The paper deals with the relationship between phonetics and phonology using examples from the vowel systems of four Roman languages – French, Spanish, Italian, and Romanian. Starting from the principles of the Prague Linguistic Cicrle and N. Trubetzkoy’s Phonology Theory, which built his theory of phonetics as a discipline studying the material of physical aspects of minimal linguistic units as speech elements and using the methodology of natural sciences, and of phonology as a discipline concerned with the distributive properties of a limited number of minimal linguistic units i.e. phonemes, elements belonging to language and which applies methodologies specific to linguistics, sociology and psychology in its research. A comparative analysis of the vowel systems of the four Roman languages revealed different approaches in classifying identical or very similar vocal realizations, but also similarities in their nature. The research showed that complex systems tend to be less stable and tend to reduce, while simpler ones are more stable. Certain allophonic realizations in one or more languages appear as full-fledged phonemes in the system of another language, whereas some other realizations, present in spontaneous speech but not in the phonological system of a specific language, emerge as phonemic units in another language.

Education is a basic human category and need. Man is born without any knowledge and experience, and in the process of upbringing and education, he needs to realize himself as an autonomous being. Therefore, it is the task of participants and creators of educational policies to provide methods to achieve this goal. Also, it is necessary to provide a competent teacher who will be able to ensure the fulfillment of educational intentions. Education is dealt with by philosophy and pedagogy. Pedagogy deals with specific issues related to education, and philosophy, within the framework of the philosophy of education, deals with phenomena related to education and educational practice, approaching holistically. In this paper, we will present certain educational attitudes from antiquity, the pragmatist theory of J. Dewey, and indicate which competencies a teacher should possess in modern teaching.

In this paper, we research the importance of corpora in historical pragmatics. From the origins of historical pragmatics as a science the question of choosing an appropriate corpus has been in the center of attention. The problematics of historical pragmatics demand a corpus that reflects faithfully the spoken language. However, such registered sources do not exist. Thus, researchers face problems when choosing corpora that have to be written but also reflect speech. That is why we synthesize a review of often-used corpora and we present their advantages and disadvantages. We apply the theory of Giovanni Nencioni (1976) that differs between the spoken language in the true meaning of the word (parlato parlato), written spoken language (parlato scritto), and recited spoken language (parlato recitato). Based on his research, we can claim that some of the privileged forms in historical pragmatics are literary works, theater pieces, religious scriptures, and speech transcripts. Thus, we examine the advantages and disadvantages of the aforementioned corpora and we aim to determine if they are suitable to be used in historical pragmatics. The research shows that it is impossible to find a completely adequate corpus because none of them reflect the spoken language in all of its characteristics and they approach it only partially.

Katabasis represents a narrative trope which refers to the hero’s journey into the underworld, a descent into the realm of the dead, and whose presence can be found across the world, from ancient mythologies to contemporary literature. The aim of this paper is to point to the possibility of reading Margaret Atwood’s The Handmaid’s Tale as a katabatic narrative, more precisely as a variation of the archetypal hero’s journey into the underworld, where, instead of the land of the past, the descent is directed towards a dystopian future and where, instead of a mythical superhero, the protagonist is a modern-day heroine. Having already tackled the subject of Western capitalism governed by patriarchal power relations, its obsession with controlling nature, especially the process of reproduction, and the ensuing feminist descent from it, in The Handmaid’s Tale Atwood adjusts and adapts the dynamic topos of the katabasis so as to suit the contemporary reality and modern traumas. She presents a female narrator, a superheroine, trapped within the boundaries of a claustrophobic world, where women live subjugated and segregated by the oppressive male regime. Following the generic features of the term katabasis, the paper analyses the katabatic experience of Offred in the Republic of Gilead, a topos of Hell in not such a distant future, where the past has been erased and the citizens, especially the female ones, have been denied any right to identity and individuality. As there are numerous instances of carnivalesque elements, it is possible to approach the community of Gilead from the perspective of the carnivalization of the katabasis, both in the way it was defined by Mikhail Bakhtin and in a modern rendition explained by Linda Hutcheon, i.e. both a positive and an ironizing version of the concept.

This paper presents the scientific and academic work of Muhamed Dželilović, professor at the Department of Comparative Literature and Information Sciences, Faculty of Philosophy, University of Sarajevo. There is a special focus on two of Dželilović's books, Slaveni o Danteu and Kalhasovo proročanstvo, which claimed to establish the framework for all Dželilović's other scientific and academic work. Dželilović's approach to literature implies a complex dialogue with the greatest writers of the world's cultural tradition. At the same time, the most important domestic authors also find their place in that wider context.

The problem of the diva/the divo within Italian cinematography has – just like that of the star – already been examined several times. But the appearance of the minute stars within the media culture of the past 20 years throws a completely new light on the problem of the divine – not only in Italy. Does this phenomenon come close to that of the amateur actor in Italian neorealism, the innovation that should ensure authenticity within the films? This question will be explored in the essay. It was Luchino Visconti (1906–1976) who made the film La terra trema (1947/48) exclusively with amateur actors, and then questioned the neo-realist filmmakers’ approach with the film Bellissima (1951). Visconti settled with the star industry in 1967 in his film La strega brucciata viva. The question of amateur actors, divas, stars is discussed based on the two films and the theories of Gilles Deleuze (‘crystal imageʻ) and Ernst H. Kantorowicz (‘the king’s two bodysʻ).

The main goal of this paper is to point out the concept of creativity in teaching, specifically creativity in the teaching of Nature and Society. Nature and society, as a subject, provide many opportunities to express the creativity that we carry within us through the role of a teacher, as well as to teach students how to be creative. The paper highlights examples of different teaching units that indicate ways to encourage creativity in students and awaken their imagination. Through teaching, through tasks that the teacher creatively devises, we encourage students to think creatively and act, in addition to acquiring knowledge more permanently and functionally. Possibilities of creating Nature and Society lessons through creative examples and experiments, as well as evaluating and measuring creativity, were presented. The work results indicated that creative teachers create their fruits, which are called creative students, that they are causally connected, and that creativity is a synonym for an expert and professional teacher.

The article studies oikonyms of Bosnia and Herzegovina, formed from zoomorphic motifs. The relationship between the oikonym and the zoonym is discussed. How animal terms perform the function of place names has been demonstrated with examples. In the main part of the paper, the author presented the semantic types of zooikonyms. The approach includes the formation and etymology information. Accordingly, the largest number of zooikonyms are of Slavic origin while only one is Greek, which only underlines the theses of the Slavic naming continuum in terms of place naming. It is concluded that the study of zooikonyms is important for determining the region's fauna and the relationship between man and nature.

This paper explores metonymic uses of the body part “hand” in the English language and „ruka” and „šaka” in the Bosnian language. The paper aims to establish similarities and differences between the languages in terms of conceptual metonymies exploiting these body parts. The paper also tries to determine to what extent conceptual metonymy interacts with or exploits other processes of cognitive thinking, namely chained metonymies and metaphors. The methodological framework of corpus analysis is by the taxonomies of metonymy types developed by Radden and Kövecses (1999) and Kövecses (2002) and patterns of conceptual interaction (Diez Velasco 2000, 2002). The study will show that body-part metonymies can form chained metonymies and that they often serve as a basis for metaphorical mapping.

This paper focuses on the notions and images of the Arab Spring in the novel The Republic of False Truths by the contemporary Egyptian writer Ala'a al-Aswani. The paper primarily analyzes the main and secondary characters, as well as the heroes and anti-heroes of the revolution, who are grouped into narrative types, and then structured further into representatives of contemporary collectivities of power. The paper also considers the perspectives of the Arab Spring, the consequences of this uprising on Egyptian society, as well as the phenomena of the overemphasized openness of certain concepts, and the destabilizing significance of the absence in the novel.

This paper analyzes the theory of Islam as a religion that could have formed a rationalistic civilization, based on scientific progress, individualism and democracy. One of the representative studies on this topic is the work of Mustafa Akyol Reopening of Muslim Minds, in which the author uses the method of counterfactual analysis, posing the fundamental question: what would Islamic civilization look like if in the Sunni majority had not prevailed Ash’ari theology, but rationalistic, Mu’tazili theology? Although it could be said that the author of this study does not err when he concludes that Ash’ari occasionalism stopped the development of science in Islam, he nevertheless errs when he claims that the doctrines of voluntarism, predestination, and uncreatedness of the Qur’an, were generators of injustice in Islamic society. In this paper we tried to analyze the metaphysical foundations of these doctrines, re-examine the validity of the hypothesis about their harmfulness, and re-examine whether the observed harmful effects come from Islamic tradition or from the more recent attempts of modernization of Islam.

Emotional manipulation in romantic relationships is a subtle form of controlling a partner through emotional pressure, inducing feelings of guilt, blackmail, ignoring, passive-aggressive behaviors, and other manipulative tactics. However, it is often invisible, elusive, and difficult to prove, which additionally makes this form of abuse highly dangerous. Emotional manipulation can have serious consequences on an individual's mental health, including increased levels of stress, anxiety, and depression. It can also lead to reduced self-confidence, feelings of helplessness, and a loss of control over one's own life. To raise awareness about the harmful effects of emotional manipulation, both for the quality of the romantic relationship, and for the mental health of the individual, this paper presents scientifically-based information on this construct, and describes some of the most common tactics of emotional manipulation, which are used in romantic relationships. Through scientific and professional discussions and education, society can become better informed about emotional manipulation, and create an environment in which victims feel safe to express their issues and seek help.

