The cognitive approach of modern linguistics reviews Aristotle’s approach to the formation of categories. The researches of E. Rosh, K. Goldstein, M. Scheerer, G. Lakoff allow us to distinguish between two types of categories: abstract and concrete. Concrete categories can be called concepts from the point of view of modern Linguistics. The goal of the article is to specify that ekphrasis as an image of real piece of art (painting or icon) becomes the basis of symbolic language of narration in lyric epic works of poets of Russian Symbolism Vyacheslav Ivanov and Alexander Blok. The focus is made on influence of English Pre-Raphaelites as it transforms the plot and visual concept of the Annuntiation in the poems Night Violet by Alexander Blok and Mladenchestvo Vyacheslav Ivanov.
