RESUMO: A celebração dos 50 anos da Conferência de Medellín (1968) coincide com os 5 anos de ministério pastoral do papa Francisco (2013). Essa coincidência cronológica é uma ocasião privilegiada para explicitar e destacar a coincidência teológico-pastoral entre ambos. Ela ajuda a compreender melhor tanto o processo de renovação eclesial desencadeado por Francisco, quanto a atualidade do dinamismo eclesial desencadeado por Medellín. O texto começa destacando a importância de Medellín e de Francisco na Igreja e na sociedade. Explicita a perspectiva teológico­-pastoral fundamental de ambos. E indica, a partir dessa perspectiva, alguns dos principais desafios com os quais a Igreja é confrontada hoje em sua missão evan­gelizadora: desafios que dizem a respeito à compreensão e configuração da Igreja e sua missão (eclesiologia) e aos apelos e exigências que brotam de nossa situação histórica atual (sinais dos tempos). ABSTRACT: The 50 years celebration of the Conference of Medellin (1968) coin­cides with the 5 years of Pope Francis’ pastoral ministry (2013). This chronological coincidence is a prime occasion to clarify and emphasize the theological-pastoral coincidence between both. It helps to understand better the process of ecclesial renewal triggered by Francis and the current relevance of the ecclesial dynamism, unleashed by Medellin. First, the text highlights the importance of Medellin and of Francis in the Church and in society. It then explains the fundamental theological/pastoral perspective of both. And, from that perspective, it addresses some of the major challenges the Church is faced with today in her mission of evangelization: challenges regarding the understanding and setup of the Church and her mission (Ecclesiology), and the appeals and demands that spring from our present historical situation (signs of the times).

ABSTRACT: This article explores the way in which the event of Medellín as well as the document have played a significant part in the unfolding of pastoral and social ministries with and for Hispanic/Latinos in the United States over the past fifty years. The reception in the United States of Medellín in the wider context of the follow-up to the Second Vatican Council has been wide and deep in terms of several developments outlined here. Faith-based social ministries in Hispanic/Latino communities in the form of grass root community organizations in the tradition of Saul Alinsky found inspiration in Medellin’s option for the poor and pastoral de conjunto. Many other examples of Medellín’s impact are placed in the wider historical context of the past fifty years, the half century in which Hispanics/Latinos emerged as the majority of U.S. Catholics under the age of 35. RESUMO: Este artigo investiga a forma pela qual tanto o evento como o documento de Medellín tiveram papel significativo na evolução dos ministérios pastorais e sociais da população de origem latino-americana dos Estados Unidos nos últimos cinquenta anos. A recepção de Medellín nos Estados Unidos, dentro do contexto mais amplo que se seguiu ao Concílio Vaticano II, foi ampla e profunda, e é aqui delineada em seus muitos desdobramentos. Naquelas comunidades de origem latino-americana, na forma de organizações comunitárias de base conforme a tra­dição de Saul Alinsky, os ministérios sociais de cunho confessional foram influen­ciados pela opção pelos pobres e pela pastoral de conjunto lançadas por Medellín. Vários outros exemplos do impacto causado por Medellín são aqui situados no seu contexto histórico mais amplo da última metade de século, período no qual a população de origem latino-americana despontou como majoritária entre todos os católicos norte-americanos na faixa etária até 35 anos.

RESUMO: O mandamento do amor ao próximo constitui o âmago das Obras do Amor de Kierkegaard. Nesta obra, o amor cristão é definido em contraposição ao amor natural, nomeadamente ao amor erótico e à amizade. Em virtude da sua natureza passional, o amor natural é uma forma de amor de si mesmo e não comporta exigência ética. No amor cristão, pelo contrário, o outro é amado como próximo, não em resultado de predileção, mas porque Deus ordena esse amor. Não obstante as dissemelhanças entre o amor natural e o amor cristão, não existe relação antitética entre estas duas formas de amor. Do ponto de vista cristão, o que é problemático no amor natural é a exclusividade egoísta, que o mandamento do amor ao próximo erradica ao estabelecer a equidade no amor. A proeminência dada ao mandamento do amor será considerada à luz da concomitante ênfase de Kierkegaard em esforço e dom, obras e graça, lei e amor. A interpretação Kierke­gaardiana da doutrina do amor tem sido frequentemente criticada por descurar a dimensão social da ética cristã e espiritualizar o amor ao próximo. Embora seja inegável a existência de um certo desapreço por uma ética do amor orientada para transformações sociais, tal não implica menosprezo pela importância de promover o bem-estar social e material da pessoa humana. Kierkegaard visa antes mostrar a diferença qualitativa que existe entre a prática do amor cristão e a expressão política e social de generosidade organizada. ABSTRACT: The command of loving one’s neighbor is at the core of Kiekegaard’s Works of Love. In this book, Christian love is defined in opposition to natural love, namely erotic love and friendship. Due to its passionate nature, natural love is aform of self-love and contains no ethical demand. In Christian love, on the con­trary, the other is loved as one’s neighbor, not because of preference, but because God commands that love. Notwithstanding the dissimilarities between natural love and Christian love, these two forms of love are not antithetically related. From a Christian point of view, what is problematic in natural love is its egotistic exclusivity, which love for the neighbor eliminates by establishing equality in loving. The prominence given to the command of love will be considered in light of Kierkegaard’s simultaneous emphasis on effort and gift, works and grace, law and love. The Kierkegaardian interpretation of the doctrine of love has often been criticized for neglecting the social dimension of Christian ethics. While a certain disregard for an ethic of love directed towards social change is undeniably pres­ent, this does not imply disdain for the importance of promoting the social and material well-being of the human person. Kierkegaard’s concern is, rather, to show that a qualitative difference exists between the practice of Christian love and the political and social expression of organized generosity.

RESUMO: Estas reflexões têm como objetivo principal explorar as semelhanças e diferenças que existem entre a Reforma de Lutero e a tradição católica medieval da qual ela deriva. Com isto, farei também ressaltar o paradoxo do entre-dois que caracteriza este movimento e, mais especificamente, a concepção teológica do Reformador. Não se trata, portanto, de uma pura e simples ruptura com o universo medieval; não se trata tampouco de uma mera continuidade com re­lação à teologia que se desenvolvera ao longo da Escolástica latina. Trata-se, ao invés, do paradoxo de uma exclusão interna, porquanto o que realmente ocorreu foi uma reinterpretação, uma reelaboração e um deslocamento de ênfase a partir de um questionamento teológico fundamental que marcou o pensamento do Re­formador. Em outros termos, Lutero se exclui do universo simbólico medieval, mas a partir de dentro. ABSTRACT: These reflections aim at exploring the similarities and differences between Luther’s Reformation and the Catholic medieval tradition from which it derives. In doing so, I intend to underline the in between paradox that characterizes this movement and, more specifically, Luther’s theological conception. Therefore, it is not a question of a pure and simple rupture with the medieval universe; it is not either a question of mere continuity with the theology developed throughout Latin scholasticism. It is rather a question of paradox, the paradox of an internal exclusion. What really occurred was a reinterpretation, a new elaboration and a shift of emphasis from the fundamental theological questioning that had marked the Reformer’s thought. In short, Luther excluded himself from the symbolic me­dieval universe, but from inside.