In the dynamic realm of online gaming, sustaining player engagement and immersion within a virtual environment is paramount for both the player community and game developers. World of Warcraft (WoW), a prominent massively multiplayer online role-playing game (MMORPG), has experienced considerable evolution since its inception in 2004. As gaming technologies advance and player expectations shift, a variety of media platforms, such as forums, social networks, and streaming services, have surfaced, playing a pivotal role in augmenting the WoW gaming experience. This study delves into the impact of different versions of WoW on the players' content experience, focusing on how these media platforms influence player engagement, communication strategies, and problem-solving approaches. Employing qualitative research methods, particularly in-depth interviews, this paper weaves a comprehensive narrative that sheds light on the intersection of technological evolution and gaming experiences. Our findings indicate that the specific version of WoW plays a critical role in shaping player interactions and problem-solving methods. The Classic WoW iteration fosters a sense of community and interaction, necessitating collaboration and the use of external resources. In contrast, Modern WoW has streamlined gameplay mechanics, thereby reducing the emphasis on collaborative efforts and the role of community within the game. This research underscores the fluid nature of social dynamics within the game, evolving in response to the changing preferences and expectations of the player base.

The aim of this paper is to examine how citizens of the City of Zagreb perceive urban security measures, such as cameras, video surveillance, applications for reporting problems to city services and the police, and how they perceive informing citizens about possible self-protective behaviour and security on the official website of the City of Zagreb and about actions to be taken in crisis situations. The research was conducted on a sample of 3,400 adult citizens of the City of Zagreb, and the sample was segmented according to the 17 city districts, with 200 respondents in each. Respondents filled out, in person and online, a questionnaire consisting of nine sections that examined the perception and feeling of (in)security in the City of Zagreb, satisfaction with the quality of life in the city and the district, and a feeling of accountability and willingness to actively participate in creating a feeling of security and raising the quality of life of citizens in the City of Zagreb. The analysis of the obtained results related to the security of citizens indicates that the respondents consider all measures of urban security of citizens important, and additional analyses have indicated that women, compared to men, assess the importance of measures as higher. The tendency of younger respondents to highlight applications as important urban security measures has also been noted. In addition, people with a lower level of trust in other people are more likely to attach greater importance to urban security measures.

A simile is a semantic-stylistic figure, very common in literary texts and authors tend to use it to give their text a new, broader, figurative meaning. In the category of simile, there exist simile phrases, that is, a special type of phraseological unit intended to create a more powerful artistic impression. Given the high frequency of use of these lexical elements in Ivo Andrić's literary works, to conclude their structure and use in Bosnian, we will analyze several phraseological units that contain similes, all taken from Andrić's novel Devil’s Yard. We consider it interesting to observe these lexical units contrastively, so in the Italian translation of Devil’s Yard (La Corte del Diavolo) done by Lionello Costantini, we will identify the Italian equivalents of original simile phrases and analyze their characteristics. With this contrastive analysis, we aim to offer an overview of the basic features of special lexical constructions which contain similes, and to make generalizations about the similarities and differences in their structure, meaning and use in the two language systems. The results of this study will also allow us to comment on the intensity of the author's creativity and the skill of the translator to recognize the semantic and stylistic value of these phraseological units and transfer them into the Italian language.

Zlatko Topčić has built the identity of a novelist who openly tackles new techniques and literary procedures in the wake of postmodern ways of writing. This is supported by the novels created during and after the last war in Bosnia and Herzegovina, where the shadows and traumas of the war are deep in the elements of the text, and the characters are caught in its whirlwind in different ways, prisoners of traumatic conditions even in the time when the storm of events subsides, but remains a long sediment of painful experiences. This text aims to show how a great historical event - the Sarajevo assassination - is artistically transposed in the novel 6/28/1914 (novel, revision), and how the fate of Bosnia and Herzegovina during the war in the period 1992-1995 can be traced through its outlines. With a collection of characters, historical and fictional, narrative organization of space and time, intertextuality, and an ironic relationship with metanarratives, Topčić creates a text as a product of personal stories from which a novelistic mosaic of historical events is created.

Any interlingual translation that transposes a literary text from the original to the target language almost always conveys particular knowledge and life experiences from the culture in which the text was originally created. In this paper, the translation of the novel When I Was a Hodja by Damir Ovčina into Spanish is analyzed, focusing on culturally marked elements. The manner in which the cultural themes of the original text were transferred to the target culture is observed. It is emphasized that, when it comes to translations of literary narratives in which depictions of wars are exhibited, the translator’s task becomes all the more important because he/she contributes to the production of new knowledge and new ideas about wars through his/her translation, and, therefore, special attention must be given to the translation of cultures in such texts.

The subject of this paper is the analysis of the application of the Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of the Crime of Genocide of 1951 before the International Court of Justice in The Hague, in the case of Bosnia and Herzegovina v. Serbia and Montenegro, for violating the provisions of this Convention. This Court shall, by Article IX of the Convention, have jurisdiction in disputes between contracting states, concerning the interpretation, application and enforcement of the Convention, including those relating to the responsibility of a state for the crime of genocide or any other offense established in Article III of the Convention. Article I of the Convention stipulates that states are obliged to prevent genocide and punish the perpetrator. Furthermore, the responsibility of states under Article IX of the Convention relates only to the state’s failure to prevent the commission of genocide and other acts under Article III of the Convention and to punish the perpetrators. An analysis of the text of the Convention and the content of the claim of Bosnia and Herzegovina of 24 April 2006, shows that the claim of Bosnia and Herzegovina falls outside the scope of Article IX of the Convention, which is especially problematized in this paper by the author.

The paper aims to establish the idea of Bosnian textology on the basis of the comparative-textological analysis of different editions of Mak Dizdar's Stone Sleeper and Old Bosnian Texts. Different fates and receptions of the two books have been analyzed from the perspective of the Bosnian-Herzegovinian culture and literature in the 20th century, with an emphasis on the crossroads as one of its key topographical figures. The origin of this feature was ascribed to Midhat Begic, even though Mak Dizdar had used it long before him with the same exact meaning that would be dominantly exploited in the future. The paper then problematizes different editions of Stone Sleeper and questions the closing word of textological attempts that aspire to be characterized as authentic and definitive.

The teacher`s profession represents one of the most important and the most human professions. With their work, teachers influence on lives and development of their students importantly, and if affinities, abilities, and personalities of students will be developed in their full capacity depending on the teacher in a significant way. Through their personality, their knowledge, motivation, their competencies teachers influence the effectiveness of the whole educational process. On the other side, the success of an adult and its contribution to the development of any society depends on such effectiveness. Teachers` competencies development depends on their talent, wish, and readiness for permanent professional learning. The tempo of the technologies’ development today will require more and more adoption of changes which will, consequently, come in the educational process. So, this article aims to direct the analysis of the role of teachers` competencies and their professional development.

The results of the analyses show that in addition to the differences that exist between different disciplines, there is generally a trend of an increase in the number of researches conducted as a team and a decrease in the number of individually conducted research. Therefore, the paper aimed to look at the possibilities, assumptions, and challenges of achieving an interdisciplinary approach to basic, developmental, and applied research in didactics using the method of theoretical analysis and synthesis. Basic research is applied not only in didactics, but also in disciplines closely related to didactics (psychology, sociology, philosophy, cybernetics...) and forms the basis for establishing didactic regularities, and has the task of determining didactic knowledge of capital value and significantly influences the development of didactic theories, educational and teaching practices in all types and levels of schools and other educational institutions and forms of organized learning and teaching. An interdisciplinary approach to developmental research, which refers to the investigation of the regularities of the application of research results obtained through basic research, can directly contribute to the improvement of didactic theory and practice. Through applied didactic research of an interdisciplinary character, researchers find solutions for specific practical questions and problems of educational and teaching practice in certain conditions based on known didactic knowledge. Certain assumptions and challenges in the realization of interdisciplinary research in didactics aim to ensure methodological competence, scientific objectivity, and the integration of several disciplines. In the concluding remarks, it was emphasized that research methodology in didactics that has an interdisciplinary approach is not realized in isolation, but in dynamic and creative cooperation with other disciplines. With integrated basic, developmental, and applied didactic research of an interdisciplinary character, we contribute to the development of scientific theory and progressive changes in teaching practice and the educational process in general.

When talking about the rule of law as a contemporary constitutional and theoretical principle, most of the public usually refers to the period of the emergence of theoretical models that tend to the modern understanding of the organization of the state, legal order, and society, from the period of the Enlightenment to the period of various theoretical concepts of the modern era. However, as it is known in the domain of constitutional theory, ideas concerning the concept and purpose of government, the constitution, laws and legislation, rights and obligations, legality and legitimacy, and all other categories that constitute elements of the principle of the rule of law (as it is understood today) – as a very complex notion, have been the subject of consideration since the earliest times, at the very beginnings of the development of the philosophical-legal thought. The purpose of this paper, by its capacity and scope, is not contained in the elaboration of all theoretical models regarding elements that make the content of the rule of law which appeared during the historical development of human civilization – which would otherwise be an impossible task, but in the elaboration of some characteristic theoretical considerations during ancient and medieval period in which the beginnings of the idea of the rule of law can be found as well as the very beginnings of the development of that idea in contemporary sense.

Higher education, compliant with the new trends, expects students to have a more active and individual engagement in the learning process. Collaborative learning, research-based teaching and learning, and constructive approach are being promoted. Students are expected to demonstrate critical thinking, creativity, and resourcefulness to be qualified for the labor market as well as lifelong learning. The education process at higher education institutions is enriched with collaborations with important institutions that serve as a teaching base aiming to create diverse learning and teaching opportunities. This paper aims to investigate students' opinions about using resources of the University of Sarajevo's teaching base – a museum. Students are asked about the museum as a learning place, their experiences when visiting a museum, and the reasons and frequency of their museum visits. The question is if the students visit museums to explore certain topics for assignments during their studies and how they perceive such forms of learning. 65 students of the University of Sarajevo participated in the research. The results point to the importance of generating a new audience for museums, maintaining the existing one by creating stimulating activities and designing such a teaching process that would prompt students to return to, explore and learn in museums.

