Based on the analysis periods, the social base and ideology reveals nonlinearity progress Ukrainian national movement in the late 18th – early 20th century shows the influence of this factor on the modern Ukrainian nation-building process.
This article is devoted to analysis of information capabilities of Katerynoslav juridical instances' documents of the last quarter of the 18th century, which are stored in the State Archives of Dnipropetrovsk region. Particular attention is paid to local history materials.

The author of the article founded and heads during 24 years on the historical faculty of Oles Honchar DNU scientific military-historical direction on research of the military art of the Ukrainian Cossacks for the first 150 years of his existence (the end of the 15th – the middle of the 17th centuries).
