The article examines the role of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in the economic development of Ukraine, as it enters the world arena through its export potential. The author accentuates the diverse methods, ways and areas of economic policy for improving the export performance of SMEs. In particular, attention is centered on the support of SMEs by governments, international organizations and associations of entrepreneurs-exporters. In the opinion of the author, it is imperative to analyze the global experience in improving and stimulating SME exports not only in the economically developed countries, but also in those that are at such a political and socioeconomic stage of development as Ukraine is today. The author lists the policy areas for improving SME exports and their essence and outlines the prospects for their further development.

Examining Ukraine’s trade and economic cooperation with the Russian Federation (RF), as they integrate their economies into the world economy, the author of this article focuses on the integrative priorities of both countries: cooperation within the framework of CIS, BSEC. SES, EU, WTO and other organizations. Moreover, the author considers the possibility of converging the actions of Ukraine and Russia within the context of their accession to the WTO or coordinating with Russia the accession of Ukraine to the WTO. In analyzing the integrative priorities of Ukraine and Russia, the author offers his scenarios for the development of Ukrainian-Russian relations.

The purpose of this article is to reveal the impact of the protection of intellectual property rights (IPR) on the technological growth of developing countries within the context of their integration into the multilateral trade system. The author generalizes the theoretical studies in IPR protection for open and closed economies, traces the consequences of enforcing IPR protection on the economic growth and diffusion of technologies in the world, analyzes the multilateral regulations of the WTO in trade-related aspects of intellectual property rights, and assesses the impact of the introduction of this system on developing countries. The article explores the prospects for developing the multilateral system of IPR protection to ensure a balance between countries with different levels of development, and outlines the internal policy instruments of IPR that would comply with the interests of technological growth in the developing countries. These findings would benefit the formulation of a balanced policy of IPR protection related to Ukraine’s trade and other policies to invigorate technological development within the context of its integration into the world trade system.

The article offers a systematic review of tools and mechanisms utilised by developed countries (United States, Japan, EU) to pursue their innovation policies, and classifies methods which support innovation and ways that help to strengthen the innovation capacity. It describes the evolution of research and development (R&D) policy in other countries. The article examines arguments in support of a trend in the innovation policy which promotes the development of national innovation systems. It reviews the substance and components of the national innovation system. It also explores the trends of R&D cooperation. The article outlines the variety of domestic tools which regulate innovation in EU countries (framework programs, the European Research Area Initiative).

In this paper, the author proves the urgency and importance of studying transnational corporations when global markets are shaped by a new quality of competition and regulation. The author frames the concept of an effective business model of development of transnational corporations that makes it possible to optimize the constantly growing cash flows in their dynamically evolutive structures. She confirms the hypothesis of the twenty-first century changes in the motivational reasons of transnational accumulation of capital with the consequences geared to modern priorities of development (economic democratization, socialization, and ecologization). She shows that when, apart from the traditional approach (predominantly marketing-based), the financial approach is applied, which takes into account the cyclical nature of the process of capital turnover, the architecture of the business models in their key components are substantially adjusted: the internal potential of self-development must include a system of resources provision, efficient capital management and forms of business organization, while allowance for the changes in the external environment requires constant upgrading of the business model with modifications, scenarios which illustrate graphically the methods proposed by the author from the prognostic view.