Mustafa Ejubović-Šejh Jujo, one of our prominent Arabic-language writers, lived in Bosnia and Herzegovina during the transition between the 17th and 18th centuries. Besides being a highly prolific author in the fields of Arabic stylistics and Islamic theology, respected not only locally but also throughout the Ottoman Empire at that time, he is also one of the significant figures in Bosniak oral traditions. Over the past few centuries, various anecdotes about him have been retold, fueling the imagination and strengthening beliefs for generations. These narratives, belonging to the genre of oral traditions about saints (evliyas) in Bosniak oral tradition, focus on the miracles and supernatural powers bestowed upon these extraordinary individuals. What is interesting in the case of this extraordinary mufti from Mostar is that, unlike other figures in Bosnian folklore, there is a wealth of biographical data and facts about him, which has led to controversial perspectives among many researchers regarding their intersection with numerous oral traditions.

The paper deals with the basic elements of film art as well as the evolution of the film medium. The film, as a medium of storytelling, experiences changes due to the advancement of technology, and the production of a film in an amateur context becomes more accessible and democratic. The authors of the text discuss the technical elements of storytelling in film, and regardless of technological improvement, the quality of the narrative remains at the center of craftsmanship. The importance of handling the basic elements of the camera and editing, and the creation of an emotional correspondence between the film and the audience, is emphasized. In addition to the aspect of storytelling and entertainment, the film inevitably affects a change in cultural and social perspectives. In the past years, digital technology has brought about changes in the understanding of film reality, and the future has the tendency to transform from a film performance into a film experience. The authors discuss the elementary aspects of the film, which regardless of technological aspirations, will remain essential in filmmaking.

The authors of this paper start from the position that horizontal learning implies a reflective dialogue among participants in the learning process within the professional development of teachers and preschool teachers, critical examination, observation, and understanding of theory and practice from different perspectives, building common knowledge, skills, and values based on which the necessary changes in practice can be planned and implemented. The findings of several types of research indicate that horizontal learning, despite the recognized benefit by the participants of the process, is still poorly represented in practice. The research aims to examine the factors that, according to school teachers and educators, negatively affect their motivation to participate in horizontal learning and at the analysis of their proposals on how to overcome the existing problems and difficulties in the current practice of horizontal learning in the Republic of Serbia. The combined method was applied in the research. The research sample included preschool teachers, subject and classroom teachers employed in institutions from several cities in the Republic of Serbia. For the quantitative part of the research, a questionnaire was constructed (N=330), while the qualitative part of the research was carried out through a semi-structured interview (N=30). Based on the obtained research findings, we can conclude that an unfavorable social environment for learning is the dominant factor that determines the motivation of teachers and educators to participate in horizontal learning activities. In this regard, the research findings indicate that with a higher level of support for horizontal learning in the institutions where the respondents are employed, their motivation to participate in horizontal learning activities also increases. Teachers and preschool teachers recognize the director of the institution as a leader of changes and development of the institution, but also as a manager who provides conditions for the realization of horizontal learning. Research findings and concluding considerations contribute to mapping current practice and a more complete understanding of the process of horizontal learning, providing a basis for creating future policies for the professional development of employees in education.

Historical examples show and confirm the continued disenfranchisement of people with disabilities in all areas. In this regard, it is not a particularly different situation in the field of media representation of this marginalized group. A low level of awareness and knowledge about disability contributes to people with disabilities directly or indirectly discriminating, marginalizing, and at the same time creating unfounded attitudes, stereotypes, and stigma about them. Starting from the above, the text analyzes the current media presentation of persons with disabilities in Bosnia and Herzegovina. The analysis included printed, more precisely the content of daily editions of Dnevni avaz newspaper in the period from April 1 to May 4, 2023, in which, in the analyzed period, a total of nine (9) topics were published. The contents of electronic media (Federal Television, Radio Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Radio-Television of Republika Srpska, Radio-Television of Republika Srpska, Radio Republika Srpska) were also analyzed, and on which, in the period from 08 to 22 May 2023, nine (9) topics that directly or indirectly concern people with disabilities were presented in news shows. The research aimed to point out the inadequate approach to reporting on disability more precisely to point out that people with disabilities and topics important to them are marginalized in media content in Bosnia and Herzegovina, and that they do not reflect the real-life conditions of members of that population.

The paper analyzes the discursive strategies of apparent empathy and ideological polarization that were used to legitimize discrimination against covered female students in the Republic of Turkey. We approached this complex social problem from the point of view of critical discourse analysis, which represents an interdisciplinary research area centered on the interest in researching the manipulative use of language. The ban on wearing headscarves in universities in Turkey was the fruit of the Kemalist conception of modernism and hegemony established by the Kemalist elites. An important role in preserving that hegemony was also played by the media, whose primary goal was to legitimize social injustice and protect the social order based on an asymmetric distribution of power. They performed this role of the media through the manipulative use of language within clearly recognizable discursive strategies, which was shown by the analysis of the newspaper text that is the subject of this paper.

This paper explores the portrayal of violence and gender in its relation to different historical periods, countries, cultures, and religions. The aim is to determine the role these different aspects have in forming of characters’ identities and more specifically how it is all related to gender. The research will focus on Toni Morrison’s A Mercy, Elena Ferrante’s Tetralogy My Brilliant Friend, and Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie’s Purple Hibiscus. All three novels, regardless of the different periods they fictionalize and discuss, and the literature they belong to, are connected by the captivating darkness that runs deeply through their fictional fiber and portrays the horrible conditions and struggles women have to go through because of the violence they were succumbed to, but also the violence they have to resort to to survive and even thrive in the ever-changing, but always firmly men’s world. Morrison’s novel is set in the early stages of the slave trade in America when racial, religious, and class tensions were just beginning to form, Ferrante’s tetralogy focuses on the post-WWII Italy, poverty-stricken and violent neighborhoods of the outskirts of Naples, and Purple Hibiscus is set in postcolonial Nigeria, a country struggling with political instability and economic difficulties. All three authors with their respective novels render vibrant pictures of the lives of young girls and grown women, mothers, daughters, and friends, across times, countries, but also classes, that offer plenty of space for comparative research focusing on the presence and role of violence in their lives.

With the development of globalization and continuous changes in terms of the formal inclusion of children in social systems, the need for acceptance and inclusion in the system of children with special social support needs has been recognized. The research aimed to determine the circumstances that are significant for the professional development of preschool teachers (frequency, motivation, forms, self-assessment of abilities, application of new knowledge, and cooperation) for the needs of inclusive educational practice in preschool institutions. A convenience sample of 141 preschool teachers from the territory of the cities of Pirot and Niš participated in the research. Teachers expressed their views on this topic using a Likert-type scale composed of 52 items divided into 7 subscales, through the use of a Google Forms questionnaire. The obtained results show that: teachers consider continuous professional development for the organization and implementation of inclusive practice to be significant and necessary; teachers enhance their expertise in the field of inclusion through activities such as thematic workshops, online programs, and joint activities with other teachers, while individual and group research is less frequently applied. Preschool teachers with fewer years of work experience apply various forms of professional development in the field of inclusion. Teachers who implement inclusive educational practices with the nursery or younger preschool group are less motivated for professional development in the field of inclusion. Preschool teachers with less work experience tend to apply new knowledge in the field of inclusion (acquired through professional development). Based on the obtained results, it is recommended to encourage and support teachers in choosing activities for professional development that contribute to the development of skills and knowledge for working in inclusive educational practice.

Placement in a social protection institution for children without (adequate) parental care is one form of social protection for children who need care. In the Republic of Srpska, by the Law on Social Protection, social institutions are established by the Republic of Srpska. For children without (adequate) parents who need placement in the Republic of Srpska, there is one social institution in which children and youth are provided with housing, food, clothing, assistance in education and training for work, care, health care, and other needs fulfillment. This paper presents the results of the research on the subjective assessment of aspects of the quality of life in a social institution for children without (adequate) parental care. The concept of quality of life is theoretically elaborated through subjective theories of quality of life. Quality of life was observed and measured as a multidimensional construct that refers to the physical, psychological, social, and behavioral components of children and youth placed in a social welfare institution. The method of content analysis was used to collect and analyze data, as well as in the empirical part of the research when processing and interpreting the research findings. Data were collected by the survey method with the use of a questionnaire instrument (KIDSCREEN-27). For data processing and analysis, different statistical methods were used. The results showed that children and youth placed in a social institution for children without (adequate) parental care in the Republic of Srpska rate all five examined aspects of life positively. Most of the aspects were rated as satisfactory. The overall mean value rating for all aspects is 3.52, which is an encouraging finding, due to the permanent need for residential placement for children without (adequate) parental care.

The results of the analysis of selected texts from five academic journals were presented and discussed in finding answers to three research questions: (1) How is the academic disciplinary framework of human resource development considered in the analyzed texts? (2) Which academic disciplines are considered necessary for building a human resources knowledge base? (3) What research topics are highlighted in the analyzed texts?

