Automatized transport by throwing and catching offers a number of advantages over traditional transportation techniques, especially in terms of reconfiguration time and flexibility in general. State of the art approaches dealing with this topic focus on catching of the object without consideration of the impact forces on the object. Here a strategy for minimizing the forces during catching and the related simulation results are presented.

Many Embedded Systems are indeed Software Based Control Systems, that is control systems whose controller consists of control software running on a microcontroller device. This motivates investigation on Formal Model Based Design approaches for automatic synthesis of embedded systems control software. This paper addresses control software synthesis for discrete time nonlinear hybrid systems. We present a methodology to over approximate the dynamics of a discrete time nonlinear hybrid system H by means of a discrete time linear hybrid system L_H, in such a way that controllers for L_H are guaranteed to be controllers for H. We present experimental results on control software synthesis for the inverted pendulum, a challenging and meaningful control problem.

In this paper we consider the Split Delivery Vehicle Routing Problem, which has a wide practical application. The SDVRP is NP-hard problem. We propose a population based ant colony optimization algorithm for solving the SDVRP. Computational experiments for developed algorithm are reported.

We consider the N-dimensional orthogonal packing feasibility problem (OPP-N). Given a set of N-dimensional rectangular items, OOP-N is to decide whether all items can be orthogonally packed into the given rectangular container. We construct a method which finds equivalent packing for given orthogonal packing under certain criterion.

Inexact Restoration is a well-known technique for dealing with constrained nonlinear programs. Roughly speaking, each step of an Inexact Restoration algorithm can be divided into two basic parts. One is the restoration phase, where the feasibility of iterates is improved. This means that feasibility is treated here independently since it is often more important than optimality. Moreover, particular structures may be exploited better in this way. The second part of an Inexact Restoration step is an optimization phase in which a linearly constrained quadratic program has to be solved. An appropriate combination of both phases yields, under reasonable conditions, globally convergent algorithms.

Beamforming summarizes techniques to adapt the radiation pattern of an antenna array. If each element of such an array can be adjusted according to a finite set of control parameters only then adapting the radiation pattern is called discrete beamforming and, depending on an appropriate goal, leads to a difficult discrete or mixed-integer optimization problem. In this talk we will present basic beamforming approaches and concentrate on discrete receive beamforming.

We consider the 2D strip packing problem (SPP-2). Given a set of rectangular items, SPP-2 is to find a packing of all items occupying the minimal height of the given semi-infinite strip. SPP-2 is considered without items rotation.
