The aim of this article is to propose a multiagent model
which incorporates context awareness characteristics in order to support collaborative learning activities into
virtual learning environments, by using Ontologies and
Awareness Services. The characteristics related to contextual monitoring, group interaction, and the alerts,
offered by the model allow students and teachers to be
aware about the learning situation and the progress of
collaborative activities proposed., ontologies are used to model the different students learning styles, as well as the strengths and weaknesses exhibited by a specific group. The Awareness Services built are used to monitoring collaborative processes such as group participation, learning activity progress, shared agendas, among others. Based on the model proposed, a prototype was implemented and validated through a case of study. Considering the obtained results by using each of the technologies proposed to support collaborative learning processes we can conclude the effectiveness of the model.