When we talk about education, we usually mean planned influences that are exerted on the student to develop all his potential on the one hand. On the other hand, the question arises whether there are unintended influences in the education process, whether their outcome is positive or negative, and whether pedagogy also deals with such spontaneous, unintended processes. Therefore, the goal of this research was to examine and analyze the views of pedagogues, associate and scientific-teaching professions on the nature of the influence that is realized within the framework of education. The sample has the characteristics of a deliberate and convenient sample, and it is composed of pedagogues with associate and scientific-teaching titles from two public universities in the Republic of Srpska. The paper used the method of theoretical analysis and descriptive statistics, and of the techniques, the survey technique. The results show that pedagogues, associate, and scientific-teaching professions under education imply a synthesis of intentional and unintentional influences on the student, only a small number of pedagogues consider that the term functional education is inadequate for what it represents and do not give suggestions for its redefinition. The pedagogues think that the (un)intentionality of education is still a current and open question of pedagogy, but not a fundamental one. In the context of the environment, they believe that the family community is a synthesis of intentional and unintentional influence, and the same integrations are not renounced in the institutional environment as well as in the educational activities that took place even in the pre-civilization period. The results can serve as an initial investigation of the phenomenon of (un)intentionality in education and serve as a basis for further quantitatively and qualitatively larger research, but also for the theoretical foundations of all those who in any way discuss the theoretical issues of general pedagogy.

Today’s generation of young people is immersed in the virtual world, which increasingly leads to a negative trend - socially isolated individuals. Recently, there has been an accelerated development of social networks that have changed the way of communication and interaction between people, which has had a special impact on young people. There are multiple attempts to reduce the time spent on social networks because of the countless consequences that arise: anxiety, depression, irritability, restlessness, frequent mood swings. Therefore, the main problem was to examine the relationship between virtual behavior on social networks with adolescent anxiety while the goal was to assess the virtual behavior of young people in relation to gender and school success as well as the relationship of virtual behavior on social networks with anxiety in raising awareness of the importance of prevention and adolescent mental health care. The research was conducted among 215 high school students, ages 15 to 19 years from the Tuzla Canton, Bosnia and Herzegovina. There were 117 male (54.42%) and 98 (45.58%) female participants. The questionnaire used to analyze virtual behavior on social networks (VPDM) is divided into six subscales (DM addiction, alienation, socializing, negative attitude, self-presentation, and virtual self). The Anxiety Rating Scale (AT 29) was used to assess anxiety. The findings show that all facets of virtual conduct on social networks are associated with anxiety. When it comes to gender differences in the examined aspects of virtual behavior, the results show that girls achieve statistically significantly higher results on the dimensions of dependence on social networks and virtual alienation compared to boys, while these gender differences did not prove to be statistically significant on other aspects of virtual behavior. In addition, with the exception of virtual alienation, the study discovered a negative relationship between academic success and features of virtual behavior. The results indicate that in order to make more rational use of social networks, strategies are needed for preventive action, the preservation of the mental health of young people and improvement of their school achievement.

The purpose of this paper is to show how the elements of oral literature interpolate in the contemporary literature for children and youth of the prominent Bosnian-Herzegovinian authors Alija Isaković and Ljubica Ostojić.Firstly, this Paper theoretically elaborates on the presence of the elements of oral literature in the literature for children and youth. These two different literary directions touch each other at their roots, and in the contemporary interpolation, they exist parallelly in the genre re-semanticization of the elements of oral literature. Following theoretical postulates of the most prominent authors from the South-Slavic Interliterary Community in the field of researching oral literature and literature for children and youth, we will show how the linguistic-stylistic heritage is re-interpreted through the traditional oral literary forms in the texts of contemporary authors, and how the elements of orality appear in new narrative structures- short stories and fairy tales of a new type. We will show how the rhetorical and rhythmical values of a text spill over in linguistic audacity, and how old oral structures; folk songs, and folk tales are narratively defamiliarized, deconstructed, and parodied.

This article examines the effectiveness of various policies and strategies aimed at promoting women’s participation in politics in Nigeria, implemented by advocacy groups, international organizations, political parties, and the Nigerian government. Despite the legal right of women to engage in politics and governance, cultural beliefs have hindered their active involvement in politics, leading to inadequate representation of women in politics. By liberal feminist theory, the study evaluates women’s responses to these initiatives, the challenges encountered in implementing them, and how political parties can enhance their effectiveness. The article suggests that legislative reform is necessary to enable women to achieve equal status to men in society, which will boost women’s political participation. Furthermore, it argues that Nigeria’s political parties have not done enough to encourage women’s participation in politics. Hence, political parties should establish a welcoming and inclusive environment accommodating women’s needs. To achieve this, political parties should organize party meetings at convenient and accessible times and places for women, eliminate obstacles that impede women’s participation in politics, develop gender-sensitive training programs to enhance women’s confidence and skills, and establish mentoring programs to support potential women candidates in navigating the political landscape.

The premise of the existence of artificial languages is the intention of their creators. Given that language presupposes culture as a certain type of systematic relationship of a community to the objective world, and that idioms are translators of culture, it should be assumed that even in artificial languages we can encounter idioms as units that additionally cohere the existence of the artificial culture. Therefore, in this paper, we will talk about the artlang of Herbert's novels and it will be shown that we must speak of a special type of artlang, which in this paper we call idiolang, since idioms appear as the most common part of the Dune language. They are a result of the writer's focus on culture. Idioms serve as reliable indicators of the authentical fictional culture and signs of social coordination.

The present text provides an analysis of Krleža’s deliberations on medieval Bosnian art, which are most evidently reflected in his views about the tombstones – the stećci. Back in the 1950s, following Tito’s split with Stalin, Miroslav Krleža organized an exhibition in Paris, France, themed “Medieval Art of Yugoslav Peoples”, placing the tombstones in the center of attention. The reason for this lies in the fact that, in their appearance as monuments, he recognized the heretic efforts of the Bosnian Church, which was persecuted in the Middle Ages by Western Catholicism and Eastern Orthodox Christianity. Similarly, Tito’s Yugoslavia expressed its heretic character by standing up against the Western capitalist bloc – NATO, as well as Stalin’s dogmatism – the Warsaw Pact. The reason for the persecution of the members of the Bosnian Church back in the day was religious, whereas in the 1950s when Yugoslavia was fighting for its independent road towards further building socialism, the split was purely ideological. When the Berlin Wall fell and Yugoslavia was crushed by aggressive nationalist politics, many intellectuals found Krleža’s observations on the importance of the Bosnian medieval tombstones an expression of naïve romanticism, or an ideological construction hiding Tito’s absolute power, and his thirst for power and ethnic balancing. This text attempts to reaffirm Krleža’s deliberations on the tombstones, which, the author of these lines believes have not at all lost their importance, nor do they merely represent “an idealized past”.

Although there is no generally accepted definition of school climate and a single position on its dimensions, most authors agree that school climate is a multidimensional and complex construct, which refers to the quality and character of school life. Although the available empirical literature abounds with evidence of the effects of school climate on academic and psychosocial outcomes of education, this relationship continues to occupy the attention of researchers. This paper provides an overview of recent research on this issue with the aim of determining the connection between the key dimensions of the school climate (academic, social and physical) and parental involvement in children’s education. Review and analysis of electronically available literature was performed according to appropriate criteria. After the literature review, the ten most influential research studies were selected for analysis. The most important results of the studies included in the analysis are: between school climate and parental involvement there is a positive connection of moderate to strong intensity; all three dimensions of school climate are significantly related to parental involvement; ethnicity and school size influence the strength of the relationship between school climate and parental involvement. Based on the presented empirical findings, it can be concluded that the school climate is important for improving the cooperation between the family and the school. Accordingly, recommendations for future research and practice are given.

Starting from the hypothesis that literature represents one of the active mechanisms of social and historical change and that the imagological images it offers have the potential to be written into cultural identity, the paper problematizes the (political-)ideological concept of narrative cultural identity. Having found an example in the contemporary literature of Bosnia and Herzegovina, the work points to the complexity of the relationship between literature and ideology in the process of re/defining, de/constructing, and maintaining cultural identity. The paper concludes that literature has the potential of generating and disseminating an (anti)ideologically based system of knowledge and values, whereby, in terms of its relationship to ideology, it occupies a dual position, becoming, on one hand, an ideal, Althusserian understood, ideological apparatus or a subversive mechanism of the dominant ideology, on the other side.

Amir Karic's The Dictionary of Politics ambitiously contains around 300 wide range of terms, from the basic categories of political science, law, and other related scientific disciplines, to the terms used in colloquial speech. The terms have been arranged in alphabetical order, which indicates that the author has already presented the world of politics through political concepts defined as separate units, and not through relations between terms and conceptual clusters. The author's approach in defining most of the terms in The Dictionary of Politics is by defining them as separate entities/units, without consideration of their relation to other terms, and even less so, their consideration from the aspect of certain conceptual clusters and ideological doctrines. Therefore, the conception of the world of politics in The Dictionary of Politics by Prof. Karic, often looks blurred and unclear. It is a world of extracted separate particularities whose understanding is just guessed, without an internal connection between them that would form a more complete depiction of the world of politics. The main reason for deficiencies in definitions of fundamental concepts of politics by Prof. Amir Karic is that he overlooked the complex relations between the concepts of politics and political, or political, as the ontological assumption of politics. But it is necessary to say that the author did not even have such ambitions. The dictionary is exclusively the function of training students of political science, and other related scientific disciplines, for whom it is known that they do not yet possess the knowledge of the meanings of basic political, sociological, and legal terms, which would allow them to follow and comprehend lectures held by professor Karić. In this way, we have received a dictionary of an informative nature for the needs of elemental understanding of basic terms in lectures of political, and related sciences. As such, it can serve its planned purpose (elemental literacy of students to understand the world of politics), but it cannot represent the basis for understanding the foundations of political science.

