, emotional intelligence as well as all relation dimension parameters was observed to be higher in females than males. . However, statistical significance (using independent t-test) was seen in all family relation dimensions. In general, job satisfaction, emotional intelligence as well as all relation dimension parameters was observed to be higher in participants with higher income than those with lower income. However, statistical significance was seen in all family relation dimensions and emotional intelligence. Participants average score for job satisfaction is 220.5(sd 17.5) and for emotional intelligence is 106.15(sd 16.3). There average score for various relationship dimension like, for Cohesion is 53.9(SD 6.1); for Expressiveness is 35.9(SD 5.6); for Conflict is 45.9 (SD 6.5) and for Acceptance and Caring is 49.4(SD 5.4).

This paper sought to examine the perception of survivors of tragedy in Kenya on Psychological Resilience. The study adopted a mixed design approach. The target population for this study was 50. It comprised all individuals who were victims of the fire tragedy at Kiambaa village. Questionnaires and unstructured interview schedule were the main tools of data collection. The 25 item Connor-Davidson Resilience Scale 25 (CD-RISC-25) (used with permission) Connor and Davidson (2003) was used to measure the resilience levels of the respondents. Means and Standard deviations were computed to quantify the amount of variation or dispersion of resilience among the respondents. Responses from research tools were cleaned, coded and entered into Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS) for analysis. Pearson product moment correlation analysis, Chi square correlation analysis and Spearman rank correlation analysis were computed to establish the relationships between study variables. Findings were presented in form of tables, cumulative frequency counts, graphs and charts.

Background: Relationship researchers have focused on the frequency of conflict in couples’ relationships and the manner in which couples engage in and try to resolve conflicts. Conflict occurs regularly in most close relationships and dealing with conflict, under some conditions, may facilitate the development and maintenance of intimacy and satisfaction in a relationship. Regardless of this understanding, very little is known about individual’s characteristics of conflict resolution behavior that bring into couples relationship satisfaction. Objective:. The purpose of this study is to examine individual’s characteristics in conflict resolution behavior and its effect on couple relationship satisfaction. Methodology: A total of 306 (159 female and 147 male) participants were included from community sample. Three Kebeles in Yeka sub-city of Addis Ababa were selected randomly. Data were collected on relationship satisfaction and conflict resolution behavior of couples. The constructs were measured by Relationship Assessment Scale (RAS, Hendrick, 1988 and Rahim Organizational Conflict Inventory-II (ROCI-II, Rahim, 1983). Pearson correlation and standard multiple regressions were run to check association and prediction among variables under study respectively. Result: The result confirmed that statistically significant correlation was found between/among most variables/constructs in the study. The standard regression revealed that conflict resolution behavior predicted relationship satisfaction. Particularly integrating, dominating and avoiding conflict type of conflict resolution styles predicted relationship satisfaction individually. Conclusion: It is therefore, possible to conclude that all the conflict resolution style sub scales predicted relationship satisfaction significantly.

The linguistic and cognitive competence of 120 children belonging to three different upper primary school (Oriya medium, English medium and Hindi medium), and equal to 40 each was studied. The results indicated that while the system of schooling was not significantly noticeable in developing cognitive and academic competence. The linguistic competence was found to be significant indicating that in and around the age 10+ and 12+ years the linguistic competence is markedly identified. Whereas the conceptual ability and other related variables like curiosity, learning and piagetian concepts are at par with the system of schooling.

The aim of the present research was to study spiritual well-being and depression among middle aged people. 100 middle aged persons were taken for the present study. The tools used were Spiritual wellbeing Scale (Paloutzian & Ellison, 1982), Beck Depression Inventory-III (Beck, Steer and Brown, 1996). The result revealed that out of 100 middle aged people, 79% showed average level, and 21% showed high level of spiritual well being. Also it was found that out of the total sample 68% fall in the minimal level of depression, 16% fall in the mild level, 10% fall in the moderate level of depression and the remaining 6% of the sample fall in the severe level of depression. Further, results of the study revealed significant negative correlations of spiritual well being with depression among middle aged people. Furthermore results did not reveal any significant differences for spiritual well-being and depression among middle aged people as far as their gender is concerned.

42 years old male patient referred from neurology department, working as a teacher, educated up to MSc, premorbidly anxious personality, family history mental illness (first degree relatives), comes from MSES with presenting complaints of difficulty in writing or copying since seven years. Disability progressed and he was unable to write even a few words legibly and could not hold object which leads to anxiety and dependency. When the patient was examined at Neurology OPD, find out that he has normal sensory and motor nerve functions. The present treatment involved the use of Bahaviour therapy. The findings in this case is very encouraging and studies with large sample sizes can be considered for further conclusive evidence on the treatment of writer’s cramp.

