Today higher educational establishment should create conditions to train and educate a competitive professional and spiritual and cultural student’s personality. The fact that a certain part of students uses the Internet allows us to assume that, for example, such social network as «VKontakte» can hypothetically be considered to be a virtual part of educational space, which in its turn is a part of the educational system of the institution.
The author tries to make an attempt to reveal the educational potential of the Internet network as a virtual part of educational space of higher technical educational establishment and to characterize Internet-portrait of the modern student in the social network «VKontakte».
The success of the practical application of educational means through social networks on the Internet depends on the deep and qualitative students’ monitoring, their inner world, the range of interests, the ideological position and so on. In the background of the students’ postmodern layer there is a motivated part of students. For them education is a real value and they normally have a desire to be a spiritual and cultural personality and to look for their own way of self-development and self-realization.
The Internet is used by people of different categories and preferences. In terms of cyber socialization a person, who is a user of this or that social network, gets a unique opportunity not just to claim his/her social status «to everybody», to show not only his/her individuality and uniqueness, but also his/her non-conformism or, the other way round, to become more conformal organizing and carrying out a part of his/her own life in a cyberspace.
The Internet-portrait of a modern student depicts a person with quite a strong life’s philosophy who values family as the most important thing in life and who values kindness and honesty in people, but all the same it is still a conformist personality inspired in life by social networks which proves some definite closeness and moderation. And a secular-humanistic worldview serves as a background in which self-development and self-realization are lost among the Internet entertainments.
Getting into the network, a person moves through at least five stages of communication with the virtual world. Most psychologists agreed that it is not the Internet which makes a person dependent, but a person inclined to addiction chooses its object which can be the Internet. Our task is to use the informational power of the Internet, the spiritual and cultural richness of this information and to use educational means correctly in terms of methodology. The results of the task implementation have confirmed that the Internet networks can be considered a virtual part of educational space of higher technical educational establishment.