The summary is dedicated to the recently published monography "Zagreb Stylistic School" by Dubravka Oraić Tolić. The academic writes about the golden age of Croatian literary science related to the establishment and work of the Zagreb Stylistic School, which emerged in the 1950s. Following the "rise and fall" of the School, she discusses the institutions founded by the School, its types and methods of work, and especially the contribution of its founders and followers (Škreb, Flaker, Frangeš, and Žmegač). Oraić Tolić successfully presents to the modern reader the social and political context in which the School grew and built its national identity. In this respect, she is inspiring in contemplating the dissemination of knowledge in the field of national identification, the principles and boundaries of text analysis, the declarative program (paradigms of approach to literary works), and deviations.

The main aim of this review is to systematize and present evidence from recent scientific studies regarding the role of early mathematical competencies in later mathematics achievement, as well as to analyze characteristics of educational and family environments that facilitate the development of these competencies in children. Presented longitudinal studies provide clear evidence that early math competencies significantly predict later mathematical outcomes. Reviewed studies also suggest that how adults and children interact in terms of mathematics activities is related to children’s mathematics development. In both formal education and family environment, adults who use everyday situations and activities for reasoning, communicating, and mathematical thinking seem to be the most important factor for fostering early math competencies. These findings are also discussed in the context of BiH where most children do not attend formal early education.

This paper presents the results of the theoretical-historical study and research of the thoughts and ideas of Sreten Adžić (1856-1933), a famous pedagogue and the leading representative of the Pestalocian orientation in our pedagogy. The subject of study is the analysis of the most significant Adžić theses focused on the development and work of the Male Teacher's School in Jagodina. We see the significance of this work in the interpretation of Sreten Adžić's views on upbringing and education, which greatly influenced the modernization of teaching, as well as in the presentation of his advanced visions of creating an innovative school environment with field classrooms, workshops, practice rooms, a botanical garden, and a boarding school. We will try to look at contemporary pedagogical issues from a historical perspective while presenting Adžić's ideas still relevant today.

This paper aims to provide the urban-sociological context for the significant proliferation of the topic of Christ Cleansing the Temple in 16th-century painting. Widely accepted interpretations of this phenomenon consider it exclusively in the context of the Counter-Reformation, i.e. the Catholic Revival, considering the topic to be a symbol of the rejection of Protestant dogma or, otherwise, the Church's struggle against the demoralization of its clerics. The Counter-Reformation context is indisputably significant. However, certain socioeconomic processes that mark the 16th century, such as the development of protocapitalism in Italy, i.e. the establishment of year-round trade in the city and the emergence of a new, politically and economically dominant class of merchants and bankers, also emerge as an aspect worth examining. French sociologist Henri Lefebvre considered the 16th century to be a turning point in the development of urban forms and pointed out the connection between this biblical story and the disdain for the restructuring of the city which was due to those changes. Owing to his theses on the production of space, we will observe a dual involvement of the Church in the motions of inhibition and initiation of processes which, by producing a new type of space, disrupt the balance that ensured its material and symbolic power.

The article addresses the issue of liability for artificial intelligence through the analysis of civil liability for autonomous entities in Bosnia and Herzegovina. First, it addresses the issue of applying vicarious liability in the law of Bosnia and Herzegovina, and it elaborates on its limitations. The example of the treatment of animals in case law indicates the possibility of creatively interpreting the existing legal framework in order to create a functional equivalent of situations that are not included in the scope of vicarious liability, but nonetheless treat liability for autonomous entities.

The paper analyses the representation and occurrence of topics about heritage in Croatian Science textbooks for the 4th-grade primary school, published by the leading Croatian textbook publishers and approved by the Croatian Ministry of Science and Education. The conducted research aimed to determine the representation and appearance of heritage topics in the mentioned textbooks and, based on the results, to provide guidelines for further activities and necessary research to improve the quality of teaching heritage content in the lower grades of primary school. It was established that the greatest attention was paid to tangible cultural heritage, and the least to intangible cultural heritage. It would be good to include more tasks in the textbooks that would encourage the observation of cause-and-effect relationships in the actions of people on natural and cultural heritage and encourage students to reflect on concrete procedures for preserving and protecting the same. Considering teachers' freedom in accessing and teaching certain teaching contents, which the new curriculum of Science and curriculum of cross-curricular topics provide, the question of access and competence of teachers in teaching heritage topics in class is opened.

Equity in the academic context is an important construct that affects the cognitive, emotional, and behavioral reactions of an individual. The study of fairness in the work context is extremely important, considering that a person spends a lot of time in the workplace during his life. Several studies so far have shown that affecting one's perception of equity can affect the individual itself- improving one's productivity, satisfaction, and such. (Galinec 2017). Distributive equity is based on Adams' (1965) equity theory, more specifically on its assumption that people do not care as much about the absolute outcome, compared to the equity of the outcome itself. Regarding stress, the academic staff in Slišković (2012) explored different sources of stress that result in reduced productivity. Some of the universal sources of stress, such as inadequate compensation and recognition within an organization, are linked to distributive equity. The goal of the research was to show if distributive inequity exists within an academic environment and if that inequity reflects stress levels inside that environment. The academic workers who took part in this research are employees of the following higher education institutions: the University of Zenica, the University of Sarajevo, the University “Džemal Bijedić” in Mostar, and the University of Bihać. The inventory contains 21 items. The research took place in July 2022. The descriptive method was used as a scientific research method. The results show that academic workers perceive distributive inequity in certain situations, and it correlates with an increase in their stress levels.

By applying the figure of a closed circle, the paper aims to interpret the phenomenon of palanka, elaborated by Radomir Konstatinovic in his book titled Philosophy of Palanka. One of the main goals of the nationalism of palanka is achieving completeness, inhibition, and rooting itself in the reality of an island/isolation, thus emphasizing uniqueness, chosen, and perfect nature. Through the prism of the Bible, it is often believed that a nation, chosen by God, should be the one to transfer the message to the rest of humanity. The God-chosen nature could refer to the fact the nation is bearing a universal, messianic message aimed at humanity in total - but it could also mean that the nation, perfect as it is, should not mingle with other nations, but live its circular reality of an island. Konstatinovic points out that a palanka is always somewhere between openness and inhibition, between city and country life. This does not imply that palanka does know its borders so that it could open up - but that it prefers distance, reservation, and residing in its perfection of a closed circle. Relying on the circle - this paper not only provides a new angle for reading the Philosophy of Palanka, but also strives to obtain new insight into the nationalism of palanka.

The necessity to establish a culture of public policy at all levels of state organization in Bosnia and Herzegovina stems from the dissatisfactory position of culture in society, as well as its marginalization. This paper focuses on the creation of a cultural heritage policy. Cultural heritage policy was chosen due to the importance of cultural heritage for Bosnia and Herzegovina and its population but also because of a non-existent solution for the prevention of its decay, devastation, and looting. Cultural heritage policy may be defined as a systemic and planned attitude of the state and its authorities towards the sector of cultural heritage. There is a need to create a cultural heritage policy, as a public sector policy arises in a moment of increased interest among international and national organizations of culture for studying the phenomenon of heritage. The importance of heritage is further increased due to its connections with the economy and tourism. The paper emphasizes that the creation of cultural heritage policy is conditioned by the existence of state/parastate authorities for the sector, by passing the regulations to arrange the sector of cultural heritage, by determining the model for financing the sector, and by adopting strategic documents determining the guidelines for the development of the sector.

In modern society, future teachers need to be able to recognize the potential offered by multicultural children's literature in promoting intercultural values in children as well as to feel confident in their ability to choose authentic teaching materials. Three picture books (The Rabbits' Wedding, Morris Micklewhite, and the Tangerine Dress and And Tango Makes Three) and one illustrated story (The Story of Little Black Sambo) were selected for research of students’ intercultural competence. The general research aim was to research the intercultural competence of Teacher Education students using authentic works of multicultural children's literature, whereby the specific aims sought to explore: a) students’ attitudes about the appropriateness of the selected topics for lower elementary school teaching; b) students’ ability to recognize whether the text and illustrations of the selected picture books/illustrated story promote intercultural values (e.g., acceptance of diversity, equality, empathy); c) whether students are trained to recognize the controversial content in the selected picture books/illustrated story, d) student’ self-assessed readiness to address the selected topics in their future teaching; e) student’ self-assessed difficulty in recognizing the representation of intercultural values in the content of the selected picture books/illustrated story. The sample of participants included fifty-six fourth-year Teacher Education students (40 students from the University of Rijeka and 16 students from the University of Pula) during two consecutive academic years (2020/2021 and 2011/2022). The participants filled out a questionnaire that examined the concordance between the content of the selected titles and the promotion of intercultural values, the existence of controversial topics, and the appropriateness of addressing the selected topics in lower elementary school teaching as well as the students’ self-assessed abilities to implement the topics of the selected works in their future teaching and the difficulty of recognizing intercultural values in the selected works were explored. The majority of students recognized the controversial nature of the three selected picture books – the implicit advocacy of the rights and equality of marginalized groups (same-sex adoption, depiction of transgender people, marriage of people of different skin color). Almost two-thirds of the participants encountered difficulties in assessing the presence of intercultural values in the selected literary works.

In this paper, the authors start by considering the possibilities offered by professional development programs to teachers. These programs imply designed and planned monitoring of one’s teacher competencies, in order to respond to contemporary demands and societal needs adequately. The aim of the research was to examine whether the evaluation of instructional interventions in professional development programs for teachers, in terms of their applicability to educational work with students, affects the teachers’ motivation for further professional development. In this context, teachers’ expectations from these programs were analyzed, as well as their sense of responsibility for learning outcomes (student achievements, teaching quality, student relations, etc.). The research sample included elementary school teachers from the city of Novi Sad. This research can contribute to a better understanding of the needs and expectations of teachers from professional development programs. At the same time, it can also serve as a guideline for the further improvement of the efficiency and content of these programs.