The present study aimed at ascertaining the effect of psychoastrotherapy (psychotherapy and astrotherapy) on phobic patients. Hundred (100) phobic patients were consisted for this study out of these 50 treated and 50 non-treated patients were evaluated at S. I. Mental & Physical Health Society (SIMPHS) Varanasi (India). The two groups were matched on age range of13 to 25 years with a mean age of 15.27 years and their mean length of abnormal fear was 3.5 years. Middlesex Hospital Questionnaire (M.H.Q.) was administered to ascertain mental health on six selected variables viz: free floating anxiety, obsession, phobia, somatization, depression and hysteria. Mean scores obtained on different variables were analyzed using t-test of significance. Results indicate that the characteristics associated with non-treated phobic patients were free floating anxiety, obsession, phobia, depression and hysteria and the characteristics associated with treated phobic patients is somatization. Fifty patients were treated for six months and they were requested to attend centre for six months of follow-up. After six months of follow-up only thirty six patients were reported that they did not feel any kind of phobic symptoms.

The present investigation was conducted to examine the stress among the working and non workingwomen’s. It was hypothesized that the working women’s has more stress than the non- working women’s. In order to verify the above hypothesis a sample of 90 women’s were taken. From which working women’s (N= 45) and non workingwomen’s (N= 45). To measure the stress, the stress scale developed by DR. M. Singh (2002) was administrated individually to the subjects. The data were subjected to ‘t’ analysis and the major findings of the study reveals that the working women’s has more stress than the non workingwomen’s.

This research paper is an attempt to study the level of anxiety, stress and depression among flood affected people in Kashmir valley. This study is based on sample of 100 subjects divided into two equal groups (male and female) selected through sample random sampling. The level of anxiety, stress and depression were measured by anxiety, depression and stress scale (ADSS-BSPSA) developed by Pallavi Bhatnagar et al., Department of Psychology Lucknow University. Mean, S.D, SED and t-test were applied for data analysis. The results reveal that the significant difference was found between the male and female subjects in respect to anxiety, stress and depression scores. Significant difference was found at 0.05 and 0.01 levels respectively.

The study focuses on exploring the job satisfaction and job stress of bank employees. The sample of the study comprised of respondents selected purposively. Job Satisfaction Scale (Abdul Khaleque, 1995) and Occupation Stress Index (Md. Abdul Latif and Sabina Sultana) were used for data collection. Results revealed that two-third of the participants are satisfied with their jobs and almost one-third of the bank employees have low job stress. The result also revealed that there is no significant correlation between job stress and job satisfaction.

Background: The present study aims to investigate the anxiety level of sports and non-sports students during board exam. It also aimed to find out the difference of anxiety among up board students on the basis of gender and the difference of anxiety among up board students on the basis of socio-economic status. These were studied with respect to different demographic variables like school type, socio-economic background, gender and academic stream. Methods: In this study, Sample included 420 randomly selected students i.e. 210 boys and 210 girls of U.P boards from various schools of Education at Uttar Pradesh. Subjects were assessed using Socio-demographic sheet and Anxiety Scale by Sinha & Sinha (1955). Result: The results of the study revealed considerable anxiety in boys than girls (p<0.01). Students from Hindi medium schools were more anxious than students from English medium schools (p<0.01). Students belonging to the middle class (middle socio-economic group) suffered more anxiety than those from both high and low socio-economic groups (p<0.01). Conclusion: conclusion is that Parent child relationship, child and teacher relationship and parent and teacher relationship and support decrease the level of anxiety. Parents and teacher emotional support drastically change the statics of anxiety in students. Parents and teacher use anxiety prevention efforts and gave lots of confidence to the child because these steps only weapon who broke the anxiety stone.

