Psychosomatic disorder is condition in which psychological stresses adversely affect physiological (somatic) functioning to the point of distress. They can cause disruptions in daily functioning, relationships, work, school, and other important domains. With appropriate diagnosis and treatment, however, people can find relief from their symptoms and discover ways to cope effectively. The MEDLINE/PubMed database was searched using certain combinations of keywords related to the topic. The search revealed that medical and dental practitioners are concerned with the emotional and psychological state of the patient, for it is an essential component of treatment and the success of the treatment often depends on the emotional state of the patient. In the present paper, various psychosomatic disorders, their classification, diagnosis and management has been discussed.

Cancer is a highly variable disease with multiple heterogeneous genetic and epigenetic changes. Functional studies are essential to understand the complexity and polymorphisms of cancer. Tissue microarray (TMAs) is a powerful new technology designed to assess the expansion of proteins or genes across large sets of tissue specimens assembled on a single glass microscope slide, efficiently and economically. In this review, we are highlighting the different aspects of technology such as contribution of TMA, advantages, disadvantages and utilization of technique in the diagnosis of oral cancer.

Introduction: Missing teeth which is one of the main reasons for dental visitation affect individuals in various ways. While some individuals are unaffected by having a missing tooth, others have reduced self-confidence, become anxious and some ultimately become depressed. This study aims to determine the satisfaction of patients as well as their psychosocial wellbeing following single implant therapy. Materials and Methods: This is a longitudinal, interventional clinical study. Subjects were recruited using non-probability sampling methods. Data was collected using self-administered questionnaires distributed to patients at two phases of treatment. Baseline data was collected at the time of treatment planning and at six months following implant placement. Data analysis was done using Statistical package for the social sciences (SPSS) version 20. Results: A total of 42 subjects were recruited into this study comprising equal numbers of males and females. A comparison of the baseline data and data collected at six months revealed that most subjects (n=41, 97.6%) had an overall positive reaction to the treatment. Also, an improvement in self-confidence was observed in 78.6% (n=33) of subjects. Regarding patients’ satisfaction following treatment, 76.2% (n=32) of the subjects were very satisfied with the outcome of the implants. All respondents (n=42, 100%) were however willing to recommend implant therapy for other individuals seeking to replace their missing tooth/teeth. Conclusion: Dental implant therapy is a rehabilitative treatment option that provides remarkable improvement in patients’ psychosocial wellbeing and the overall patient satisfaction with the treatment is high.

Erythema multiforme is an uncommon, immune-mediated, acute mucocutaneous condition affecting the skin and mucous membranes. It has various etiological factors, including Herpes Simplex virus, medications, auto-immune diseases and malignancies, but the most common cause is infection by Herpes Simplex virus. The characteristic feature is the presence of “target lesions”. Diagnosis is made by clinical signs and symptoms, along with laboratory tests and histopathological examination when required. It should be differentiated from Urticaria, Stevens-Johnson syndrome, toxic epidermal necrolysis, fixed drug eruptions and other vesiculobullous diseases like Pemphigus. Treatment includes symptomatic or supportive care along with corticosteroids, antivirals if needed and hospitalization in extreme cases. In the present case of drug induced Erythema multiforme, the offending drug was immediately stopped and patient was treated with topical and systemic corticosteroids along with symptomatic treatment, leading to immediate and complete resolution of the symptoms.

The purpose of maintaining the roots of one or more natural teeth in the oral cavity is to reduce the rate of ridge resorption, maintaining proprioception and providing alveolar bone support and achieve better stability of the denture with emphasis on psychological aspect of not being completely edentulous. This case report describes the utilization of the endodontically treated remaining natural roots to fabricate an overdenture that provided better retention than a conventional complete denture.

Tooth rotation is displacement of tooth around its long axis. Fixed and removable orthodontics are the conventional methods for management of rotation. But in case of single tooth rotation especially for teeth with single conical root with open apex another option is surgical approach. The procedure is called surgical derotation. It is the repositioning of a rotated tooth in normal alignment along with adjacent tooth in the dental arch, by surgical method. The procedure is simple and gives patient aesthetic result immediately without relapse. This is a case report of successful management of almost 120 degree mesiopalatally rotated maxillary right central incisor with open apex of a 9 year old girl.

Mandibular molars can have an additional root located lingually (the radix entomolaris) or buccally (the radix paramolaris). If present, an awareness and understanding of this unusual root and its root canal morphology can contribute to the successful outcome of root canal treatment. This paper describes case report of mandibular first molar with three roots (one mesial and two distal) and four canals (two in mesial and two in distal root). These case reports show an anatomic variation of internal morphology of the tooth and points out the importance of searching for additional canals.

Due to the increase in the popularity of social media, there is an increase demand of esthetic appeal among adults as well as children. There is no denying that teeth forms an integral part in increasing the overall esthetics of an individual. As the number of patients seeking orthodontic treatment is rising in the recent era the more are their concerns during the whole treatment process. Although orthodontic emergencies cannot be considered as actual emergencies there are only few cases which require immediate attention by an orthodontist and majority of them which can be dealt in an follow up appointment. The following review article shares the knowledge of the common orthodontic problems faced by patients undergoing orthodontic treatment and the management of these emergencies for general dental practitioners.