In recent years, cyberspace has emerged as a prominent realm for young people, perceived by them as at least as important as real life. Cyberspace has become a field for the satisfaction of many psychological needs and has brought to life novel factors that influence development among children and youth. As a consequence, the educational sphere has been dramatically affected by the changes in the psychological functions, behaviors, and habits of students, who are becoming increasingly different from what educators were trained for only a few decades ago. Causal connections are yet to be examined experimentally, and longitudinal research takes more time. In the meantime, based on theoretical assumptions in psychology and educational sciences, some of the changes that affect the motivation and behavior of students in the classroom can be assumed. With this being said, the following article, using the perspective of self-determination theory, is aimed at understanding changes in students’ motivation, engagement, and behavior caused by cyber-psychological factors. How are the attention and habits of new generations different? How does this affect their involvement and motivation to learn in the classroom? How do students’ emotional experiences that potentially permeate classrooms reflect their increased immersion in the digital world? What are the most important lessons from cyberpsychology that educational professionals need to be aware of to maximize the benefits of their teaching to students? This article attempts to provide some answers and recommendations regarding these vital issues.

The paper discusses the visual response to text as a reading strategy employed to determine which parts or main ideas of the text the reader focuses on while reading. It starts with an assumption that every reading is a unique experience to which readers bring their previous experiences, cultural and social backgrounds, as well as general or specific knowledge. Therefore, the aim of the paper is to provide a better insight into active reading (Carillo 2017) and present results of a case study that, through visual responses to reading, also addresses text processing in a multimodal setting. The methodological framework comprises a visual response task that requires that the readers draw or sketch a visual interpretation of the text. In this way, sketching in response to reading is used as a complementary component and a visualization tool in the reading process (Wilhelm 1995; Fernandes 2018). Based on the results of the research, it is proposed that visual response to reading can be used to enhance multimodal creativity, and vocabulary acquisition and fully immerse readers in the reading process.

Laura Papo Bohoreta's theater, presented through the analysis of plays of the Sephardic tradition and social dramas, is the central topic of this work. On the one hand, we focus on the process of emancipation of the female characters, on the other, we highlight the need to preserve tradition. Two processes that the author combines in her dramatic work, either through conflicts between generations or through convergences between them. We present some of her texts as an example of her way of considering theater, where we find no gap between the dramatic text and the performance.

The paper focuses on the divergent national perspectives – Croatian and Serbian – regarding the reasons behind Yugoslavia's unification (the Kingdom of SHS), moreover on the causes of its disappearance from the historical scene, both as the Kingdom of Serbs, Croats, and Slovenes and as the Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia. From the perspective of Serbian „nationally conscious“ historians, it was the Croatian separatism that should be blamed for the downfall of the Kingdom of Yugoslavia during the Italian and German occupation in 1941 as well as the inner disintegration of the Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia in 1991. From the Croatian perspective, the reason behind the downfall of Yugoslavia is in Serbian unitarism, which, through Yugoslavia, aimed to dominate over the other nations. While condemning the nationalistic politics of other nations for the breakup of Yugoslavia, both of these nationalistic perspectives consider Yugoslavia an artificial creation. Miroslav Krleža, a Croatian and Yugoslav writer, criticized the politics of Croatian national separatism and Serbian unitarism in the texts he wrote during the time of the Kingdom of SHS (Yugoslavia). These writings also represent his efforts to open a possibility for a new political community based on socialistic principles. Although his polemic thought was based on the recognition of national particularities, Krleža was looking for ways to overcome the national antagonisms within socialist Yugoslavia. Although Yugoslavia disappeared, his thought on nationalistic antagonisms is relevant in the current political framework, the one in which national exclusion is dominating.

Based on available archival material and periodicals, the author reconstructs the life story of Javer Effendi Baruch, one of the most respected and wealthy citizens of Sarajevo, during the Austro-Hungarian administration of Bosnia and Herzegovina. The personality of Javer Eff. Baruch has not been thoroughly researched in the historiography so far. It is known that Baruch gained a social reputation during Ottoman rule. After the arrival of Austria-Hungary in Bosnia and Herzegovina, he not only managed to preserve and strengthen his social position but also acquired enviable wealth. This paper aims to present the unusual life path of a Sephardic from Sarajevo. The paper analyzes his life path from a supplier for military needs, a customs tenant, a Sarajevo city councilor, to a convict for insulting majesty. Based on the available historical materials, the existence of changes in the relationship between the then administration and society towards Javer Effendi Baruch after 1887 is examined.

The Jewish cultural tradition, which within the framework of the Bosnian habitus went through stages - from assimilation, concretization, activation, and even fusion - represents a paradigm of intracultural processes in the complex Bosnian society. These processes take place through various interactions, which have not been bypassed by local literature, and are representative of one part of the literary oeuvre of Isak Samokovlija. Based on the theoretical starting points of intercultural interpretation and psychoanalysis, the work questions Samokovlija's short stories in which the characters act through the suppressed own versus the foreign. This is especially expressed in the stories “Od proljeća do proljeća” (From Spring to Spring) and “Plava Jevrejka” (The Blue Jewess).

This paper contains an analysis of the selected scenes from the play Krokodil Lacoste / Silvertown by Zlatko Topčić. The play won the “Alija Isaković” award in 2010, while the Cultural Association of Bosniaks Preporod published its dual Bosnian and English edition in 2016. The segments are analyzed parallelly in Bosnian and English for the purpose of observing the level of functional equivalence in the target text. The analysis entails extralinguistic and linguistic categories in accordance with the model developed by Hatim and Mason (1990) and later expanded by Zhang et al. (2015). The extralinguistic category includes, among others, the culture-translation relationship, and the linguistic category entails three dimensions: communicative, pragmatic, and semiotic. The analysis in this case includes the communicative and semiotic components.

Family communication with all its specificities has a significant impact on the functioning of its members. This means that the effects of family communication are woven into all segments of the life and work of the persons who make up the family community. Emphasizing the importance of family education, the aim of our research was to use empirical non-experimental research to examine the connection between the types of family communication and the success of students in mathematics in the fifth grade. 161 fifth-grade students from two Banja Luka schools and the same number of parents participated in the research. Statistical significance was determined between the final grade in mathematics and violent and nonviolent communication and between autocratic and democratic communication and the final grade in mathematics, as well as between violent and nonviolent communication and success on the knowledge test and school achievement in mathematics.

Petar Mandić is one of the most outstanding educators of the 20th century, not only in Bosnia and Herzegovina but also further. In the focus of Mandić's pedagogical work were many questions and answers related to improving school work and teaching. The theoretical study aimed to analyze and present the value of Petar Mandić's pedagogical and didactic ideas for improving educational work in school and the teaching process. Petar Mandić's scientific research covered various fields of pedagogy, psychology, and other related sciences. Mandić's pedagogical ideas shed light on family pedagogy, the history of pedagogy, methods of educational work, preschool pedagogy, home pedagogy, comparative pedagogy, pedagogical psychology, andragogy, teaching methods, pedagogical methodology, and other scientific disciplines. Contemporary didacticians find Petar Mandić's ideas theoretically and methodologically grounded, thematically and structurally articulate, and characterize them as a courageous scientific endeavor accompanied by a critical and creative attitude towards theoretical sources and technical and technological novelties in teaching. The value of Petar Mandić's didactic ideas refers to the orientation towards new, modern and productive solutions (team teaching, dual progress plan, school without classes, flexible class schedule, micro-teaching, individually planned instruction), instructions on the application of innovations (use of computers and educational television in teaching process) and knowledge about the electronic classroom and individualized instruction.

The literary opus of the Bosnian Franciscans is interesting in many ways from the imagological point of view: both concerning self-perceptions and hetero-perceptions, which were constructed based on the importance of religion as an element of community identity. Analyzing the imagotype potential of religious and ethnic divisions, the paper reconstructs the controversies between Christianity and Judaism, as well as linguistic elements, folk customs, and contemporary reality. At the source of the Bosnian Franciscan literature, at the beginning of the 17th century, we find Divković, who, as is often the case in pre-modern culture, relates the religious Other to the ethnic Other. This tradition is continued by the 19th century’s Franciscan chroniclers (Lastrić, Benić, and Bogdanović), while Martić, Jukić, and Knežević, who stepped into the era of the rebirth of Croatian Illyrianism, we can trace various normative implications of the relationship between political, ethnic, racial and religious identity. Since the Bosnian Franciscans of that time, we remember the ecclesiastical and intellectual elite among the Catholic population in Bosnia, the imagotypical statements about Jews in their works reflect both the Christian heritage through history and the Eurocentric view of the Others. Therefore, reconstructing the Bosnian Franciscans’ perceptions and ideas about the Other and the Different is, at the same time, reconstructing the genesis of the narrative about the Other, i.e., social and religious stereotypes and prejudices, as well as the continuity of talking about oneself by talking about the Different.

The paper compares two graphic biographies with traditional biographies of the same authors – renowned Slovenian writers Alma Karlin and Ivan Cankar. It compares the manner in which graphical and text-only biographies present the characters, the character’s emotions and expressions, which life events they emphasize, and how they address the criterion of objectivity. The results suggest that the biographies in the two Slovenian graphics are less objective than textual biographies due to the pictorial material. Textual biographies present more information about the subject, while graphic biographies focus more on individual events, statements, and emotions, and present them more appealingly.