The present study was designed to: (a) determine whether there is empirical support for a relationship between Gratitude and Spirituality in Quality of Life, (b) provide an estimate of the strength of this relationship, and (c) examine whether Spirituality and Gratitude is a predictor of quality of life. Stage 1 and Stage 2 Cancer patients were employed for this study. The sample for the study consisted of 397 Cancer patients aged between 36 to 67 years. The Spirituality Scale, Gratitude Scale and the Quality of Life for Adult Cancer Survivors were administered on the participants. Results supported previous research that Spirituality and Gratitude were positively correlated to Quality of life. It was also was a significant predictor in Quality of Life in Cancer Patients. The implication of this study is that Spirituality and Gratitude as a paradigm can be used to improve the Quality of life particularly for those who report very poor health while suffering from Cancer or are at the end of their life with disease

The present study is an attempt to examine the relationship between cognitive emotion regulation strategies and anxiety and depression among adults. The rising prevalence of mental illness in today’s world is mainly due to stress, tension or negative life experiences in our day to day life. In this regard, the way in which one’s response to stress and negative life events may be more directly connected to mental health and psychopathology than the nature of stressful experience itself. A representative sample of 30 males and 30 females from Kottayam and Thrissur Districts of Kerala, of 20 – 40 years of age were selected. Cognitive emotion regulation questionnaire was administered to find out the cognitive emotion regulation strategies that participants use in response to the experience of stressful events. The inventory of Beck Depression Inventory -11 was distributed to find out the different symptoms of depression and State – Trait Anxiety Test was used to measure their state and trait anxiety levels. The results of Student t- test showed that, both males and females show significant differences in certain cognitive emotion regulation dimensions like positive appraisal, putting into perspective and other – blame and in depressive symptoms and in one of the anxietal symptom called Tension. And Co–efficient Correlation revealed that, self blame, catastrophizing, rumination and other blame were related with high level of depression and anxiety and subscales like acceptance, positive appraisal and putting into perspective were related with low levels of depression and anxiety. So the study concluded that there is relationship between cognitive emotion regulation strategies and anxiety and depression among adults. And also Cognitive Emotion Regulation Questionnaire (CERQ) has fit psychometric properties and could be used for clinical and investigative purposes.

Though everyone needs intelligence in general and Social intelligence in particular. Hence in this context the investigators made an attempt to study the Social intelligence of Secondary school teachers. The objectives of the study are (i) to assess the social intelligence of Secondary school teachers and (ii) to find out the significance difference if any in the Social intelligence of Secondary school teachers due to variations in their Gender and Age. In this study 700 Secondary school teachers were selected from Kadapa district of Andhra Pradesh by employing simple random sampling technique. In this study the researchers analyzed the Social intelligence of Secondary school teachers in relation to their Gender and Age and found that, there is no significant difference between the male and female sample in their Social intelligence. On the other hand findings revealed that, there is significance difference among the age group of Secondary school teachers in their Social intelligence in general and Patience, Cooperativeness, Confidence, Sensitivity, Recognition of Social Environment, Tactfulness and Memory dimensions of Social intelligence in specific. Findings of the study are (i) both the male and female Secondary school teachers expressed equal level of Social intelligence and (ii) significant variation exists among the age groups of the Secondary school teachers towards the Social intelligence in Toto.

A present study investigated the correlation between experienced sexual harassment and anxiety, depression among working unmarried women. A purposive sample of 100 working unmarried women (25 to 35 years) was selected. Sample was collected from Mumbai. Sample involves unmarried women working in private sectors with same occupational background. The Sexual harassment experiences questionnaire, Beck depression inventory II, IPAT anxiety scale along with the personal data sheet were administered on the sample. The obtained score does not follow the normal distribution curve hence for correlation Spearman rho correlation method was used. Spearman non parametric test used to find out correlation between all variables. Result shows that there is positive correlation between experienced sexual harassment and depression. Also result shows that there is no correlation between experienced sexual harassment and anxiety.

This research is carried out on 60 students of IX Standard, Kendriya Vidalaya. Students were selected for the therapy on the basis of their SUD score. After taking math autobiography it was revealed that anxiety in mathematics for the students was developed due to various causes and the students were not dyslexic. Student’s average score in the recent mathematics exam was noted. Mathematics anxiety was assessed by using suri, monroe and koc’s (2012) short mathematics anxiety rating scale and their hemispheric dominance of the brain was measured by using Taggart and Torrance’s Human Information Processing Survey (1984). Students were treated with behaviour modification techniques and super brain yoga for six weeks. Interventions used are: I. Reduction of Rate of Breathing (Ganesan, 2012). II. Laughter Technique (Ganesan, 2008b). III. Develpoment of Alternate Emotional Responses to the Threatening Stimulus (Ganesan, 2008a). IV. Super Brain Yoga (Sui, 2005). The anxiety level and performance in mathematics exam was reassessed after six weeks. Results showed that mathematics anxiety and mathematics SUDs were significantly reduced, which improved the group performance in mathematics exam. This shows that behaviour modification techniques and super brain yoga are efficient in treating mathematics anxiety.

