MVS and Static Alignment of Transtibial Protheses

The most used rehabilitation methods for people with amputation is the prosthesis. A transtibial prosthesis is an artificial limb that replaces a leg missing below the knee. To achieve the proper fit between the prosthesis and the person, the alignment of the prosthesis is performed, this will allow the amputee subject to have stability, comfort, adequate distribution of forces and moments, ipsi and contralateral equality, among others. Static alignment tends to be subjective, it is performed in an observational manner by experts in the field. The present investigation shows a proposal to perform the static alignment in an objective way, based on the distribution of pressure on the plantar surface and the location of the Pressure Center COP). With the use of machine learning systems, such as
the vector support machine (SVM), and the named biomechanical variables, a computational tool was generated
that shows if there is alignment of the prosthesis. A yield
close to 100% was obtained with the proposed model.
It is verified that with the use of technological resources
in the area of rehabilitation of amputees can perform
objectively the static alignment of transtibial prostheses.