The paper questions the construction of identity in the novels of Slovenian-Bosnian authoress Valerija Skrinjar-Tvrz: Na svojoj, na plemenitoj, Jutro u Bosni and Bosna i Soča, which were combined and published as a trilogy this year. Integrating the period of medieval Bosnia, the First World War, and the war in Bosnia and Herzegovina from 1992-1995 into one whole, the trilogy achieves multiple coding. Although distant in time, driven by different motivations, and intersected by different ideologies, wars shape the lives of the heroes of this trilogy. In this unique poetic entity, the authoress managed to show the complexity of common life through individual destinies and “small stories” and to deconstruct the conception that history is made up of “big stories”. The identities of individuals in the novels represent the identities of communities whose borders are porous and threaten to destroy the established systems, while individual unfortunate destinies are a mirror of collective traumas from the Middle Ages to modern times. The Trilogy covers almost the entire Bosnian history, trying to include identity constructions and their associated identification features, which the authoress considers representative of contemporary identity re/configurations.

The basic goal of this research was to examine which aspects of work motivation and perfectionism predict workaholism, in order to identify potential risk factors. Workaholism is defined as an internal need to work excessively that damages our health and psychosocial well-being, leading to long-term exhaustion and work inefficacy. Intrinsic motivation stems from the feeling of satisfaction inherent in doing work-related tasks and using our professional competencies, whereas extrinsic motivation stems from external rewards, a satisfaction of our other needs through work. The basis of neurotic perfectionism lies in the constant discrepancy between the goals person has set and what is achieved, which can lead to chronic dissatisfaction. The following instruments were used: The almost Perfect Scale, the Work extrinsic and intrinsic motivation scale, and Bergen Work Addiction Scale. The sample consisted of 109 participants, workers from the Republika Srpska area, aged 21 to 55. Most of the sample consisted of female participants (75.24%). The results of Kolmogorov-Smirnoff tests show that participants' scores on all examined variables are distributed normally. The fact that workaholism is moderately present in our sample is opposite from original expectations and highlights the need to further examine the prevalence of this phenomenon in the general working population. The predictive model as a whole is statistically significant (F(5,103)=5.01,p<0.00) and predicts 16% of workaholism variance. However, only perfectionism component discrepancy was a significant and positive predictor of workaholism, but not intrinsic or extrinsic work motivation. The results suggest that workaholism can originate from the efforts of perfectionistic persons to overcome their perceived failures in achieving their unrealistically high goals. It is possible that, through time, obsessive work becomes a means to avoid dealing with negative emotions towards themselves, and also as a way to excuse themselves from real or irrational failures (“I did not achieve my goal, but I worked really hard and I will keep trying”). Of course, in the long run, excessive perfectionism combined with workaholism leads to utter exhaustion and further deterioration of work performance. In order to cope with the constant rise of negative feelings a person tries to work even harder and to achieve increasingly unrealistic goals, leading to a downward spiral of self-destruction. The implications of this research are that in order to treat workaholism it may be necessary to question the structure of unattainable goals that a person sets and the underlying feelings of inadequacy, self-doubt, and self-loathing that may play an important role in perpetuating maladaptive behavior of a typical workaholic. Workaholism must be studied as a part of wider personality structure and dynamic, as it serves an important (and maladaptive) role in defense against unwanted feelings and ideas of lesser worth, failure, etc.

The paper presents three literary images of the coexistence of Jews and Muslims in Ottoman Bosnia. The pictures chronologically represent a hodogram of coexistence from the 16th to the beginning of the 20th century. The first picture is Sušić's short story Šta učini Don Daniel Rodriga, in which the author first shows the early relationship between Bosnian Muslims and Jews in trade between the Ottoman Empire and the Venetian Republic, and then the social controversies that accompanied that process. The second picture is based on Bašeski's Ljetopis and presents a picture of coexistence in the daily life of Sarajevo in the 18th century, where it does not only include the beautiful and positive, but also the negative representations. However, this picture shows the dynamic connections between Muslims and Jews at the national level, but also the differences and tensions conditioned by the social, religious, and political context. The third picture represents the positive relationship between Muslims and Jews in the example of literary representations of Sarajevo’s Purim. Here we analyze the different interpretations of this event, as well as how much they, regardless of evident contradictions, together influenced the shaping of the discourse about this holiday of Sarajevo’s Jews.

In contrast to the 12th and 13th centuries, the sources for the study of the Kotor notary in the 14thand 15thcenturies are significantly more numerous and diverse. In the first place, there are office notarial writings that have been preserved from the period 1326-1337, then the second half of the last decade of the 14th century, and, almost continuously, from the end of the second decade of the 15th century. Apart from them, individual documents created in the Kotor office during the 14th century have been preserved, which represent a very valuable source for studying the time when certain notaries worked in Kotor. An extremely important source for the study of this issue is the Grbalj cadaster which contains the notes of notaries and chancellors who drew up documents on the ownership of land holdings in Grbalj. Mentions of some Kotor notaries and the time of their activity can be found in the Dubrovnik archives of the 13th-15th centuries. A special type of source about Kotor notaries of the 14thand 15thcenturies contains their lists. One such can be found in the Zagreb copy of the Kotor Statute and contains a list of notaries from 1380 to 1487. The second one is the list of notaries and chancellors located in the National University Library in Zagreb. It is a particularly valuable source for the chronology of Kotor notaries from the second half of the 14th century, providing information about them until 1705. It brings the names of some hitherto little-known Kotor notaries from the beginning of the 15th century.

For the process of upbringing to culminate in the formation of intellectually and morally complete and independent people, the question has always arisen as to what it is that makes it effective. The main intention of this paper is to present and analyze fundamental educational guidelines devised and posited by famous philosophers of antiquity –Socrates, Plato, and Aristotle who focused on achieving personal autonomy, without neglecting the fundamental characteristics of socially acceptable frameworks of morality. The paper will present the development of fundamental educational ideas in antiquity, with special emphasis on building the authentic individual and the citizen as one of the main instruments of upbringing both in the past and today.

Mental health, along with physical and social well-being, constitutes the general health of an individual, and it is considered that there is no health without mental health. According to the dual model of mental health, the mental state of an individual does not depend solely on the presence of a diagnosis of mental illness, but also on the subjective feeling of well-being. This means that a person with a mental disorder or illness can have good mental health and vice versa. New approaches in the protection of mental health and the treatment of people with mental illnesses are based on the principles of empowerment, recovery, social inclusion, human rights, multidisciplinarity and multisectoral cooperation. The aim of this paper is to present the concept of recovery of people with mental health problems, starting from a holistic understanding of mental health. Recovery is understood as a process that involves an individual who has hope and is aimed at overcoming psychological suffering, but also experts who shape and conduct their professional procedures with the aim of creating conditions for increasing the well-being and productivity of the individual. Also, the approach to recovery is incorporated into the development and organization of modern Community mental health care services. Under this aspect, the paper will present the development of psychiatric care and Community mental health services on the example of Centers for mental health in Bosnia and Herzegovina. Despite the knowledge and clear documents that focus on mental health care and support services for everyone in the community, there are significant challenges in implementing that type of mental health care system.

The realization of inclusive education at the preschool age is an important effort within the school system of a country. It has been established that inclusive education has a stimulating effect on children with disabilities, as well as on typically developing children. Because of this, it is necessary to start with its realization at the preschool age. The paper presents the results of empirical research conducted on a sample of 763 parents of children attending preschool institutions in the territory of eastern and southeastern Serbia, which were collected using an assessment scale specially constructed for this research. Bearing in mind the importance of the formation of positive attitudes of parents as key actors in the upbringing of typically developing children, who should represent to their children a model of adequate behavior towards persons with developmental disabilities, the research aims to examine the attitudes of parents about inclusion in the system of state preschool institutions. It was established that the majority of parents recognize the most significant advantages of inclusion and the prerequisite for achieving inclusion in the context of institutional preschool education. When it comes to obstacles to achieving inclusive education, it was found that parents recognize them to a lesser extent. Also, it was established that there are statistically significant differences in parents' responses to certain items concerning the variables of gender, age, and level of education. The findings of this research can represent a good starting point for improving existing institutional practice in the context of inclusive education.

The correlation between a person and a character has always attracted the attention of researchers in both oral and written literature. The main difference is that researchers of oral epics always undertook detailed searches for the historical figure based on which the epic hero was created, while the latter more often recognized the writer himself and his private life within his artistic fiction. Alija Bojičić represents one of the most important heroes of Bosniak oral epics, whose action will be in the border area of Bosnia and Dalmatia, and the poems in which he appears are often classified in the uskok/hajduk epic cycles. History has offered at least three historical figures who could have served the epic singer to create this character. It can certainly be said that the oldest historical ancestor had the greatest influence on the features and characteristics of this epic hero. So far, research into the relationship between personality and character in Bosniak oral epics has focused on Alija Đerzelez and Mujo Hrnjica, while Alija Bojičić remained on the sidelines.

While the university of today, as a significant institution whose appearance is associated with the Middle Ages, can be considered in the context of the emergence of classical university education, the modern age is facing this institution with new requirements and expectations. This paper aims to consider the changes in the concept of the university, which are accompanied by classical ideals (enlightenment) to all the major influences of the economy and the requirements for the development of innovation and entrepreneurship. The paper aims to concretize the following tasks: to analyze the classical model of the university and its philosophy of education, to analyze the model of higher education that is primarily based on economic criteria, and to consider the need for actualization and development of the third mission. It is concluded that in modern circumstances, the university is facing the challenge of finding a balance between preserving institutional autonomy, independent social criticism, and academic freedom of professors and students, on the one hand, and connecting with the world of work to become a relevant factor in economic development. Within this framework, discussions on the further direction of the development of higher education should be directed at examining the possibilities for the encouragement of humanistic values, for higher education institutions act as a generator of overall social development.