Further, results of the study revealed significant negative correlations of spiritual well being and life satisfaction with depression among middle aged people. Also significant positive correlation of spiritual well being with life satisfaction was found among them. Furthermore results did not reveal any significant differences for spiritual well-being, life satisfaction and depression among middle aged people as far as their gender is concerned.

To meet the objectives 200 Mizo participants were randomly selected, who had experienced that stressful situations at different levels of exposures to the stressful episodes. The study examines level of anxiety, depression, anger-hostility, somatic-concern and frustration of the insurgency effected people in Mizoram. It was found that those who had experience combat at first hand and fatal episode were the most vulnerable to psychological problems.

Social cognition attempts to explain the broad social aspects of human experience, such as how decision making are influenced by the presence of others as well as the social situations in which they find themselves. This article presents a fundamental idea of social cognitive perspective of decision making process and factors that influence our decisions.

The present study was designed to study the relationship between optimism, stress and coping with stress. The sample for the study comprised of 500 undergraduate students from colleges in Goa. Three measures—‘Life Orientation Test-Revised’ by Scheier & Carver (1994), ‘Perceived Stress Scale’ by Cohen, Kamarck, & Mermelstein (1983), and ‘COPE’ by Carver, Scheier, & Weintraub (1989) were administered to participants. The findings of the research indicate a moderate negative relationship between optimism and stress. Optimism was found to be positively related to positive reinterpretation and growth, use of instrumental social support, active coping, acceptance, suppression of competing activities, and planning, and negatively related to mental disengagement, behavioural disengagement, focus on and venting of emotions, denial, and religious coping.

The nature of career maturity is influenced by number of factors. The factors like the individuals family environment, mental ability, attitude, personality, economic, political and industrial polices etc… Considering the above facts, it will be relevant to study the career maturity and career competency of students. Career Maturity Inventory (CMI) Attitude Scale & Competency Test) originally prepared by John O, Crites, Indian Adaptation by Mrs. Nirmala Gupta (1989). The reliability of the scale was found to be 0.82. Normative survey method was used for the present study. This method was used to assess the relationship between the XI standard Students career maturity and their career competency. A random sample of 200 XI Students studying in eight Higher Secondary Schools located in Erode district of Tamil Nadu was selected for the study. The investigator was used by t and F test.

This study aims to show the influence of professional seniority and interpersonal relations on the performance of officials and agents of the state of Ministry of the Public Service and Administrative Reform. It is based on a general assumption that there is a direct link between the two levels of study variables. The verification of this hypothesis required a quantitative approach. The sampling technique used is stratified probabilistic method. The survey was conducted among a sample of 103 permanent officials and agents of the state by means of a questionnaire. The counting of the data obtained and their statistical treatment using the chi-square test can isolate two results. On the one hand, the age does not determine the performance of state officials and agents of the Ministry of Public Service and Administrative Reform. On the other hand, relationships have a significant influence on the performance of state officials and agents of that Ministry.

The authors of this study have attempted to understand whether study habits affect academic achievement among secondary and senior secondary school students of Mysore. It is also attempted to know whether students at secondary level differ from senior secondary level on their study habits. The study was conducted on the sample of 625 students of Mysore City in India using stratified random sampling technique. Results indicated that the study habits facilitate higher academic achievement. Further, it was also found that secondary school students are significantly better than senior secondary students on study habits. The findings are analyzed and explained. Thus, study habit is found to be an important correlate of academic achievement.

The purpose of the study is to determine the level of stress and different coping mechanisms used by parents of children with Autism Spectrum Disorder on pre-training and post-training tests. A researcher-developed training module was used to impart training to enhance the coping mechanisms used by parents to reduce their level of stress. A sample of 100parents of one child with Autism Spectrum Disorder was taken. They were administered on Parental Stress Index and Family Crisis Oriented Personal Evaluation Scales (F-COPES). The study utilized a quantitative approach, using Means, Standard Deviation and t –test in analysing data. Results reveal that parents of autistic children differed significantly on coping strategies and level of stress after the training.

