To aid in the decision-making process, recommender systems use the available data on the items themselves. Personalized recommender systems subsequently use this input data, and convert it to an output in the form of ordered lists or scores of items in which a user might be interested. These lists or scores are the final result the user will be presented with, and their goal is to assist the user in the decision-making process. The application of recommender systems outlined was just a small introduction to the possibilities of the extension. Recommender systems became essential in an information- and decision-overloaded world. They changed the way users make decisions, and helped their creators to increase revenue at the same time.

The aim of this paper is to use the network and internet and also to apply the content based image retrieval techniques to provide new services for tourism industry. The assumption is a tourist faces an interesting subject; he or she can take an image of subject by a handheld device and send it to the server as query image of CBIR. In the server, images similar to the query are retrieved and results are returned to the handheld device to be shown on a web browser. Then, the tourist can access the useful information about the subject by clicking on one of the retrieved images. For this purpose, a tourism database is created. Then several particular content-based image retrieval techniques are selected and applied to the database. Among these techniques, ‘Edge Histogram Descriptor (EHD)’ and ‘Color layout descriptor (CLD)’ algorithms have better retrieval performances than the others. By combining and modification of these two methods, a new CBIR algorithm is proposed for this application. Simulation results show a high retrieval performance for the proposed algorithm.

In this paper, we are concerned with security for Mobile Ad-hoc Networks (MANETs) using threshold cryptography. When we are applying cryptography to MANETs, key management schemes must provide the cryptographic keys in a secure manner and storing the secret information within the nodes, thwarting the activities of malicious nodes inside a network and is how to distribute the role of the trusted authority among the nodes. Mobile ad hoc networks (MANETs) represent complex distributed systems that comprise wireless mobile nodes that can freely and dynamically self-organize into arbitrary and temporary, ad-hoc network topologies. Secret Sharing Scheme is a method which distributes shares of a secret to a set of participants in such a way that only authorized subset of participants can uniquely reconstruct the secret and an unauthorized subset can get no information about the secret. In this paper we present a new multilevel secret sharing scheme by extending the Shamir’s to the case that the global threshold is strictly greater than the sum of the compartment thresholds and we indicate how to use the threshold secret sharing schemes based on polynomial interpolation. These schemes are based on one-way functions (Discrete Logarithm) which are computationally perfect. In the first scheme the number of public shares grows exponentially with the number of participants. To overcome this disadvantage we proposed two efficient schemes in which the number of public shares ate linearly proportional to the number of participants. Both these schemes are similar except that in the third scheme the identities of the participants are also hidden. In this we also addressed the problem of malicious shareholders that aim to corrupt a secret sharing scheme. To prevent such a threat, legitimate shareholders must detect any modification of shares that has not been issued by a node responsible for the sharing of secret S.

Payment transactions initiated through a mobile device are growing and security concerns must be addressed. People coming from payment card industry often talk passionately about porting ISO 9564 PIN standard based authentication in open-loop card payment to closed-loop mobile financial transactions and certification of closed-loop payment product or solution against this standard. In reality, so far this standard has not been adopted in closed-loop mobile payment authentication and applicability of this ISO standard must be studied carefully before adoption. The authors do a critical analysis of the applicability of this ISO specification and make categorical statement about relevance of compliance to closed-loop mobile payment. Security requirements for authentication in closed-loop mobile payment systems are not standardised through ISO 9564 standard, Common Criteria [3], etc. Since closed-loop mobile payment is a relatively new field, the authors make a case for Common Criteria Recognition Agreement (CCRA) or other standards organization to push for publication of a mobile device-agnostic Protection Profile or standard for it, incorporating the suggested authentication approaches.