The development of pedagogical science by the requirements of modern education has raised the question of the quality of professional work of a school pedagogue based on his characteristics and features. The paper discusses the problem of possessing the important qualities of a school pedagogue for educational work in school. The theoretical analysis describes the qualities of a modern pedagogue in the form of personal and professional characteristics. This research aims to examine the attitudes of teachers about the possession of important characteristics of pedagogues for school work and to point out their importance for the development of pedagogical practice. A descriptive research method with a scaling technique was used in the research. The paper presents a survey conducted in the school year 2020/2021 on a sample of 102 primary and secondary school teachers in Southern Serbia. The results of the research show that the factor analysis from the Likert-type assessment scale constructed for the needs of this research highlights four factors that define the most important characteristics of a school pedagogue: flexibility, organization and professionalism, teamwork, cooperation, and innovation. The research provided encouraging data that confirm the flexibility, organization, and professionalism of pedagogues. Professional development and encouragement of the research role of the school pedagogue were identified as opportunities for strengthening cooperative relations, teamwork, and innovation of the school pedagogue to improve the educational practice in the school. The research confirmed a statistically significant difference in the attitudes of the respondents with only one factor that brought together items related to teamwork. The differences are significant in the variable school type, p <0.05.

The relationship between organizational climate and employee motivation is one of the fundamental questions in the field of work performance research. Previous research has shown that a more favorable social, emotional and work context contributes to greater employee engagement and higher productivity. The subject of this research was the relationship between the teachers’ perception of school climate and their work motivation. This paper presents the results obtained from a sample of 467 teachers from 25 elementary schools in the wider city area of Tuzla. The School Level Environment Questionnaire (SLEQ) and the Work Tasks Motivation Scale for Teachers (WTMST) were used to collect data. The obtained results suggest that the school climate, as perceived by teachers, has predictor value in relation to their motivation. In terms of predictor value for identified regulation, motivation, and internal motivation, a collaboration between teachers and relationships with students stands out. Nevertheless, the small amount of explained variance is an indicator that teacher motivation is in its entirety mostly determined by the sum of actions of other factors. In this way, however, a small part of the total variance of motivation is explained, which suggests that motivation is mostly determined by the sum of the actions of other factors.

The study of musical preferences, enjoyment of music and students’ involvement in teaching, as a current topic worthy of attention, deserves a multidisciplinary approach. Therefore, the aim of this research is to determine the predictive power of music enjoyment and musical preferences on students’ cognitive, emotional and social involvement in music teaching, as well as on their overall involvement in music teaching, which includes all three mentioned aspects. The sample included 183 teacher studies students from four university centers in Bosnia and Herzegovina. Research findings confirm that enjoyment of music, based on internal motivation, is a predictor of greater involvement (cognitive, emotional and social) of students in music lessons. Musical preferences are statistically significant as a model, but they do not make a statistically significant partial contribution to the prediction of cognitive, emotional and social involvement of students in music classes. It is clear that the research findings open up the „old-new” issues of the quality of music in society, detours or some „new avant-garde”. The recommendations brought by this research are reflected in the greater activation of the emotional dimension of university music teaching, which must be closely related to the cognitive and social aspects of music. The key to success, the experience of the lecturer, and thus the atmosphere in lessons, is primary for the quality of students’ involvement in the teaching process. We need high-quality, creative and at the same time fun and emotionally rich music teaching in order to create a path of faith into stimulating and healthy development of the students’ versatile personalities with a developed attitude towards music preference.

Research aimed at the etiology of creativity suggests that its development is contributed by both individual and contextual factors. In analyzing contextual factors, more attention is paid to the institutional environment concerning the family. Starting from the above, the goal of this work is to explicate the development of creativity by taking parenting and the early family environment as a conceptual framework. Operationalizing family context through two dimensions – structural (socioeconomic status, family size, birth order) and process (integration, parenting style, parenting dimensions), sought to explore their connection to the development of creativity in early childhood. A special focus was on the process dimension, through the relationship between parenting – as what parents do along with children and creative development in early childhood. In doing so, etiological factors are taken into account that enable and/or inhibit the development of creative potential.

The term represents an integral element of each subject and forms the basis for the development of knowledge and mastery of knowledge acquired through the development of science. The school and the course book should enable students to adopt a system of scientific concepts from a certain field. This work deals with the analysis of the concepts of nature in the coursebooks of Nature and Society for the fourth grade of primary school, published by the publishers: Klett, New logos, and Bigz schooling. The research provides answers to the following questions: Are the concepts of nature explicitly represented in coursebooks? Do complete and incomplete logical definitions of the concepts of nature dominate in the coursebooks of Nature and Society? Is there a dominance of complete and incomplete logical definitions of different publishers and by the dominance of complete and incomplete logical definitions of the concepts of nature? Based on the results of research on the definitions of the concepts of nature in the coursebooks of Nature and Society for the fourth grade, it can be concluded that the coursebooks of Klett, New logos, and Bigz schooling have a very large number of undefined concepts of nature, greater than the number of definitions. Most textbooks about nature are in the textbook published by Klett (198 terms), followed by the textbook published by New Logos (174 terms), while the least notions about nature are found in the textbook published by Bigz schooling (142 terms). The most accurate definitions are in the textbook published by Klett (86 definitions), followed by the textbook published by New Logos (83 definitions), while the least definitions of nature are found in the textbook Bigz schooling (59 definitions). All of this points to the need for detailed changes to the analyzed nature and society textbooks from the publishing houses Klett, New logos, and Bigz schooling. This problem will certainly be the subject of academic discussion and some future research.

In our work, we will use the term alcohol addiction due to less stigmatization of people who consume alcohol. Alcohol addiction as a medical-social phenomenon is present in a large number of the population. The goal of the work is to gain insight into the importance of Clubs of alcoholics in treatment (CATs) and the continuous maintenance of change in a person undergoing alcoholism treatment. The subject of the research was to determine the contribution of CATs, in the context of readiness for change in the recovery process of persons treated for alcoholism. The work is based on secondary analysis, which includes the collection and analysis of relevant professional and scientific selected literature from this field. For this work, when collecting secondary data, various books, scientific and professional works, and various databases were used. Willingness to continuously maintain change in the treatment of alcohol addiction is applied in different conditions, both inpatient and outpatient, applying different treatment methods, among which Clubs of alcoholics in treatment stand out, which have as their ultimate goal the treatment of a person who is under the influence of alcohol. The personal change of the CATs user takes place procedurally through an increase in the CATs user's awareness of the existence of the disease of alcohol addiction, a dramatic relief concerning the problem and solution to the problem of alcoholism, through evaluating the self-image and a greater degree of self-acceptance, changing the evaluation of the environment with which the user is in daily contact. Self-liberation occurs through direct interventions carried out in CATs, counter-conditioning learning of alternative forms of behavior to the problematic behavior of excessive alcohol use, and stimulus control interventions that provoke and encourage the user of CATs to reconstruct their environment. Using five-year abstinence and recovery from the disease of alcohol dependence as the primary outcome measure of treatment can lead to an improvement in the overall quality of life of the abstainer.

Mathnawi, one of the most important works of Mevlana, has attracted great attention from both the Mevlevi circles, other sects shaped by mysticism, and social layers with different intellectual structures in the society, since the date it was written. The tradition of advice has an important place in Mathnawi, where Mevlana tries to guide the individual and society to the right path based on religious arguments. Mathnawi has been translated and annotated many times since most of its couplets are covered with symbols, have a closed expression, and are written in Persian. Muinîddîn b. Mustafa tradition of annotating Mathnawi in Turkish, which started with the Mesnevî-iMurâdiyye written by himself in the 15th century, continued until the 21st century. The fact that Mathnawi has a deep layer of meaning, especially originating from Sufism, prevented it from being easily understood by the public. For this reason, some well-educated intellectuals of the period, assuming the identity of commentary, wrote Mathnawi commentaries to make Mathnawi more understandable in society. Of course, commentators have benefited from many sources for these activities due to the difficulty of the existing text. The first reference sources of commentators who grew up in a cultural world shaped by Islamic values and the perception of the mystical world were, of course, religious sources. Dictionary and grammar books, Mathnawi commentaries made by other authors, non-religious poems, history, biography, etc. different sources written in many fields enriched the commentator's world of interpretation and thus offered him a broader perspective.

The traditional model of a university is gradually being metamorphosed into a corporate model that brings forth certain problems, alongside numerous solutions. In such circumstances, establishing and maintaining a culture of trust is the foundation of constructing a positive psychological contract between the organization and its employees. In such circumstances, establishing and maintaining the culture of trust in the academy’s commitment to the traditionally defined mission of building and disseminating knowledge aimed at improving, training, and educating the most important potential of the society – people are the foundation of constructing a positive psychological contract between teachers and higher education institutions. The psychological contract represents mutual expectations that the parties in this relationship do not have to be fully aware of, but which, nevertheless, guide their mutual behavior. It is an implicit agreement between the academic staff and the higher education institution specifying what each party in this relationship expects to offer but also receives in return. Since research on psychological contracts in the academic work environment is very rare, and the concept itself is relatively new and unexplored in the Bosnian context in general, this paper first sought to determine which factors may be related to the violation of psychological contracts in the academic context. The results suggest that a lower organizational performance of the higher education organization, lower academic staff member performance, as well as a lower level of formalization of the process of organizational socialization of newly-hired academic staff, lead to a higher perceived psychological contract breach. Findings also suggest that the implicit communication of the mutual expectations between the faculty/academy and the academic staff leads to a greater perceived psychological contract breach. The paper offers certain recommendations to higher education institutions for the establishment and preservation of a positive psychological contract in the academic context and the prevention of avoidable psychological contract breaches.