It acts as a bridge reaching mass audience. Research has not formally identified addictive use of the Internet as a problematic behavior. This study is focusing on the impact of social skills of the individuals with internet usage. Methods: Demographic Data Sheet, Internet Addiction Test, Social Skills Test & Diagnostic Questionnaire. Data was analyzed. Conclusions: This study explores the continued prolonged usage of Internet and becoming addicted causing to the extent of impending misuse. Clinical and social inference of pathological Internet use and the future directions for research are discussed.

The objective of this study was to explore the emotional processing and adjustment patterns in patients with dissociative disorders. The Study was conducted at Institute of Medical Sciences and Neurosciences (IMHANS), Srinagar, India. Methods: The patients were chosen with the help of purposive sampling. A total of 30 participants (both male and female) were taken for the study. The Cross-sectional Research Design was used to collect the data. The tools used were Personal Information Schedule, Emotional Processing Scale (EPS 25) (Roger Baker 2000) and Bell’s Adjustment Inventory. Scoring of Emotional Processing Scale and Bell’s Adjustment inventory were done using the manual. Mean and Correlation was calculated by using SPSS. Results: It was found that dissociative disorder patients were plagued by intrusive and persistent emotions. In order to avoid those negative emotions, the patients tried to avoid experiencing them. Unprocessed emotional style was found to be most frequently used by the patients. Dissociative disorder patients were found to have poor adjustment in home, social, health as well as emotional areas of adjustment; with the maximum adjustment on emotional front. Further, it was found that there was no significant correlation between emotional processing and adjustment. However there was positive correlation between health and unregulated and unprocessed emotions. Conclusion: The findings of this exploratory study shed some light on the emotional processing and patterns of adjustment. This would help in the understanding and formulation of therapeutic cases and its implications on therapeutic interventions.

Parental Modernity is an important aspect for the psycho-social development of the child. The present study aims to study the effect of parental modernity on rejection sensitivity and self-esteem of adolescents and the relationship between rejection sensitivity and self-esteem. The research is carried out on a sample of 240 parents (including 120 fathers and 120 mothers) and their 120 children. For observing the impact of modernity of parents on their children, Individual Modernity Scale was used and administered on father and mother. Rejection Sensitivity Questionnaire and Self-Esteem Inventory were used to measure the rejection sensitivity and self-esteem of children (age ranges from 14 to 19 years). The results suggest that parental modernity has an effect on the rejection sensitivity and personally perceived self of the self – esteem of adolescents. Furthermore, the rejection sensitivity has been found negatively associated with self-esteem.

The term identity is very important for adolescents. Adolescence is a time to sum up one’s past and current experience to arrive at a sense of identity, which in turn will guide one’s future plans. Adolescence has been considered as a period marked with identity crisis. Who am I all about? What am I going to do with my life? What is different about me? How can I make it on my own? These questions are usually considered in adolescence. Adolescents are keen for solutions to questions of identity. Identity has been called a “sense” an “attitude” a “resolution” and so on. The term social support means the person seeks help and support from friends, the term self esteem means the belief about their own self. Self-esteem is a socio psychological construct that assesses an individual’s attitudes and perceptions of self-worth. For this purpose a sample of 150 adolescents (75 boys and 75 girls) ranging in age from of 14 to18 years, were selected from various schools of Hisar, Haryana (India).They were administered (EOMEIS-2; Bennion and Adams, 1986), Perceived Social Support Assessment (Zimet, Dahlem, Zimet & Farley, 1988), Self Esteem Scale (Rosenberg, 1965). This paper draws a parallel of Maslow hierarchy of needs with organ donation and transplantation and illustrates how these needs i.e., physiological, security, love and belongingness, self-esteem and self-actualization are inter-dependent, interlinked and entrenched in both living as well as deceased organ donation and transplantation. The paper illustrates the nuances of inter-linkages of need satisfaction of people and professionals in organ donation and transplantation. With some case studies, it draws attention to the plight of impoverished people and insecure women who are exploited or intimidated into donating organs for meeting their physiological and security needs in class stratified and gender insensitive social milieu respectively. It however, reveres the acts of donation of organs by relatives of deceased donors who allow donation of organs from Brain Stem Dead donors in India and illustrates how security needs of these families are met through the most powerful and altruistic act of organ donation that gives life to a number of people fighting end stage organ failures. The paper traces new expectations of love and belongingness in the form of organ donation and discusses role reversal of females even on Rakshabandan, a Hindu festival that celebrates love and affection between a sister and a brother. The sisters risk their lives and gift their organs to give a fresh lease of life to their brothers. Drawing attention to the forth level of needs, the paper discusses the plight of some vulnerable people who end up donating organs for gratification of their self-esteem needs in contrast to transplantation community who seek gratification of the same need through transplantation and influencing law making process in context of both living and deceased donation. It admires the gratification of self-actualization needs of a number of people who pledge to donate tissues, organs as well as the bodies after death/Brain Stem Death. India being a progressive country in organ donation and transplantation, this paper reveals how some professionals having satisfied all other basic needs, spend their own money and work tirelessly for pushing ahead the National Organ and Tissue Transplant Organization (NOTTO) under the aegis of National Organ Transplant Programme(NOTP ) in the country.

