Empirical study of the short and long-term impact of the oil booms to economic growth rates

In the article, on the basis of the analysis of relevant data with statistical methods, the short, medium and long-term impact of the sharp increase in hydrocarbon production during short period of economic growth is investigated. The mechanism of the impact of the rapid increase in oil and gas production on economic growth rate depending on the particular oil boom parameters, such as scale, intensity and strength of influence is explained. Author shows as the result of oil boom large GDP base is establish in the country and the relatively low growth rates observed in post-peak period should not be evaluated as manifestations of “resource curse”. In connection with the impact of these effects, formation of weak growth or a reduction of GDP per capita in period of post-peak is not evidence based fact. According to relevant factors and specific terms economic growth in individual countries can be relatively low. Profitability of crop production in Azerbaijan

In the modern world, where food security has become one of the main challenges of society, profitability of agricultural production gains a specific importance. Thus the main objective of this study is to determine the most profitable structure of sown area in Azerbaijan through allocation of the sown area according to requirements of crops and the natural-climatic conditions of the regions. Taking these factors into account the profitability of current structure of sown area in Azerbaijan has been analyzed. The analysis, have been implemented on crop and regional level. This is important, as Azerbaijan has 10 economic regions and natural-climatic conditions of these regions differ from each other. Also, each group of crops requires specific temperature and water resources. In order to gain the main goal, the profit of each group of crops per hectare for the last ten years for each region of the country and the average profit for this period has been calculated. Based on the comparison of results the most profitable crops for each region have been determined. The natural-climatic conditions of the regions and temperature and water requirements of each group of crops have also been analyzed in order to find the evidence based reasons for the profitability of different crops in different regions. And based on the results of this analysis the more profitable structure of sown area for the country have been determined. Detailed calculations, analysis and research taking into account new socio-economic conditions make this study a valuable document and the results of this research can be used to assure the food security of the country, as a background information for policy making in agriculture, regional development programs, specialization of agricultural production in regions and so on. Corporate sustainability reporting practice in an emerging market: A case of listed companies in Nigeria

This paper seeks to explore the trend in sustainability reporting practice in an emerging market. The study involves critical assessment of the current level of sustainability reporting disclosures. To achieve this, content analysis was used on data sourced from the corporate annual reports of selected listed companies quoted in Nigerian Stock Exchange. The analysis identifies the extent to which sustainability reporting has been in line with global best practices in disclosing the three sustainability reporting metrics (environmental, social and governance). Finding revealed that the selected listed companies are more highly disposed to disclosing governance and social information than environmental disclosure. Corporations also attempt to manage stakeholder impressions by self-servingly biasing the language and verbal tone used in their environmental disclosures. The study found that the greatest proportions of location of corporate social and environmental disclosure of the sampled companies are disclosed in the chairman’s statement and directors’ report. From accommodation to hostility and expulsion: changing patterns of nigeria’s reaction to ghanaian migrant workers, 1970-1983.

A critical review of relevant literature, corroborated by oral information, reveals that three major themes may best explain the trend of Nigeria‟s reaction to Ghanaian aliens between 1970 and 1983. These are accommodation, hostility and expulsion. Interrogating these themes, this paper examines the various factors that instigated the trooping of Ghanaian migrants in their droves to Nigeria during the period of study. It further examines the factors that prompted Nigeria to accommodate such a large influx of alien population during the period. The paper is further committed to an in-depth analysis of the genesis of hostility in Nigeria-Ghana relations beginning from the tail end of 1981 to late 1982 and; the eventual expulsion of Ghanaian migrant workers by the Nigerian Government in January 1983. The study employed the historical method of research and analysis. Data was generated through library research, oral interviews and participant observation method. Data obtained was critically analysed using a qualitative technique. It is expected that this paper will broaden our understanding of the volatile nature of relations between the two former British dependencies in contemporary times. The problems of increasing pomegranate production in Azerbaijan

Soil and climatic conditions of Azerbaijan allow cultivation of apples, pears, grapes, pomegranate, plum, quince, peach, apricot, cherry and other fruits. The issues of increasing the production of pomegranate in country is researched in this article. In 2014, 153423 tons of pomegranate was produced in Azerbaijan. This is 2 times more compared to 2000. The importance of increase the production pomegranate is put forward by the author and proposals related to the solution of problems in this area are prepared.