Academic procrastination is common among students and is due to various reasons. One of the reasons can be difficulty level of the task. To involve in the task and experience a deep sense of enjoyment, there should be balance between students’ skills and task challenges which is a characteristic of flow. The present study aimed to find out the moderating role of Hardiness and Self-efficacy in the relationship between Flow and Academic Procrastination on Academic Performance. For that 170 undergraduate students were taken from different streams using stratified random sampling method. Procrastination Scale, Dispositional Flow Scale, Hardiness Scale and Self-efficacy scales were used to measure the proposed variable in the model. Results showed a significant negative relation between academic performance and procrastination and a positive relation between Academic Performance, flow, and Self-efficacy. However, there seems no significant relationship between academic performance and hardiness. Structural equation modeling results reveal that procrastination has a significant direct effect on performance and that self-efficacy plays a moderating role in the relationship between flow and procrastination on academic performance, whereas hardiness is non-significant. Hence, it can be concluded from the SEM analysis result that model can be partially accepted. The implications of the study suggest designing the syllabus to match the abilities of all the students, training to elude procrastination and to increase a student’s level of self-efficacy.

The current study aimed at comparing the Quality of Life and Stress among Obsessive Compulsive Disorder caregivers and General population. It was hypothesised that the Quality of Life will be poor in Obsessive Compulsive Disorder caregivers and their level of Stress will be high in comparison with General population. There would be a significant relationship in the Quality of Life and Stress in Obsessive Compulsive Disorder caregivers. The study proves that the Quality of Life is superior in General population than Obsessive Compulsive Disorder caregivers, whereas the level of Stress is higher in Obsessive Compulsive Disorder caregivers. There is also a significant relationship between Quality of Life and Stress in Obsessive Compulsive Disorder caregivers.

The present study focuses on determining the difference between adults with and without substance abuse in their attachment style, emotional maturity and self-esteem and also whether there is gender difference in them. For the study, sample comprised of 80 participants, i.e. 40 substance abusers and 40 substance non abusers in which 20 males and 20 females of 18 – 30 years from both the group were taken as sample. The primary reason of the study was that substance abuse is a persistent problem that many people suffer from and it is inexorably a growing issue that leads to social and economic influences. The results showed that there was significant difference among adults who abuse substances and who did not abuse substances. Participants who did not abuse substances showed secure attachment pattern, high emotional stability and high self-esteem as compared to participants who abuse substances. Also there was a significant gender difference in secure attachment pattern in non-abusers and in insecure attachment pattern in substance abusers. Females in comparison to males were more emotional stable in both the groups. No significant difference was seen in the self-esteem of males and females. The study provides an opportunity for further research across age and sub-divisions of the variables to uncover the possible differences or similarities that may be present.

The literary interest is to be measured and an inventory is prepared for that. In the present inventory students point out whether they like the activity, like it strongly, dislike or strongly dislike. To construct and standardize literary interest inventory for higher secondary school students. To investigate the significant difference in the literary interest of the students between the sub-groups on gender, area, stream, type of school, standard and components of interest inventory. 3119 higher secondary school students is population. Hence survey method was suitable for the present study. The steps of the construction of the inventory are as follows. Items having t- value more than 1.96 and r-value more than 0.20 were selected. Thus, out of the 100 items, 80 items were selected in the final form of the inventory. The reliability of the inventory was established via test-retest method and split-half method. For establishing criterion validity The Teacher Criterion scale that depict various literary activities that can be carried out in higher secondary schools. The null hypotheses were tested using t-test and f-test. Significant difference is observed in the literary interest of the students with reference to gender. Girls are more inclined towards the literary interest than the boys. Rural students show more interest in literature than the urban students. Students of arts stream show more interest in literature than the students of commerce students and students of science stream show more interest in literature than the students of both streams. Significant difference is students with reference to type of school. Students of grant-in-aid schools show more interest in literature than the students of non-grant-in aid schools.
